hard time accelerating- q45
so recently ive been noticing that my car doesnt accelerate like it used to... i never really beat on the car but whenever i accelerate and goose the pedal a little bit lately, the car seems to shudder and the car doesnt want to go past 2k rpms....
the other day ago, i accelerated and the car started shaking when it got a little past 2k rpms and the check engine light started flashing; the dam thing misfired! has this happened to anyone before? ive heard so many different things the problem could possibly be: spark plugs, the coils, the injectors, i dont even know at this point, getting it checked out by my mechanic soon, but from a q owner to another here, can anyone tell me anything about this mishap?!
thanks,
nick

Anytime a CEL flashes, its misfiring. First things first. Get the codes from the CEL. Usually shops check it free now-a-days but be very wary as the economy has made many shops shady as hell. How many miles do you have on the car (year/make/model)? Hows your transmission fluid? Have you done any work on the car recently just before this occurred? Also how long as your CEL light been on?
Next thing is once you get this CEL code(s), please do not always trust what you see on the forums. There are a bunch of wanna-be mechanics who experiment and you may end up spending more than you should. I've had many clients who do this to save money and end up getting the wrong diagnosis. However, if you're going to read the forums, make sure the person who is speaking is qualified to speak in that matter.
Feel free to PM once you have the codes or if you have any questions.

Just take it to a shop that knows those q v8 ins and outs... Just be careful of those shops that just throw parts at it.. If its a 95 and under car, its a lil tricky to pull code from those ecu..if obd2.. It should pin point easier if they know how to read datas.. most likely injectors or maf sensor tho from ur problems u discribed..

this happened to my 97 q45 about a month after i got it. For me i went to a local shop and got it scanned for free saying i might get the work done here but after getting the codes, which where knock sensors and missfire in #8 cylinder, i went to my trust worthy mechanic. After fixing that car ran back to normal. hope this helps

yea my cars a 97, got the codes checked: theres the knock sensor, misfire on cylinder 2, and the check engine lights been on for a while but only for an o2 sensor, the whole misfire thing happend roughly 4 days ago. i also just got a new starter for it, and theres times when it takes a full second or two to start, even tho i just got a new starter, so i feel it might b something with the spark plugs....

You should be fine if they replace both knock sensors and change spark plugs and repace #2 ignition coil. Also make sure there is no oil leaking in any of the cylinders because it can cause missfires. (happened to me valve covers were leaking but fixed now). Also sorry to break the bad news but once one coil goes out they will eventually all start going out. I got a good deal a while back and i bought all 8 ignition coils just incase it starts misfiring again which it will fursure no doubt. 159,000 miles on mine

I have 8 used in decent shape, there is also a chance it is the valve cover gasket leaking oil in.
That being said I had a long talk with 2 master techs at Infiniti about this and they both say that they have chased this problem on a few Q's with no luck. It is believed to be partially influenced by the tune of the ECU but there is no proof of this. G/L

yeah, i might just need to get the ecu reset, and my valve cover gaskets ARE leaking oil. think thats the problem, cus i took it to my mechanic, and everything seems to be in good shape, spark plugs, coils, etc. so later this week, the q's goin to get new gaskets =)

I KNEW IT. Your gaskets caused this..
From your ill informed question it was hard to pinpoint a direct diagnosis over the internet but I always knew it was your gaskets...
Next time give us a lot more information on where/how and what's exactly happening to your car so maybe just maybe we can help out even tho reading a forum text online is nothing compared to a personal car check-up.
good luck.

just fyi, you dont fix that simple 02 sensor you will eventually destroy your catalytic coverter.then you will have a pretty price tag to pay haha

I'm glad I read this. I just recently picked up a 97 Q that I have noticed is kinda sluggish when accelerating from a dead stop. Thx for the info!
