new UCF20 owner with factory air suspension help!!
Hey guys Ive tried researching on here and CL but i could come up with a firm answer. So i bought a 97 ls400 yesterday I didn't realise I had purchased one with factory air suspension until i brought it home!!:pat: I had already planned on purcharsing some megan lp coilovers. The car was owned by a older man who rarely drove the car and was always dealer maintained and he had a ton of documents on it so i did find out that he had the air struts replaced by Lexus 3 years ago and since then they have only been driven 5k . Now i'm debating on purchasing a r-spec datasystem, My concerns are how reliable will this be? I dont wanna ruin my air struts real fast this will be daily driven and i want a reliable car. Also will i be able to drive low with it or is this just gonna be good to park and sit low? Lastly what all do you guys recommend to have done if i do get the datasystem controller? ...sorry for all the noob questions

You should probably thinking about how low your gonna be driving and if you need to be able to air up as opposed to staying slammed all the time with the coilovers. But you figure that the strut in the assembly is made to travel at stock height...only a matter of time before the strut blows inside from riding low. You can always go with coilovers and kept those factory air struts if you need to sell the car or decide that you wanna go stock.

As far as ride height i want to be able to ride with a moderate drop and get rid of the wheel/ fender gap. Going to coilovers may be the way too go. Would there be any difficulty from switching from air to coilovers? I was kinda liking the idea to be able to raise my car to go over speed bumps and such.

This has been covered on CL a bit...but I believe that there is a fuse for the compressor that needs to be removed and just disconnect the air lines. Other than that it should be a straight forward strut/spring assembly removal and coilover install. Disconnect the upper ball joint. Some people remove the sway bar which is a complete waste.
