Advice on tail lights y33

Does anyone know the process of customizing my tails like these so the outer part(red) is black and the tails look like they are semi tinted? Any help or advice on how i should go at it would help. I have extra tails so im gonna experiment on them.

one way is to go to a hobby store and buy some Model Masters custom spray
(transparent black window tint) used to tint model windows.......a couple of coats should give desired effect

Don't use nightshade.
Go to your paint guy and show him the pic, tell him you want a reduced black feathered around the edges or a base clear with black in it.

I use to do this when I worked for the custom shop I was at. Nightshade looks like shit, base clear looks better than the paint on your car haha.

Other cool shit to do if you start getting pro is mix a little bit of candy the same colour as your car and top coat them with that. (unless your car is black... cuz then it's redundant) adds a pretty cool effect.

Spraygun automotive clear coat tinted with black or candy as mentioned below Aerosol spraycans wont provide the same finish and will most likely fade in the sun and leave your tails dull looking

i see, anyone know of any good affordable spray guns then?
edit: i have access to a very large air compressor so no need to worry about that part. Or if anyone knows any good spray gun turbine systems that are under $300 would be nice so i can have one at home.

i wouldn't be surprised if they painted behind the lens. i did this way back and tinting the reflectors instead of tinting the lens gives off a similar effect. looks like they may have painted the inside of the housing black.

i think so too. i think he took the lens off and painted it from the inside. lasts longer and no dull look
