Hyundai Equus. Thoughts.

So lately Hyundai has been pullin gout all the stops to go above and beyond expectations in the market. Their latest model that came out is the Equus.

Correct me if im wrong please.  Starting at $58,000 for the standard and the ultimate package a little shy of $70,000.  But with all the bells and whistles is the price justified?

Not sure on the price but if I could I would definately grab one.

I think Hyundai is starting to do it now.

Thoughts?

nice car, but even looking at photos it seems like a lot of corners were cut to get to that price point. if you think about it, materials and labor (especially materials) cost similarly across the globe in most industrialized countries and hyundai is as efficient as every other automaker. so how is hyundai able to make a car that wants to compete at that level at a price that undercuts every other manufacturer by 10k (at least)? granted, a portion of it is marketing. but that gets you thinking, how much of it is cost cutting? how much of it is in paying less attention to the details?

my 600h already has cost cutting measures in place (plastic everywhere and so on) but the implementation of small features is really wonderful. things like how the windows decelerate as they get to the end of travel, the tactility of buttons and the turn signal stalk (especially the turn signal stalk -- it's fucking impressive how high quality that thing feels. no rattles, no clunking, just buttery smooth travel and ergonomic design) are all amazing. i'd imagine that hyundai had to cut corners on things like that. even press photos of the interior show that some of the stuff inside is lower grade, especially things like the gauge cluster and interior plastics -- that stuff just looks cheap.

i think a few auto magazines summed it up best: for someone coming from a genesis or 3 series, it'll be awesome, but for people who were looking at LSes, 7ers, and the S class, the equus falls flat.

then again, take this with a grain of salt -- i haven't driven one, but i wouldn't mind taking a look at one in the coming weeks.

Genesis maybe Equus no. Too much other options out there that are better for the price. Hyundai has been heading in the right direction though

70k is used low mileage amg with factor warranty money, and then some. i don't see this car doing particularly well in north america and europe.

I'll admit the price is rediculous but for a company that has been the underdog and frowned on for many years. they definately have something going on. I love the back seat aswell. first class reclining is pretty neat, cooler in the back, air and heated seats,steering wheel.  for hyundai its really is a step up but the price is not exactly reasonable for the cuts. but overall the Equus has some definate appeal to it IMO.  if the price wasnt so high i would seriously look into one as a family car after i get my degree.

however, since im still in college, still searching for a LS400 or Q45.    (^.^)

actually, if you're willing to get a car with like 40k miles, you can pick one up for like 60 OTD

it really is a nice car though, the 600. just not my particular flavor, if you know what i mean. :biggthumpup:

i drove right next to a white one on the 101 near k town the other day. i have to say it did look really good. just hate the fact they completely copied the exhaust styling cue from the ls460. seeing it in person for the first time, its a beefy hyundai. the lines where really nice. if the price was lower i think i would have really considered it over the ls.

I think the car is somewhat mpressive. Exterior has too much influence from other models though, feels/looks cheap. It would be a hard choice if I had to pick the Ultimate vs a base LS460 and still save 5k if I went with the hyundai so I can see this selling fairly well with execs that may not care for labels.  Personally I would also go the cpo route since I will probably never buy a brand new car anyways. I thought this was pretty cool:

i'd rather have a genesis.
