RE: "Double" Step Lip Wheels
Someone mentioned in my wheel thread for sale there was such thing as a "double" step wheel. For example, I know that a 19" set of step lip wheels would use an 18" face; however, I have never seen an 18" face stepped into a 20" wheel.
Anyone ever hear of this? Any examples?

I was just talking to Cheez80 about this earlier. I know brain was talking about it too. Idk if it is possible. Plus it would make your wheels look... REALLY small IMO

I guess it depends how it's executed. How I'm imagining it to look would be no different than a regular step lip wheel just with a longer dimension.

People do it with BBS RS' to jump from 16" to 18". IMO, it doesnt look nice. Those lips are most likely limited to smaller sizes as well

Unless you custom make a bigger step lip that takes up 2 inches

From what I understand, they are actually called slant lips.
They came factory like that on BBS RS' from Porsche.
That was one of the few times I have seen it, but I dont see why they couldnt apply to any other size. Once you have the lip set, then you have to make a barrel the same way.

i know i was talking about it, but i was kind of joking. for one, i think its an unattractive look, and secondly and more importantly, i myself have never seen anyone rebarrel their wheels with this style and i don't know about the availability of the wheels.

keep in mind that aftermarket +2 step lips do not look like the slant lips on bbs rs285/286 and 20" meister 2 piece. aftermarket lips usually inrease the size of the mounting flange for the face bolts. i can see doing it for an old school wheel (on an old school car) that needs to jump from 17" to 18", but not an lm-r. lm-r is currently produced in 21". sell, rebuy.

no sir, they're under $3k/wheel retail by current exchange. not that that's not a lot of money but the difference in price between what you have and what you want is ~$500/wheel. you would spend more than that rebuilding and come out with an end result that is lower quality and not as good looking. of course you're taking a huge hit because the 20s are used and underappreciated. the real story here is you're selling $9K+ worth of wheels for half price and people are not biting. guess there's no market for true high end wheels; just the ones you can get in double digit widths, negative offsets, and gimmicky styling. :pat:

i think with a chunky tire it'd look good, but anything stretched or small sidewall will look stupid.

These are actually 1 piece barrels with a custom register which would be one method for a "double step". The other would be to use slant lips like CCW, however AFAIK their supplier does not make 21" rim shells.

First thing that came to mind was that S2000. Not a fan of the appearance at all. But other examples like the BBS on this page pull it off pretty well. The depth of the lip has a big part in how it'll look too.

QFT. Selling two (2) sets of wheels worth over $10K for half price, yet everyone is looking for a deal on top of a deal. worst part about buying expensive parts is people wanting to trade you two nickels for a dime. someone buy my wheels!

that just means you got two sets to sell for more and potentially get more money for them. It all depends on the date and condition of the nickle
