Air ride questions
So im putting together my mod list for my recent purchase of a 03 subaru legacy wagon and air ride comes into play. However for the sake of space and keeping a clean interior, A 3 and 5 gallon air tank is out of the question. Iv seen on other forums, sites, but all run pretty large tank setups in their trunk.
Are there any people running tankless? or run multiple .5 or 1 gallon tanks hidden around the car? What about compressor performance? if i run a tankless setup should I go for a more powerful compressor to make up for the speed difference or lack of without a tank?

people have talked about tankless, but i haven't actually seen one in action. best bet would be a pancake tank and hide it in the spare well. if i were you, i'd just run a 5 gallon outside the car.

some guys i know went tank less.. but they have one comp for each wheel or if you do front back only 2 comps for front and 2 comp for back.. lift pretty fast or oyu can just go 4 comps front and back . its pretty sick!

Wow i hadn't even thought about a pancake tank. Thanks thats definitely a viable option.

If i ran tankless, i think running 2 compressors front and rear would be the most i would go. I could sacrifice some inflation speed, i just don't want to wait +8 seconds to get the bags up. This would be more of a comfort set up than anything.
I ran static on my 240sx for a long time and i had to map out my routs to avoid dips and speed bumps. Now the city decided to put speed bumps in my neighborhood which aren't the most pleasant design for a lowerd car. they aren't high, they are long.
If i did run multiple compressors, what kind of power am i looking at? 1CFM?

my plan was to run a small tank (.5-1 gal), but that was for cups which require less air.
not a fan of the tankless idea, for the simple fact that when (not if) you have a compressor issue you will be grounded. with a tank you at least have a chance of raising the car to get where you need to go.

Ya, I remember you talking about the small tank idea. That would suit the OP's needs. Especially if it fit in the engine bay as well.

you could do multiple 1 gallon tanks per corner, but you'd have to have a compressor for each tank and each one would be its own "system", with no connection to each other, as it were.

hmm, id hate to overwork the compressors and run into issues that could cripple the cars drivability. So im starting to rule out a tankless set up. But the question remains where and how could i mount tanks that wont be so obvious like most 5 gal tanks. Looking online for tank options, i see that a 3 gal 15x6.5 pancake air tank in the spare tire well would be the best option. Anyone seen any other setups that are "hidden" or "tucked" away.

pancake, 3 gal, and 5 gallon slim are easiest to hide in a trunk/hatch area.
a multiple smaller tank setup could work as well but i still think it's best to have 2 compressors on each air circuit, just in case one cooks. that could turn into a lot of compressors quickly.
the difference with cups (this is not an advertisment, just explaining why the set up previously mentioned isn't ideal) is that even if the compressor failed you're only suck at ride height.

I never said i didn't want to run tanks, I said i didn't want to run a large tank that sat in the trunk bed of my wagon. I did the research on the cups/air piston set up and i really like what im seeing. I feel as though there are more fail-safes to a cups setup in case of damage or failure. Which appease me greatly. I did fail in trying to find the appropriate air requirements for a 4 cup set up. You mentioned they require less air to operate?

i don't know the exact volumes but i would estimate cups hold 1/3-1/4 as much air. the company i deal with still uses a 5 gallon aluminum tank on a preassembled plate for their 4 wheel set up, and strongly prefers that you don't alter it, but there are multiple options.
