I got my new camera...a present to myself

Well I put my car buildup to the side and decided to focus a little more on my other hobby (photography). Hopefully will get good enough to take pictures of cars professionaly.

Pics came out nice. That 3rd pic would've been a killer backdrop for a VIP car photo op.

dang everybody is into photography nowadays.  Let me ask you all something though, what makes a good photographer?  Can't I buy an expensive camera that takes very clear pictures, like Dark Anghell's, and go around town taking random shots of things and consider myself a great photographer?

Dark: great pictures!  how much was your camera?  also was any of that touched up or was it all natural?

The first picture was cropped (made smaller), the second one I chaged the levels around alittle (I still can't get the right white balance w/ the camera) and for the last picture was straightened out.

I have Canon Rebel XT with UV filter and on the last 2 pics I was testing out the new filter I got (polariser), it enables me to either make reflections stand out more or decrease them. So far I have spent $700 on this whole setup. Once i start changing lenses, it's going to cost me even more.

Getting into photography...you can take some great shots with a point and shoot camera that costs $200. Great photographs are not just about how clear they are, it's about whats in the picture. So you need to have an eye for things that might be interesting to shoot. Yesterday I think I took about 30 shots and I only love 1 of them (number 2). So I would suggest just going out there and start shooting things and get peoples feedback. I am planning on reading a few books and possibly taking a class on photography to get better. 


As for pics of the car...the time when I was shooting them was horrible, all of them are either too dark in places or have reflections from the sun. I will go to the place across the street tomorrow and take some shots of the car.

Car photography is way different from everything else. The best places to take pics of the car are actually in areas where not much is going on...this way you are not distracting the image of the car with an interesting background. Make the background very boring so that people automatically pay attention to the car and not to whats going on around it. 
In my opinion, backgound can have some intersting elements in it, but the car should still stand out. So no pictures of a black car against a dark background.

Nice shots, they were resized and compressed quite a bit though right?
That green tree is distracting in the bottom picture, but everything to the left of it looks really really nice!

The images were resized down to roughly 800x600, and were taken on the lowest quality setting. Tomorrow I will try the high quality and RAW settings on the camera.

The tree in the last picture is part of "framing" where you can shoot through an open door or a window thus creating a frame. In this case I used a tree...to bad the green tree on the other side does not stand out as much.
