DIY: WIDE BODY Ya betta aks somebody

Ok here is the wide body DIY, I had the pix on a hard drive I need to clean so here it is first. Actually I needed the space for the interior DIY so forget the poll lets get started.
 
 
This is the 350 Z I did in Saudi you can do this on any car, I made a mold for the body parts we will be selling so what you see here can be used or you can mold your parts and remove what you did and mold in your panels.
 
The yadda yadda about leaving foam in is somewhat true. It will soak up moister IF it has a path. If you encase it in FG like a surf board you shouldnt have any problems. ITS UP TO YOU.
 
Sorry for the crappy first pix. Someone had set the camera to tile and well these had to be cropped out of them.
 
So lets start
 
As you have seen before I use Tin foil to build on look for that how to to figure it out its on here. What I did next was lay down some 600# cloth and let it dry. One coat is plenty this is your back side.
 
Next I cut foam blocks to get the distance I wanted I placed them on the entire radius of my project and just glued them on.

Then I had to make them part of the lower FG so I filled them in with BP and then sanded to get my outer edge

From there it was filling the arch in and getting the desired shape of the fender. I also had to mold this shape into the side step and the rear bumper

So now you can see how it fills in so next I make sure it is exact on both sides.  Now I didnt have a lot of tools at the time so I did the Egyptian trick and used a ruler and a compass and drew lines and measured cross points on both sides to get the parts exact then I layed on two layers of matt.  This was laid over and behind to make sure the product was encapsulated in FG in case it was to be used as the part.  I was able to pull molds and make parts but wasnt aware when I started.

Ok so then I only need the basic parts to mold into the body so I can keep the the original lines and shape for the mold.  Remember that it would get real thick in the top areas and thats where your finish would be to thick.

Now before you get to this you should decide if you want to cut out the inner panel.  I did and so here is the cut and the fix.  I didnt use a welder I used 3M panel bond.  This is the shit you dont get heat warping and you can fill a big gap if you need to.  What I did was cut the outer out and then folded the inner back into it and then panel bonded them together to make one peice.

Ok so after that stuff had dried I then grind it smooth and then grind back the paint on the body to attach the part.  I also used panel bond for this for 2 reasons.

1 it will adhere to the FG and make it stronger than just FGing it to the panel and keep it from cracking out in the laminated area

2 it will also prevent any rust all this in one move.  I put the panel bond on then lay it out flat with a squeegy and do the same on the parts

My parts are then screwed down untill the panel bond dries and then removed and the screw holes are then filled with panel bond to seal them all up.

Se how the metal is further than the panel bond and the panel bond is further than the part.  And also see how thin the area is.  This makes it easy to blend it all togeather

Now all you need to do is prime and paint or continue if you want a mold.  Ill post up the molding later but here is the parts I made and then molded back into the car and some finished pix.

I think that most of us here realise you were not building a VIP car, nor were you building a car to satisfy any of our tastes. What you [i]were[/i] doing was showing us the [b]correct[/b] way for doing a widebody - something we are all grateful for.

Please dont judge the entire forum by a couple of negative responses (or the "is this vip" threads which come up every couple of days), we all appreciate your input and hope that you can stay to offer advice to others who are willing to learn (trust me, there are alot of us).

Btw, very nice writeup... Would come in useful for some of the aussie members who would undoubtedly need to fix up the crappy widebody conversions that are coming from Japan...

What I 'give a shit' about is that I have access to a how-to written by a professional who knows what he is doing, and how to do it right, and he is willing to teach us this.

And nothing is worse than building a mechanically top notch car and sending it out to a fuckin butcher for some crappy bodyline deleting filler and shitty orangepeeled paint. .

DXJP posted here as merely a "HOW-TO" on doing a widebody / fender flare or however you would like to call this.* This wasn't a showcase for "building a 350Z", more just trying to give the members here who would like to learn a "HOW-TO" on doing this kind of work.* It takes a lot of time and effort to create a post like this.

For those bashing the car, to each their own, but at the same time, I am thankful there is someone on this forum that is still trying to reach out to the enthusiasts and help out those who need it.  How many people would take time out of their busy schedule to write a post like this.  

Props to you DXJP for doing what you do.  I can careless what kind of car it is, I am thankful we have members who want to help other members.

Very nice work and that 3M panel bonder is the shit I just found that a few weeks ago and used it on my buddy's 240. May I ask why you left the section of inner and outer fender so thick? Not planning to go low I guess?

You never see anybody with any talent espesialy as talented as me posting secrets on web forums. Have you ever seen Chip Foose explain anything?
 
I only do it to save you all the hassle and to tell a good job from a shit job. I dont need to be here, I dont need to give up secrets, I could talk shit about alot of things however I choose not to. Its inappropriate, and most of all it show a real lack of manners. I know this is the web and I know its full of dick heads and ass hats. 
 
Every one has a opinion I do to like hows this, Aint non of you even close to VIP.... Does that bother you? It would piss me off after all my efforts to build a car were crushed by someone. I have been doing VIP cars since before anyone oitside of japan new what they were, Same as drift. I have been in almost every magazine in japan, Two rides episodes, four or five US mags, the news in 4 major cities, and countless other media outlets so to think I need any thing from a website to advance my carrer is nonsense.
 
I came here and posted how many "How to's" with mostly favorable comments. I also posted that this can be used on any car as I started this thread. Now for those that have to hate hows this I probobly made more money on that one car than you have into your whole car. I get flown around the world for my talents what do you have? Thats right a mouse to hide behind.
 
It really pisses me off what level the of human beings I have to share this earth with have become.
 
If you didnt like the info or the cars that are posted shut up and move on go find a troll forum you can fit in with. Like I said when the talent around here can equal mine all comments are welcome.
 
I built that car in two months with zero help, and a handfull of tools. Almost every piece is one off in one way or another. Did anyone stop to look at the details?

kudos to you and your widebody projekt... i've seen some crappy wide-body work done, sloppy fender flares riveted or molded or body-filler'd onto cars and then people boasting "i have a custom wide-body this or that"... i think it's the skill and craftsmanship (as shown here) that really speak for itself... *hats off to you bro* -- can't wait to see the finished product... DXJP your work looks great I actually had a question for you though. The original foam blocks are still inside the flare correct? Or did you use the original to make a mold for the final prodect?

Like someone else said peel of the haters. And why cant somebody have a VIP, Drifter, and Street Tuner all in one 3 car garage, he never said this is for Drifters, and Tuners only. A  guy at a shop near me does nothing but street cars and he drives a Bentley.

very nice work...much props...couldn't you have cut the radius of the fender, add sheet metal and then stitch weld the stock fender into place...then of course fiberglass the rear bumper and side skirts...
 
There are many 'correct' ways to do a wide body and you made it work for you...

Nice, is the first one a F3?

That front end is 100% post cured, and bagged carbon for the ferrari world roller coaster in Abu Dhabi.  Billed the fastest coaster in the world going 0 to 240km in 400 meters.  Took a month to lay it up and paint it.  Even the spokes in the wheels are carbon.

Yeah f3, i got pics of a F1 ferrari I also did, need to find them.
