Similar to our Competition Coilovers in Features and our Pro Coilovers in Appearance, the Y33 VIP spec coilover provides lots of performance and style at a reasonable price.
key features:
- Copper Plated hardware and gold coated spring
- Front lower mount welds to OEM spindle & last 2 inches of the damper tube for maximum strength
- Aggressive damping range with fast adjust:
- Allows you to do 32 clicks of damping change in just 12 clicks!
- Pillow ball upper mount on front AND REAR!
- Replaceable shock & customizable spring available to special order in custom Kg (even numbers only) .
- Billet T6061 lightweight aluminum Rear Lower mount with urethane bushing.
- All aluminum components are hard anodized
- High rigidity/High precision piston rod design exceeds racing standards
- Adjustable to super low ride height
- Full thread tap piston and locking collar allows vehicle height to be adjusted independent of the spring preload.
- 2 collar wrenches are included.
- Light weight T6061 aluminum spring perch and locking collar designed to bear the weight of vehicle
- Spring upper perch provides independance between the spring and the pillowball.
The Y34 coilovers pre packaged spring rates are 10KG F 8KG R
If you want, you can go +/- 2 KG on the out of the box damper.
Additional springs can be purchased for $60/pair
One off spring orders are black color only, even numbers only up to 22 KG
Additional dampers are $100, you can special order a damper to match a spring that is out of the original dampers range.
But spec on paper is not the whole story, before you go special ordering you should probably try it as-is, see how it feels to you, and your individual situation and go from there.
Lifetime manufacturers defect warranty
100% new dampers are $100 ea. Which is cheaper than a rebuild where you get back some used parts and new seals. This system is designed to reduce your downtime if you should ever have a problem and it saves labor time and shipping costs.
No one ever buys replacement dampers from us unless they crash. They are really reliable. However if you choose to under/over spring the damper too much with say air bags, you can expect to limit the life of the damper.

The challanging part of the install is cutting the front strut tube. You want to cut it as low as possible (to maximize your lowest possible ride height adjustment) while still being able to connect a weld to the top hole on the bottom of the front lower mount.

this little tab gets ground off too. Pictured here is the safest amount of metal to leave on the knuckle because it allows for the most welding surface, but if all you care about is being the lowest Y34 out there, cut the entire strut tube off except an eighth inch for alignment.

cover the welds with undercoat preferably, or black spray paint so it does not rust.

The gold rear lower mount bolt here is stock. Its too short for the aftermarket parts install.
The replacement black one is an M12x1.25t bolt thats about 1cm longer than OEM.
New washers and a nylon lock nut are also used because the OEM lower mount has threads on one side.

Rear installed.
This is a true rear coil-over-damper conversion that achieves much more adjustability and spring choices than stock.

Kevin was smart enough to have a muffler shop reroute his pipes higher than stock.
However at these settings there is still not too much ground clearance, and these coilovers can go way way lower.

In the front the car has the OEM cats in place and with plenty more room to lower the car, there is only 1 inch of clearance.
This was still high enough to clear most any common variations in the street but we avoided speed bumps on the test drive.

We ran just a little negative camber in the front to let the wheels turn while the tires tucked in the fender.
The gold part here is the garnish that stays on the coilover.
There is also a gold adjuster that slips in the center of the garnish but you dont leave it on while driving.

We left the wheel well liners in which gave a little rub on hard cornering.
They should come out of we go lower but its nice to retain them when ever possible.

We used some MAX slip on spacers to dial the fitment, which makes a nice subtle accent behind the wheel too.

I love the Y34, such a nice car. The rear suspension design is for superior to Y33, and the feel is more like the lexus GS than the Y33.
After the car was equipped with the MAX coilovers, the ride is confidently firm, yet comfortable at this amazing static ride height.
