What sedan would you pick as a starter VIP platform?

This thread might be dumb and pointless, but I'm really interested in everyone's opinions on what I good platform is to start off on. I've always been a speed junkie and have been building and helped build cars since I was young. I've always have been influenced by what's coming out of Japan. I do see a lot of American showing up these days also. 

I'm a bit partial to Lexus since I've owned 4 SC300's since I started driving. Weirdly enough I might be the only person that thinks the Y34 looks good. Seriously though. I would to know what people think is a good starting point.

any Lexus LS 98 and up.

How would you be the only person who thinks Y34's look good? There are a bunch of them on here, and more new owners pop up all the time.

Anyhow a good starting point would be this: I'll sell you mine as is, w/ everything on it for 18k :giggity:

No disrespect. Just seems like not a lot if people were a fan of it. I mean it was competing against the well loved GS400/430.

The cheapest platforms are the older ones, so UCF10 (90-94 Lexus LS400) or G50 (90-96 Infiniti Q45), but Im not sure if that necessarily makes them 'starter' platforms. What do you mean by starter? I always say the same thing, just go with what you like the best. If you think Y34 stands out and you like those, then go with a Y34. My first attempt was a UCF10, then cycled to a F50, and now rockn a G50 because I like the way the old school president looks. Just follow your heart and you can never go wrong, most important thing is that you enjoy the car

Depending on what "starter" means, I'd go with a 2000-2001 LS430... very reliable cars or so I hear.

I'll second this.  In my opinion, still one of the best looking platform cars around.

My other for a starter car, would be a G50.  Not so sure on parts availability and what not, but from purely an aesthetic and cost perspective, that would be an excellent "starter."  I absolutely love how they look when done correctly.

My starting platform was a ucf20 sometimes I think I rushed into it tho. If I could go back I probably would have gone with a y33 since there is so much aftermarket support the suspension is all swapable with a 240 plus I always see y33 parts come up on the fs section more than other platforms and lastly they can take some aggresive wheels without alot of work.

I agree with Jeebus with 98+ LS if going with Lexus.   Even though it's cheap you have to make sure what kind of maintenance is needed because that will add cost real quick.

To be fair, he asked for a "starter."  I didn't figure that a complicated car, or one that hasn't been thoroughly de-engineered by the aftermarket was a good "starter" car.  I'll stand by my recommendations regardless as I am still totally in love with the UCF 20/21 and the G50.  ; )

Depends on how much wrenching you like to do.
Lexus is the least. I personally love the Y33 & Y34 the best but they require too much care for the amount of time I don't have.
My '00 LS has served me very very well.

Y33 would be my pick. No real reason, just preference.

The platform you start with is really based upon your budget. I would love to build a lexus ls460, but after financing it I wouldnt beable to afford parts... LOL

....I would love to build a newer s600

i have always been a fan of the 3rd gen Lexus LS..

but i don't have the money for one....right now im on the hunt for a second gen GS with black interior.....

ideally the S150 Toyota Crown, or 98 Aristo V300 no GS bs lol
 
for modern CL65 AMG :)

If I were to do it over again, I'd go with LS430
