stretching tires
so i work at goodyear, and today there was a drift session across the street from my work. a truck pulls up and unloads some rims, the guys was drifting and the bead popped off the rim... at first i only saw the front side of the rim and it looked normal, then i see the back side and see that the bead of the tire is about 4" from the edge of the rim... i looked at the tire size and it was 235/40/18. i talked to the owner and he said they were 18x11 or 18x12. so i air it up and holly crap was it stretched... they were some veilside rims... i snapped some pics, ill try to get them uploaded asap.
i thought stretching tires would be super hard. i never side a super stretch like that, just some mild stretches, 20's/22's/24's with low pros. i guess when my rims come in, ill have 2 sets of tires...

theres no reason to go lower on a 9 dood
215 is as small as id go period
but if u wanted to u could
try a 215/40 and maybe a different tire for a different stretch

I had 205/40 on 17x9 -15 on stock fenders on S14 240sx... the stretch was so extreme I actually bent a rim daily driving the thing haha I think what did it was the small lip on the highway off ramp by my house... always gives the car a nice jolt when I went over it, but one time hit it a little bit faster than normal and began loosing air in one of the front tires slowly haha
long story short: 215/40 is the lowest I'd go on a 9" wheel

LoL, i had 215/35s on my 18x9s in the front of my Cedric... Did over 2000kms (1200miles) in them before swapping for 225/40s. Only reason i swapped was to get additional chassis clearance.... The 215/35 was stretched, but didnt seem that extreme. That was with a fatty tyre though - 225/40 was enough for the 10J rears...
My experience seems to suggest that going down a profile size has the same effect as going down a width size, when it comes to stretch...
Anyway, I'm guessing he is considering the downsize due to clearance issues...

only reason I rolled 205/40 was because I went to a Mexican tire shop down here in Texas and asked for a 'cheap pair of 17's' so I could drive the car w/ them on it back to my hometown for some family thing... the guy was like, ok and 15 minutes later rolled them out w/ string bean crazy stretch... I was like... haha ok
