All social medias and search engines do the same....the problem is that it is illegal without a signed federal wiretap concent....lawsuits r coming...

So your smart phone is spying on your every move and you dont like it. What are you going to do about it? Probably nothing. Take the blue pill, turn on the game and go back to sleep.

I think people are sensationalizing the story and blowing it out of proportion. Can CarrierIQ be used to 'track your every move'?? Apperently yes, it has the capability of logging data. Is that actually happening right now? Nobody knows. And until we actually know, I think it is a little irresponsible for people to be saying it does, and it is happening right now.

Now don't get me wrong, I support protecting privacy and ethical business practices, especially in regards to privacy data and peoples PII. I do believe the government (FTC) needs to step in and enforce more regulation in terms of users privacy and business ethics relating to the collection and use of privacy data and peoples PII (like they did to facebook). But this whole "omg you're being tracked right now" response by the 'Internet Media' is overboard in my opinion. I think it reflects poorly on the 'Internet Media' in general, where fact / source checking seems to be of unimportance, and anyone has the capability of saying anything to large audiences. The fact is, one guy said something and everyone else is regurgitating it with little knowledge of what is actually going on.

The honest truth is that any piece of computer electronics running software likely has the capability of doing things we wouldn't like, or wouldn't approve of. But does that mean it is always happening? Maybe. But more likely, maybe not. Simply put, we are putting our trust in these companies that design this stuff, and there is a high level of accountability. If they are indeed abusing us, then I agree they should be burned. But it is only fair to give them due process. The market (consumer) has the power to even this out and make it 'right', and these companies know this. I would be more worried about criminals that actually want to do us harm, potentially using an unrelated backdoor exploit discovered the same day that got no sensationalized media coverage.

But hey if they are "tracking my every move" then I guess they got all my posts on VSC, including this one. I better hide!!! Hahahaha

I dont have one.. but if I did.. I hope they would track me! They would learn a thing or two, who ever "they" was.

any phone can be tracked... it's all about triangulating and which cell tower you are logged into.   That's why people have been getting caught doing stuff because even though you don't use the phone they know where you have been by towers logging you being within vicinity.

ex:

you happen to accidently stick a 10" blade into someone you know a dozen times.... stuff'em in a plastic lined trunk next to your air tank and compressor.   Then drive out to the dessert and dig a 3ft hole because you got so damn tired and couldn't dig the rest of the 3ft.    you drop accidently stabbed body into the ground and cover it up.  you go home...  use bleach to clean everything burn the clothes you were wearing including shoes...  Take a hot ass shower and scrub under nails and everything and clean your car with bleach and clean the tires/rims well of any trace of dirt from the desert.   A few weeks go by and cops question you since you were last guy to see the person and bam they check your cell phone company and you went all the way out to some BFE area when you told the cops you were at home alone...

Anyways I've watched a couple episodes of CSI and law & order...lol

You were right about the lawsuits!! Hahaha man that was fast. Now we will really see weather or not CarrierIQ is tracking our every move...

There is also a link in there to another article that contains CarrierIQ's response, including a review by a well respected independent security analyst that debunks the claim. The guy that originally made these claims better hope he is right, otherwise there might be lawsuits coming his way.
