Dippin wood

I am making this thread since this section lacks a lot of interior stuff. Seems like a lot more people do exterior and suspension stuff so those sections are more popular. Apparently people think their stock interior is like bomb as hell lol 

But list up those places where you get your wood trim dipped at. Post up before and after. Also what are the prices you pay. Is it by square foot, per piece ect. I am looking to do this asap. Is diptec the only place?

Ever look into that 3M DiNoc stuff? They have a ton of patterns. Not water transfer, just vinyl.

most companies charge by the square inch and it isn't cheap. a typical four door interior runs $1k+. price will vary based on area, prep needed, and amount of disassembly involved.
 
i am now offering this service. i got a couple projects that will be getting new finishes, but they're on the back burner for now.

Stock interior the bomb?? Nah sun, hopefully I'll be pulling my shit out this winter and get a full custom interior done..Im trying to touch all parts of my ride,  not just exterior

I think anything's stock is wack... ima trademark that, lol... nah but seriously tho, I feel the same way you feel about ppls rides, they do the outside and boom they're done, dont get me wrong some dudes in here got some sick shit going on but only on the exterior and the interior is all OEM, that's not a good look... My M45 came with aluminum trim and I wanted wood so long story short I swapped with this dude, but I'm already bored of the wood so Ima paint it jet black... I know I'm not revolutionizing anything doing that but I got another trick up my sleeve that i'll post a pic up once I do it, (if my budget allows) that hasnt been done (or I havent seen) on a Y50 M. But really tho stock is wack ppl...

My basic black glove box door matched to the Italvolanti steering wheel. Even the gold undertones were achieved...

gaurenteed match over here. you know i wouldn't give you anything less than almost perfect, lol. i can have sample pieces done for serious customers (i.e. send everything you want and we match it, get the ok, and finish the job).

typical 4 door luxury car is 1k-1.5k to redo everything.

Dipping is extremely inexpensive material wise but the time involved can be intensive. There is a lot of prep work, buffing, sanding ect.. involved.  There is a place locally that quoted me $2,400 for the 12 little pieces of woodgrain in mya w220. The actual cost comes from the fact you gotta buy rolls, and most places are under contract not to sell film to individuals.

I'm curious on how scratch resistant these are and how well it takes sunlight before fading.

I figure they're as scratch resistant as the clear coat they put on them.

Being that you can have Matte or gloss clear coat there's a multitude of things you can do with this stuff =)

^ what he said. clear coat is automotive grade. same scratch and uv resistance as the rest of your car.

When I got my stuff done about 3 years ago. it was approximately $0.40 per square inch. Size is everything I guess (no homo)...

I wish I could give the definitive answer on scratch resistance and sunfade, but I can say that I live in Az, that I have 35% all around, and that mine has held up perfectly....

If you use the right clear with UV protection then you are fine.  There are many, many products other then cars that this stuff is used for.   If it holds up on a combat rifle in the desert it can handle a ride in the car :biggthumpup:

I would put a resin over it for that added depth

There is still stuff for table tops that levels perfectly with no need to sanding if you use flood coats.  It lays like a 1/4" thick.  They sell it at home depot.  Dries completely clear no bubbles and has UV shit in it.

Source did my interior wood pieces as well as other parts like vents, gauge bezel, center console, etc...was black to match exterior then dipped it to black wood. After seeing wringo's car on CL, it inspired me to do black wood as well.  Also got some engine pieces and valve cover done in carbon fiber. Turned out good and great prices!! I'd recommend Wells and Ryan to those looking to get hydrographics

I originally wanted to get black marble but there were some issues with the film. Not bc of source but who they got the film from. Ill post pics when I can...just got the car back recently.

That's true. Any one out there that could point me in the right direction in finding a dealer for the film? I've been searching for a while but nothing concrete has come up yet... If not willing to discuss this in public please pm me instead :biggthumpup:

Are you coming to springfest next weekend with nc ISO? If so I'll introduce you to the owners of source hydrographics to get your interior done. If not we can discuss it during the ISO/IA meet in NC if you'll be there. 

FYI price is no where near $2400 for interior package.

My dip partner ballparked most luxury car interiors from $1-1.5K.

there is a shop maybe 30 miles from me that seems to do some legit work....i'll pay them a visit one day to get a quote worked up for my stuff.

Yeah boi, found a couple different retailers in Germany who sell the film and activators to anybody :runcoold:

Now just need to figure out what patterns to order, hmmm so much choices :giggity:

These look pretty good!  I've been researching how to work with veneers and running into issues learning how to wrap them.  I may go this route instead.

Take some close detail shots and what are you using as a final coat?

No just a,480 under the tank..once I get time the tank will be dipped also..I didn't have room for it anyother place in the car..hatch area is full of audio, didn't want it under the car, so it went there..

Close up of the grain..this is not a wrap sticker..its the same process that is used to do stock oem wood grain in cars..we have affordable prices. We are a new company and tryin to make a good name for ourselves..

any heat issues yet with the compressor?

None.. I drove it from stlouis to Pensacola Florida no problems and to Atlanta and back and summer heat in Florida. No issues.

there's only so much room for adjustment. this process involves prepping the surface, priming, base coat, the actual water transfer, and clear coat. it's basically a paint job with an extra step. i think a lot of cats getting it on the low are doing so because more people are offering the service and trying to get their name out.

Primer paint and clear aren't cheap...
