DIY: How to make a mold
OK I'll give it one more try.
This is on the same ricer car BUT let me be frank upfront.
THIS IS A HOW TO, NOT A BASHING THREAD. TAKE THE ADVICE FOR WHAT IT IS.
OK so we start with two pakistanies and some fiberglass stuff.
First, we mask it off.
Then coat it with Bees wax and then recoat it with AP ( Acrilic plastic).
Then we coat it with Gel coat.
Let that set up while its setting up you can prep your matt for the next move. You will want to separate the mat so you have one layer or the multiple layers in the matt. This also works for FGing tight corners and crevices.
So yeah lay this shit on in one clean layer.

Make sure you roll out the air bubbles and get this coat on perfect. This is going to be the smooth end of your mold. Anything thats stuffed here will be stuffed in the mold.
Next lay it on. We used 4 more coats of mat.

Err.. that pic/logo looks worrying but i'll assume they are defending the car modding faith :P
Awesome writeup. Hope this isnt a noob question but what layer is it that separates from the original piece at the end? Is it the bees wax/acrylic plastic or the Acrylic plastic/Gelcoat layers?
Also, are they using their bare hands with FG? For the rest of us we use gloves right?

Yeah the ap separates from the wax to pull loose.
What gloves only pussies wear gloves. After you spend enough time in it it doesnt itch anymore. Hell these guys where open toe'ed sandles. The trick is not to wear it but to apply it to your work.

The bars are to keep the mold from tweeking after its off the car. When you lay up the next part it gets really hot from the chemical reaction of the FG this is to keep thengs straight becouse the mold can tweek from the heat.
