Hey guys, so my Q drives perfectly fine under 35-40mph as long as I dont romp on it. Then I try to get it past 50-60 and it just stops accelerating. Almost like it's hitting a rev limiter. I changed my MAF because I had some stuttering from before, now it's smooth around town but the second I try to go quicker than 60 it just stop going. I watch the revs drop and hitting the gas doesnt do anything. Today after it did it, it totally stopped accelerating. I pulled over for 3 seconds and then it drove fine again (well under 50ish, I didnt try again). Any light on this issue? After this maf and steering rack I'm super strapped for cash and dont want to buy too many more parts without having a good idea. Is it possible it's in some sort of valet mode where it doesnt go past a certain speed? Thanks in advance guys.
Here some pics of my car car for helping out=] And I know I hate the reverse rake too. I have a lot planned for spring and parts in the garage ready to be painted I just want to get it running right first

Sorry I don't have any help for your situation but I just wanted to say nice Y33

check your fuel pressure. no engine light or codes present? if you have a new afm, i'm leaning towards the fuel pump.....but get it checked out. check the pressure at idle and while driving. if the pressure drops substantially then replace it.

I had an issue occasionally w/ my Y33 where at like 75-80 the slip light would go crazy and it wouldn't accelerate at all. If I slowed down a bit till the slip light went off, I could turn off the TCS button and it would be fine, of course traction control was off, but in the dry who cares anyhow.

was this with stock or your 19s? if the tire size differs too much from stock, your tcs will act up. my g35 did that when i put a stock coupe 17 with a 45 series on when i had my 20s lol.

It was w/ the 19's but the funny thing is it never did it for years and I put a new set on and it started doing it, same size as the set that came off.

Sounds like a tcs slip problem to me because of the tire size difference

Did you change your MAF sensor because of this issue or change & THEN this happened?
If it's the later, check the sensor again, make sure it's installed properly. Having a faulty or loose sensor can cause this, including the slip lights to turn on.

Thanks for the comments guys! The plan
was some exhaust work so I can slam the front, straight pipes, and paint my 97 trunk all in the next 3 weeks.. and probably a gt grill. Hopefully I can get this fixed without breaking my wallet

Im starting to think this is what's happening. For some reason I didnt think to turn tcs off but Im gonna try that right now. I dont have my 18s on at the moment but I have small snow tires on my rear oems so that might be exactly what's happening

I changed my MAF because of some stuttering and vibrations on idle sometimes. A few days before I received the MAF this started to happen and I hoped it was due to the MAF

knock sensors?

knock sensors?
If no CEL light is being triggered I think he has low fuel pressure. If it is a TCS issue the SLIP light should come on whenever it's slipping. I also had this slip issue when I tried rolling on 20's in rear and 18s up front. I'm thinking if maintenance hasn't been done I'd change the fuel filter and see if it gets better. If not then check pressure and it could be the pump. I've never done this so I'm not sure how this is done.

I was thinking knock sensors the whole day
butttttt I'm pretty sure it was a TCS issue the whole time. I turned it off and it rides totally perfect. I feel kinda dumb for not think of that but Im wayy relieved. haha Im still planning to do the fuel filter and check my fuel pressure since I put some time aside tomorrow do it. Any other recommendations of maintenance items I should be doing? Im sure theres a list of things. Im at 150k. I was thinking ignition coils, plugs, maybe do KS and O2s.
btw I forgot I had a CEL about 2 weeks ago. It was for an o2 sensor. Another q45 owner told me he got an o2 sensor reading when his MAF was bad so I kind of went on that. I cleared the CEL and it's been gone since.

Hey i had this same problem with my Q. It's the tranny slipping.

Mine also had the SLIP light on as well.
It drove fine at low speeds and even when climbing slowly to higher speeds.
I only noticed it when i smash the gas. I never knew this even existed till one day i need to get in front of someone and it did it.

a bad maf can cause lean conditions which can throw o2 sensor codes.
now that you mentioned runnin rear stockers, yes....its your TCS engaging. weird that it does it at those speeds. my g35 startin cuttin down at like 20mph lol.
check your belts, alternator, the 2 top belt tensioner pulleys, and coils.....most common issues i deal with on a y33.

People were telling me all day that it was my tranny and I was like ehhh I doubt it haha. Thankfully it looks like it was def tcs. I have no tcs light and only slip light when it happens. The slip light shouldve been a dead giveaway for me to turn tcs off:pat:

Thanks man. My buddys getting a black, marroon, or grey one and Ive been checking some out for him. I really love all the colors. The black has crazy presence to it. Im digging the white and always surprised how few nice ones there are out there
The best part is he's not a huge car guy but digs what I do to cars so he's going all out on it and letting me build/choose everything (to an extent obviously). I'm stoked. Coils, bags, e-level, gt grill, aero kit, stupid nice wheels, etc.=D pretty much all the stuff that I want to do but cant afford lol

Ahh that makes sense. I figure my tires might now be different size enough to throw it off at really low speeds but when I get to 50+ it magnifies it. It would even happen around 40 sometimes. Im taking it a few miles down the highway today so well see if that was 100% the problem
and cool Ill check those things out asap. thanks for the help!

haha, glad I could help! I couldn't remember if the actual light said Slip or TCS, it's been a few years since I sold my Q after all, but I knew it was to do w/ that and turning off TCS cured it. You might want to clean off the TCS sensor and see if it helps (it's next to the Diff case), but it didn't help mine lol.

Just throwing this out there, I had some heavy misfires a while back. I got the SES,TCS and ABS light on. and it rode like crap. Replaced the coil packs and misfire went away. But I think it was starting to do it again before i put it away for winter like in september. If your car has over 100K I would start putting money aside for those, they aint cheap!
