G50 + Equips

I finally pulled the trigger got bought some work equips.

Forum image

Specs are step lip 18x10-8; 18x12-3. The tires im running are 225/40/18 Nexen 3000 and 265/35/18 Nankang NS2. The reason why i have two different tires is cause i actually had the nexen laying in my garage for about 9 months.

Forum image

I just installed SPL Ruca, Toe and Tension rod and was able to test fit the wheel. In the picture I maxed out the camber on the arms and i measured a 23mm gap between the fender and out lip of the wheel. Which means if i were to run with max camber i could run a 18x12-26. Below is the picture with max camber. I dont know how many degrees it is but i pulled some camber out so the wheel would be flush.

I took a quick shot at the alignment shop and the specs are in the green besides the camber which is -4 front and -10 rears.

Those are some pictures rolling to and at Black2.

I still have my JIC FUCA and Tension rod to install which will camber in my fronts to around -8. I suspect that the fronts will be sunken in so after i figure out the exact numbers I will have to buy a spacer.

That's all for now and I'll update with pictures after I install the front arms.

Very nice!!! Thats ALOT of negative camber!!! And I thought the -4.5 in the rear looked crazy, you rockn -10! Madness (in a good way). What else you got planned for your car? You planning on running -8 front and -10 rear when it's all said and done? I didn't know there was an aftermarket FUCA for the G50. Me and Bryan tossing around the idea of UAS on the G50 even tho some have said there is rubbing issues. Apparently the key might be the front camber settings ....

My next plan is to get a pair of shorter shock bodies for my fortune auto coilovers, stiffer springs and a skid plate for the oil pan. When that is done I will be able to lower the front more so ill be able to tuck the tires. The FUCA is made by JIC which i bought from JSTYLE. There is also one i've seen on YAJ but that was 3 weeks ago. I wanted to go air on the G50 but there isn't any affordable kits. I was thinking about getting Air Cups for the fronts only but I've got use to driving low anyways with my coils I dont really see much of a point.

That is also my plan as well. I'll be ditching the bag at some point and switch to s short stroke Fortune with Swift springs and a cup kit (which might be offered by Fortune at some point next year). If not, I might just do a bag on the coils.

Looks good by the way!!!

If you modify them you can usually get a decent amount (6-8 degrees). Just shorten the threaded pillow ball part so you can make them shorter.

Although, I did this years ago and have no idea which brand I used... so they might be different now??

Mahalo nui loa for the info! I did not know that. I'm running a few z32 suspension links (spl) but looks like I might need to do some more research to see what else I missed. And yeah true that on the bags, read online from multiple ppl that there is rubbing issues. Its all because of that weird suspension link that attaches to the FUCA. Wish there was a tubular version of that link (maybe go custom in the future). But recently got word from a contact in Japan that there are a few G50's from Japan that use UAS. So trying fo find out what the trick is. Has something to do with front camber. Mahalo again!

the issue with z32 fuca is that the common design (dog bone) binds at low ride height. the jic fuca are shortened, non adjustable stock style arms so it''s not an issue. there are a couple companies that make stock-clearance designs (nagisa, d/c jic, d/c stillen, etc.) and some dog bone styles that have offset adjusters that supposedly provide the clearance needed.

for the uas clearance, what they're most likely doing is usiong an adjustable camber plate to bring the top of the strut inward. this won't really add camber because of the suspension design but it will provide clearance to the third link. extending the fuca (whether adjustable or cut and weld) would probably help also.

The front camber arms are already installed. Now the wheels are sunken in about 25mm so i'm waiting for the spacers to come in so it will be back to flush. Which means after spacers are installed the front specs will be 18x10 -33 =)

Ill update with pictures after Canibeat's First Class Fitment Show.

Ill update with pictures after Canibeat's First Class Fitment Show.

Haha Awesome! You are going to kill me with fitment... my SL's are so weak. Ah well, new wheels will be in order shortly!

Looking forward to seeing your car at the show!

For 2012 on my list is to tub the fenders all around, stiffer springs, shorter shocks, radius the rear fenders, lower the front half inch and rears 1.5, undercarriage skid plate, respray and redo the entire interior to mint factory condition.

I swapped the springs and took it for a test drive. I was pretty impressed. It drove 1000x better then my 14k/11k setup. Before the ride felt really soft and bouncy but now its nice like its riding on rails. It doesnt feel too hard or too stiff. Its perfect for my liking.

yea shocks are the same. i'm planning to re-valve them soon but i just want to see how long they will last as is. i need to buy another pair of short stroke shocks. as you can see in the picture the lower mount is raised all the way up. so with this setup, to lower the car more i need to drop the spring which i dont want to do. i'm going to take the short front shock and swap them to the rears and put the new shorter shocks in the fronts. but as for the ride now its a lot better. my ass was literally airborne a couple times hitting a few major dips driving to work but all the bumps and potholes were like butter.

yea shocks are the same. i'm planning to re-valve them soon but i just want to see how long they will last as is. i need to buy another pair of short stroke shocks. as you can see in the picture the lower mount is raised all the way up. so with this setup, to lower the car more i need to drop the spring which i dont want to do. i'm going to take the short front shock and swap them to the rears and put the new shorter shocks in the fronts. but as for the ride now its a lot better. my ass was literally airborne a couple times hitting a few major dips driving to work but all the bumps and potholes were like butter.

i don't think you'll actually blow the shock since the travel will be so limited, i just don't think it will perform as good as it could. for the same reason, you'll probably be ok with ~1" of droop, should got helpers at the same time and gone for it.

You're right about the limited travel. I figured some spring droop wouldnt hurt since they are soo stiff. But i will definitely get some helps in the next couple weeks. I can hear the rear spring pop back into place when im going up and down inclines.

I'm following this thread closely because I want to do a cup kit for my next round of suspension mods. My idea was to ditch my JIC's and go with a super short strut with stiff spring, and then the cups, but my problem was sourcing the strut. After reading through this thread again, it looks like I'm not the only one interested in super short struts (which is awesome). I was not aware that you could source shorter shock bodies and stuff like that. The extent of my "research" (if you can call it that haha) was that the Skyline struts would be my best bet, just based on oem length and the weight of the car (which Im guessing would influence the valving). Looks like you are having good success with Fortune Auto. Do you know someone that works there? My problem has always been the communication. I dont speak Japanese so I can never communicate with these manufacturers. Do you know of other manufacturers that offer things like shorter bodies and custom valving? My goal is to build/order something custom off the bat, short body, stiff spring, matching valving. The crazy part is that it needs to be spec'd for cups, which add another inch and a half to the height of the unit (meaning my strut would need to be an inch and a half shorter than someone that planned to go static). Looking at your current setup, I dont know if that is even possible (what you got there is already short!!). Well, good job with your build. And thanks for the pic's/info. You are the current King of G50 fitment in the US. Lookn sick.

326 power has the shortest I have seen so far.

and helper spring?? all the helper springs I have seen get fully compressed when car is lowered, and are there to keep the spring from coming off the perch when going over a bump if it over extended.. but i havent seen ones that help in actual suspensioning lol

Thanks. I still got a lot to dial in with the suspension. But with your spring rates you'll be very happy.

Yea its repairable. My fab guy that welded my oil pan said he can weld up the wheel. As for the S14 skid plate you can make it work for the Y33. It wasn't a bolt on for my G50. I had to drill mounting holes.
