Y33 pbm coilover owners
Watzup y33 owners with PBM coilovers. Im just curious if how LOW can your fronts go? Coz ive been trying to lower my coilovers on the front but it seems like it wont go any lower anymore :pat:
Pics of it maxed out (with some more thread left but wouldnt turn anymore :signdammit:)
Video will trying to make it lower:
<a href="http://s921.photobucket.com/albums/ad55/kobyas0/?action=view¤t=ca35507d.mp4" target="_blank"><img src="http://i921.photobucket.com/albums/ad55/kobyas0/ca35507d.mp4" border="0" alt="Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos" /></a>
PBM installed it but i guess they cut it a tad longer. Back seems to be ok with lots of room to play with.
Do you guys have the same problem or is it just me coz they messed up the measurements?
(have nothing against PBM its a good setup but before getting this and seeing rides like brokey33 and cubangs that goes really low, I thought this can go low as F. But now im stuck with this problem)

Counter clock wise to raise it up.
Clock wise to go down.
Unfortunately PBM probably didnt give enough slack for him to max out the coils. :( He also asked if he can get it fixed but they want the car to stay in SD but when they installed it before it only took them a few hours?? Feel bad coz I kinda recommended the coils to him based from the good reviews from the pbm thread

I think he can't get the shock body any lower into the bottom body therefore taking collars off would be pointless.

Its low but not the low that i want and not the low that ive seen on other cars before ive decided to purchase the coils

Can't really compare it to brokes set up though. Even though he's on pbms', he's on s13 pbms' n if I'm not mistaken, those are a lot shorter.
Hope u get this fixed though

shorter damper, shorter spring.

shorter damper, shorter spring.
Why can't you go any lower? There are still enough threads to equal to about 1 collar lower, you said they won't thread down any more but that's not possible. The entire shock body is threaded, and in fact it's threaded down into the tube, the thread pitch is the same, it's not like they changed the thread pitch and your collars won't go down any more.
When I went lower on mine (Y33 and Y34 fronts are 100% identical) the collars were threaded against each other tight as hell!! I had to use a mallett and a steel rod to finally get them loose and it took some serious banging. So it could be the same thing for you and they're just fo feakin tight that you can't get them loose. I guarantee once you do, you can thread them down all the way.
As for PBM, I'm pretty certain that they didn't put it all the way down because they went a little conservative and will leave it to the owner to modify to their liking. It was the same with mine, they were a little on the conservative.
One thing I don't get between Y33 vs. Y34 front is that the actual parts are the same exact thing, but for some reason the Y33 doesn't seem to get as low in the front as the Y34. I could still lower my Y34 another 1-2 inches in the front, I could literally have my cats laying on the ground (they're 1 lug-nut above it right now). Maybe on Y33 the top of the strut mount area on the body of the car is at a lower point than it is on Y34??? dunno, but I do know that you could get those collars to be stacked on top of each other and at least get another 1/2-or so lower. Keep in mind, the height on the tube you see will equate to more than that in actual lowering.
The other option is like Mike (OG) said, shorter shock and spring. That's how Chris Cuban is so low with room to go lower, he bought the shorter shocks.

the issue is that the damper is bottomed out in the lower bracket (spindle). the only way to go lower as set up is to drop the lower spring perch, which will result in a loss of travel. otherwise the op needs new parts or to cut them back out and reweld them shorter (if possible).

Thanks for the input man. I tried banging it also using a mallet but it wouldnt turn anymore. The threaded tube wont turn anymore coz it was cut longer so forcing it to turn will not be possible coz there is no more room for the thread to go lower (theres no more room to play on the bottom). The only fix i can see on this is to modify the shocks (like what you and OG said). I'm not trying to go all crazy low but my height right now is only riding on modified springs IMO lol.
THANKS again guys. i will be updating this thread as soon as I get a solution on this.

This is why I'm strongly considering the BC's with the super low option. I want my maxed out heighth to be about 3" lower than stock. I'm sure PBM can provide shorter springs and inserts, though.

Do you guys have the same problem or is it just me coz they messed up the measurements?

Yeah. Thats weird. mabe they didnt do the mesurments right. I had to make sure mine was right. I put it on my y34 and it can go as low as F.L.S said..

OG is right you could lower the spring perch itself but you'll lose travel. If you are going that route and want to slam then I guess you could get rid of the 2 bottom collars of the 3. and bring the single spring perch top collar all the way down until it locks the shock to the spindle body. Looks like you might gain 1"-1.25" drop but that means you are losing that much travel also. You could preload the springs alittle bit as well to compensate abit of the loss of the travel...ALITTLE! Do at your own risk but my guess is the dampening won't last long. Also you might want to cut the bump stop a notch or two

You cant really take out the collars since it wont even go down to the last thread
What you see on the pic is the max it can go:sad:
I guess the only way is to get it re welded to fix it and I think pbm wants to charge him for it even if he asked to make sure it can be maxed out before install

Dranom I know what you are saying.. I'm saying lower the spring perch all the way down until the collar meets the bottom spindle tube. Another thing why this shouldn't be done is the spring will no longer be held in since the travel is longer then the length of the spring... so if the whole thing happens to decompress like 3 wheeling it somewhere then there is a chance the spring might move and come down crooked which will most likely blow the shocks..
