last issue i bought was '09. i'm not paying $20+ for a mag with one or two cars i like (in a good issue). if it was like cali where you could scoop em up for <$10 i wouldn't mind but getting 'em mailed isn't worth it. sometimes i wonder what i'm missing out on but the coverage from japan shows eases my mind; a bunch of tacky over done cars and a couple simple cars i like that wouldn't get in a mag anyway.

ive only picked up on issue about 9 months ago...had the red artisan spirits celsior on the cover
I pick them up religiously every month, look at them 2 times tops then don't look at them again until I need to reference them :shrug: It's my fix that I gotta have every month lol

Yeah that ish is getting redic all those Damn vents. My old VIP mags are the shizznit. Clean and simple street cars. Let time I bought a VIP mag was prob 08
My mind gets overwhelmed looking at all them cars..
I like to see the style evolve. It keeps things fresh and interesting. Otherwise it would get boring and dull. But to each his own. If you like a previous era of the style then that's fine. No one is saying you have to like it or make your car look like theirs. I hunk some guys take it too far but then there are some with real style and flow and make things work effortlessly. Some of them really pull it off well, some terribly. I think most of us can tell which is which..
^^yeah, but moat of it seems like its going backwards, just like speedaddict is saying
thats true that there are guys with 'the eye', if you will, but most of these cats just doing stuff to one up each other. it's like their version of our number chasers, people just doing stupid ridiculous stuff just because the other guy hasn't. there's a difference between good uniqueness and bad uniqueness.
What it boils down to is neat and clean just does not intrest people anymore, it's been done to death and there are only so many ways you can do it. But to get mag coverage these days you have to do stuff just to do stuff. If this car has X done to Y part on the car and the other one does not, then they are going to with the one with more work done to it. Even if it is not done for asthetic purposes, they will do it just to say it is done. But then again we have to remember that Japan is a diffrent country. Their ideals and idiology will never match ours, no matter how hard we try to immitate.
you can call it evolving, I'll call it back to the future. We were doing ugly conversions on imports back in the days. Now we laugh at them cruising down the streets. Some of the conversions were really clean and looked like they belonged, most were just to do it and not thought out....kinda like the New evolving VIP scene in Japan.
i think this is an evolution of the new AMGs that are coming out -- s65s have crazy misplaced vents on the front bumper. they're just taking it to the next level lulz

Mine isn't built yet...so its forever in progress.
I don't think its back to the future, the vents used back in the days were like Z3 vents lol. Yeah the look is pretty wild. But its cool to see.
we also used nsx vents as well as custom vents...

There are few good clean builds... some are abit tacky... It's not for everyone I guess. I've never been to Japan but from what I've been told the Japanese move and change things quickly. Like a fad. Right now I'm seeing a huge trend in doing different color combos on rims and textures as well as vents. Here in the states things move abit slower.... VIP here is a very niche market... very small i think. Slowly gaining momentum...but do we want it too? Don't you kind of like the attention you guys are getting? You see hondas and 240sx etc all day long but bid body VIP cars? It's a sight to see...just beautiful ex: When I was ordering my Weds my shop was trying to push me to get the Elaborar rims which were the news Kranze line that came out. I still had my heart set on LXZ but they were like why? Spending that much you should get the newer style. They were telling me the LXZ is old now... Like everyone moved on to skinny jeans and I'm still here wearing cross colors..
You can open up any vip magazine from any year and see some whack cars in there (usually not full featured cars but even then once in a while they are). Its what you choose to focus on. Sure some go over the top because the style currently in Japan is much more challenging than it has ever been IMO. Some people over there think they get it but they just fall short while others nail it down. That is what keeps these guys going, the challenge. If you understand where to look, none of what is going on should be a surprise. When the Germans start going out of tradition with louder cars from the factory as well as the direction of their aftermarket tuners, it trickles over.

i wouldnt rock a diffuser that transformerish, but aside from the tetris vents on the sides, the bumper isnt that bad. maybe with out the whole gem or tail light or whatever the hell it is in a polygon in the middle of the diffuser, it would have less of a power ranger megazord feel and look nice
It's what happened when they make their own instead of grafting it from a make that had 20 desgners and 700 million to develop

I feel you can always look at any car scene and find ones that are just over done or not thought out fully but when a build is done right I can appreciate it no matter what scene it's in. Some of those are to much for me eg. The one with double stacked dual tips in each side to much for me but it's not my car
