The Knicks finally have good players for the first time in like over a decade and then the lockout hit.  

I am glad its over with.  I wouldn't point blame at either side.  NBA players have an average career of 10-12 years.  They have to make what they can in that time and its only fair they get paid well.  12 people on a roster and 15,000 to 20,000 people watching them per game for 82 games plus playoffs and pre-season, why shouldn't they get paid?  Very high conditioning is involved unlike sports like baseball where certain positions can be played by fat guys (pitchers, 1st basemen, right fielders, DH).  I feel that basketball players deserve the money.

As for the owners, it wasn't the big market teams complaining much, it was the teams that had as many empty seats as full seats.  The economy is hurting them and hurting the league as a whole.  Both sides had to give a little to make it happen.

Honestly I think the teams that will be good this year are: Lakers, Heats, Mavs, Magic, Knicks, Hornets, Thunders, and Bulls

As much as I hate the Celtics and Boston/New England teams in general, don't sleep on the Celtics.  The best thing that could happen for those old guys is a short season.  Same goes with the Spurs who were beasts in the regular season, then ran out of steam.

Think back to the last lockout when a David Robinson half way into a nursing home, won it all with a Sophomore Tim Dunkin.

True.. I didn't want to count the Celtics because they're rivals with the Lakers, but I agree this shorter season will let the veterans give a bit more oomph to their game. Also players that have been playing overseas will also have improved their game or at least changed their playing style a bit, so that will be fun to watch. Some players I'm very excited to see are Ricky Rubio, Black Griffin, Derek Rose, and Kevin Durant. I can't forget Kobe's finishing abilities, but let's hope Pau Gasol will be better this season.

I don't think Ricky Rubio will be effective for a few years.  In todays game, the point guard has to have a 3 point shot.  Hes a great play maker but not a great shooter from anywhere.  He doesnt have rondo speed to get in the lane at will.  Once he develops that shot, he will be fun to watch.  The question is if he can develop it before they lose patience and he ends up back in europe

I think this is Kobe's last great chance to make it to the finals (unless they get Howard next offseason).  He only played 33 minutes a game last year to preserve him for the playoffs.  With the short season, he can play more minutes during the season and have more gas left in the tank for the playoffs

True, I just wish point guards played more like Magic Johnson back in the day. He was so fun to watch. Too bad now its all about self stardom. 

I couldn't agree with you more Agi. Kobe might just get more playing minutes, and I hope they do get Howard next season. However, people say Howard might just go with Chris Paul.

Being a ball player myself (Playing almost 5 days a week) has really made me appreciate watching college ball alot more. I feel like there's less politics, more true to playing real basket ball without all the hollywood shit. I can relate to that style of play more.
 
But I'll take the short season. At least if bron bron wins he'll have that * next to his stat LOL!!!!

Well if they trade Dwight, Turk is coming along with Dwight. So that's a perfect team if you ask me. We trade Bynum and some other guys for DW and Turk and our starting 5 would consist of, Kobe, DW, Pau, Turk, and D-fish

The lakers are good up front, they dont need dwight, they need a point guard.  Dwight isnt going to do shit against chandler anyway.  By kidd, barrera, terry are going to run laps around fisher and score 60-70 points on the lakers back court.  Thats if they make it past the Thunder and Westbrook who will average 30 a game on them in the series if they don't get a better quicker defensive point.

They need Paul if they want to get out of the west.  Howard is just an upgrade on a position they are already good at IMO

Dwight though, we definetly need! We need a dominant pressence in the center and Gasol and Bynum aint gettin it down. One plays too soft and out his role, the other has too many injuries already to become what he shoulda or coulda been. You seen what we did w/ shaq in the mix, so you already know what we would do if we got DH. 
 
Honestly though, I'm always curious to see how the next are gonna do since they got Amarie & melo but I aint expecting them to be much of a contender for the ship.

All I am saying is Dwight will help them get the #1 seed in the regular season and even long term for the team but they still are not going to get passed the mavs this year without help at the guard position and a better bench.  They need luke walton coming back and helping make plays and a few guys hitting open shots.

And the West is tough this year.  The Grizzlies started last year bad but finished like a top 4 team.  They beat the spurs and took OKC to 7 games.  They match up good with the Lakers too.  Tony Allen might be the only one to be able to guard Kobe one on one and keep him at around 20 or less (if he dont get in foul trouble).  And the rest of the team is young and they got a big front court that rebounds.

