differential options for a g50?

i hate vlsd's and want the predictability of a 2-way differential. i have found inconclusive information about using a tomei z32 tt 2-way in the r200v. i'm wondering if i'd be better off swapping in an r200 with a nismo 2-way. any input you may have would be very helpful.

thanks,
max

best bet is to start with an r32 gt-r differential (4.10 clutch type lsd) since it is a direct fit (you need to trim the hicas tabs) . there was discussion on nico about other options long ago, such as swapping z32 internals into the g50 housing, but when the r32 gt-r info was presented eveyone forgot about that. then when the oem nazis started whining about milage, speedometer, etc. the whole subject was dropped. i have an r32 gt-r in mine but haven't got it running yet.

yeah, i saw the r32 diff in your build thread, but i've been having a difficult time finding one at a reasonable price. i'll probably just end up shimming or welding the stock vlsd and seeing how that goes i guess.

keep an eye on ebay. they should only set you back a couple hundred.

its just an R200 VLSD on the inside like any other. you can swap in any clutch type for any 240sx, N/A Z32 or R32 VLSD

swapping in the entire R32 diff is also a good option

Z32 TTs have R230 VLSDs, as in 230mm ring gear, nothing is compatible there

i'm not going to act like i know a lot about this but from what i read there was some shimming or something you had to do for the z32. this is outside of my experience so i could very possibly be wrong but it's worth researching unless someone knows 100% for sure (as in has done it).

semi-related... if all r200 internals are the same would that mean i could swap my gt-r guts into the q housing?

but if i put a 240sx diff in wouldn't i need to swap 29 spline input shafts with 6-bolt flanges as well since the q input shafts are 30 spline and larger diameter?

Wouldn't the entire Z32 NA pumpkin just bolt up? Although I haven't done it, I'm almost positive it would. It has the correct 5 bolt flanges to bolt up to G50 Axles, and mounting points should be the same as well.

g50 is 6 bolt. i believe the z32 are direct bolt in for y33.
