my megan y33 coil install
as this has already been done before a couple times, let me try to show what i did and what i spent to get y33 megan coilovers on a y34.
a box lol
what is inside the box
the stuff inside the box....on the floor
*i took off the rear sleeves since you have to run the z32 rear lower mounts (uprights) to make the rear coils fit on the y34
i luckily found a set of y34 front struts to use, but you can also use the y33 97-01 q45 front knuckles as well since they are identical. this is what they look like after you cut the strut tube off
the sleeves dont fit down in the knuckle *like they should* so you have to take a carbide bur bit and open the inside up just enough for the sleeve to bottom out
the carbide bur bit i used from grainger. double cut cylinder shaped bit. cuts through that metal like butter :)
i had to open the inside up just a smidge more in the bottom so the sleeve would bottom out but you get the idea lol
also make sure before you weld the sleeves that you align them correctly with the knuckle. the lil pin and bolt on the backside is supposed to align straight with the spindle....so just eyeball it the bestest that you can and weld it up!
there will be a very small gap between the sleeve and knuckle when it is bottomed out....a good solid weld will fill this gap and be ready to install!!

**the allen wrench in that one pic is what i used to help reference the straight line with the spindle.
and i paid $835 for the coils and $77 for the z32 rear uprights and $115 for both front y34 complete front strut assemblies from a local junk yard.

so i made a lil more progress today. dropped the knuckles and sleeves off at a local welding/fab shop this morning. $50 and a few hours later, i was super anxious to do the damn install already!
taped them up for a lil semi gloss black paint to cover the welds
minus the tape
now you gotta swap over the brake shields and wheel bearings over to the new knuckles (unless you are using the stuff from your car) and thread in the coils :biggthumpup:

the y33 coils dont have the tabs for the wheel sensor grommets to slide into or for the brake hose to clip onto.....so you just gotta ziptie them
now onto the rear coils....the z32 uprights are about 1/4" too narrow so you gotta grind away to make them fit onto the rear knuckle. i did a combo of taking my carbide bid to both the inside of the z32 upright and the knuckle until they fit.
and vwallaaa they fit!
you gotta open the mounting holes up a tad since the y33 mounting bolts are a lil wider, no biggy with a die grinder and a carbide bit :)
get some nuts to secure the lower bolt

there is still another couple inches of adjustment so there is more than enough room to go MOAR LOW....which i plan to do in a couple days lol i already rolled the rears a lil, gotta do the fronts now. then add some spacers to flush the front and poke the rear.
camber right now is -1.1f and -2.5r
wheel specs are 20x8.5 with 225/35 n3000
20x10 with 245/35 n3000

oh yeah, and mad props to my buddy kingpin suggesting me getting coils over springs....although he was pushin for PBMs lol and actually wantin me to buy his AR setup haha and his JP kit hahahahah
......and i still have another 2-3" of drop left in both the front and rear so this megan setup will def slam out a y34! i had some creakin noises in the rear when goin over bumps and stuff, so i found some washers that were wider than the nuts provided and tightened them down.....put the seats back in....and no more noise! these ride amazing.....smooth yet firm!!!! A+ in my book!