OKC will have a healthy perkins and Ibaka stepping up.  Not to mention Durrant having a crazy year.  Hes like 22 or 23 now

Spurs if they get Caron Butler, you gotta watch out for them too.  Caron is consistant and can play D.  Jefferson is washed up.  The Spurs (and the lakers if they make a few changes) are one of 2 teams that actually have a real shot at beating the Mavs

Denver is out of the picture since their 3 best players are stuck in Europe.  Overall, the West is real tough this year if good players stay healthy

I can't agree with you more Agi, however if the Lakers do get DH other teams will have trouble guarding both pau and DW. Pau is versatile from shooting, taking the ball to the hoop, and on the inside. DH can rebound, finish, work on the inside, and shoot a little bit. And as for the PG position, it is true that D.Fish is nearing retiring. Shannon cannot play good D nor be as good of a PG as CP3. The Lakers have always been weak at the PG position. If we do get CP3 then that'll solve the problem. So all in all if we get both DW and CP then I'll be happy. But I'll take either one really.

David Stern just denied the trade of Odom and Pau for CP3 that's a bullshit call!

Yeah can't wait.  Basketball doesn't get real good until 2 months into the season.  Right now, lots of shitty teams are going to beat good teams so I don't take what goes on now too seriously.  I'm just happy that games are back on tv but as of right now, I rather watch college.  The kid Fab Melo from Syracuse had like 8 blocks at half time.  He's gonna be #1 pick I think.

Jeremy Lin is Taiwanese American. I would know cuhz I am Taiwanese :giggity:. He's good though. Starting for the Knicks for the past 2 games and scoring 25pts and 28pts. I'd say that's pretty decent. But I will agree with Pancakes that it is only 2 games. We haven't really seen him play against other teams. He was with Golden State for a bit, then the Rockets, then the Knicks, D-League, and then the Knicks again. He's an all around player which any coach will love, but I'm curious as how he will play against John Wall on I think... Wednesday(?). Because 2 years ago he played against John Wall and he lit it up!

So the Knicks take on the Heat tonight.  Thoughts??  

I am almost 100% sure that the Knicks are the underdog here but lets say JR Smith steps up, Baron steps up, Chandler, Anthony, Amare, Jeffries, Novak all step up?  For those who are skeptic about Lin, would winning this game "officially" change their minds about Lin, even though the other guys step up and win the game??

I'm excited for that game tonight. It should be a good contest and although I will admit that Lin is good, not great, I think the media is over hyping him way too much ala Tim Tebow but I do give homey his credits, he's got his moments. 
If they do manage to pull off a W tonight or come close, then to me that well answer how he stacks up to better competition. 
NY is no doubt the underdogs but I think it will be a close fought game.
 
My lakers on the other hand have a tough match against OKC in OKC 
Hopefully we can scratch out a W after coming off lastnights win

Yea I already jumped off the "Linsanity" bandwagon haha...it was kew at first and I repected his game because of his heritage but now it just seems too media saturated...like older surburbian parents saying their "still down or can get jiggy with it" or the term swag. I mean come on, does he really need his own ticker on espn?!
He is humble and its through no fault of his own as I have heard he has turned down magazine such as GQ. 
But let's face it on the Knicks BEST day they are the 3rd best team in the east. They went from having no talent to having too much talent. They can't compete defense wise to Miami. I am using tonights game to judge how well they stack up against the Heat rather then sayin if this or that happens they can very well win the game.
I am more concerned with tonights game with the Lakers & OKC.

like you said, the dude is humble as hell and there's nothing he can do with all the media he's getting. He revived the NYK's back into the playoffs and he's been humble throughout. So I wouldn't just jump off the bandwagon since he's getting all types of media. Anywho MIA should take it with NYK playing a game last night and flying to MIA late, but who knows, hopefully it's a good game. Wouldn't be surprised if there is a blowout.

The media and a lot of people are giving Lin a hard time now since the nyk lost to the heat.  Yesterday, yahoos title was "back to earth".  I don't think anybody took him away from earth but the media.  Most teams would lose to Miami, why is Lin and the Knicks taking so much crap?

The Lakers finally got rid of Walton! He has had almost no significant importance or role for Los Angeles in the past three years. All he is is the son of Hall of Famer Bill Walton and I can't believe he spent his NBA career of nine-season with the Lakers AND is making around $5mil this year to sit the bench! 
There are no free rides and you sir are no exception. Any player who is part of the Lakers franchise has a duty and responsibility to uphold their rich winning history/heritage and now that slot can filled by someone deservingly or at least temporary deservingly.

true but LAL still didnt play well, not to mention the spurs are (were) just too much for the clipps. decent game today, theres like 20 secs left in the 4q doe, SA up by 1

LAL will get bounced tonight.  Spurs and OKC next.  to me, that's the better game than the Finals will be.  I'm not too excited about any of the East Coast teams, although I would like to see Boston or Pacers and not Miami.

spurs/okc will def be the game to watch of the finals..tho okc vs miami would be pretty fun too.

I wonder how much it would cost to pay to play on a team haha. Obviously not nearly as good as kobe, so I would not have to pay 25m's a year.. maybe a Milli or something a season. People would be like who is this fat kid on the team. I would be that stunt double who looks for fouls and do way better fake injury's.

OKC spurs will be ok to watch. not exciting but still be decent games. so far i still have boston / okc in the finals with OKC coming out on top.
