z32/r32/s13/14 suspension on g50 question

i ran the stock z32 suspension on the g50 and remember having to custom fab a bracket to run front z32 struts on the rear of my car. basically running front z32 struts all around (front and rear). from the pics it looks like JZZ was running the regular front s13/14 in the front for the g50, and the rear s13/14 for the rear of the g50. does the bottom of the coilover freely rotate to be able sit on the g50's perch/mount? or is there some kind of custom work required?

link to JZZ's thread: http://www.vipstylecars.com/forums/showthread.php?p=444674#post444674
i didnt want post on his and run a tangent.

i ask because i plan on running z32 coilovers on my g50 but dont know if i have to buy a set of 4 front z32 coilovers to make it work. Im hoping those that have run either set ups z32 or s13/14 or r32 can chime in and help.

thanks for any help.

run r32/z32 front/rears w/ r32 front top hats all the way around. you'll have to modify the front lower mount or swap to a 90-93 third link if you have a 94-96. chris was not running the s chassis parts, you misunderstood.

You know I was wondering why my '91 G50 the R32 coilovers bolted on in the front and my '96 will not. haha

Good info!

Just found this thread so I figured id share what I found.

90-96 Q45 uses the same rear top hat as 97-01 Q45 and 95-98 240sx.

so rear y33/s14 top hats f/r, r32 front damper f/r, and r32 lower brackets should bolt in on a 90-93 (or 3rd link swapped 94-96) and go stupid low. who's gonna try?

Nice! Now i need s14 top hats for my rears cause im still using my stock ones LOL. But i would go stiffer springs if you plan to ride pretty low. Ohh wait your in FL, the roads are perfect out there. nevermind :slap:

edit: so does the z32 front lower mount bolt straight onto the 94-96 third link with no mods...?

No, the z32 and r32 coilovers are the same front stud, im going to swap to either z32 or 90-93 3rd member. I have mentioned a tubular replacement to my fabricator. Well see how that goes!

And no our roads are not perfect, our roads blow. But doesnt keep me frkm going low lol, it has gotten me pulled over for swerving around raised man hole covers. Haha

Ok, I just want to confirm, z32 coilovers will directly bolt on without issues on a '91 g50?

Yes z32 coilovers with 4 s14 rear top hats will bolt directly onto a 90-93 q45.

Has anyone bolted on the z32 FLCA and Third Link yet onto the G50? I was thinking of picking up some z32 parts from the junkyard this weekend. I'm hoping the third link is shorter and FLCA is longer.

i suspect they will both be shorter, since the g50 is taller and has a wider track width. give it a shot and let us know what you find.

z32 and G50 share the same FLCA, length and all. I also am pretty positive the z32 FUCA is the same length as the G50 unit. A buddy of mine tried to install the z32 FUCA,3rd member and LCA onto his g50, he said the angles were WAY off. How ever, the z32 3rd member is 1" shorter than a G50 member, if you find a way to make it work.

if you want a longer FLCA for more camber, a R33 is 10mm and uses the same balljoint/bushing as z32/r32/g50.

Jtmroczk;396230 wrote:The lengths are definitely very close if not the same.

I tried to install Z32 lower control arms and third links on to Q45 upper control arms and after market tension rods. No good, the geometry is off by a few degrees too much to push the last bolt all the way through on either the lower control arm or upper control or tension rod; pick any two you want but the third wasn't going to make it Lol.

But the z32 and g50 LCA is the same, so the angles would still be off just using the 3rd member. I have not tried myself, so I can not confirm. I was going to buy z32 3rd members instead of the 90 G50s I just bought, but didnt want to have to deal with stuff not fitting.

sounds like we need some hands on cause to me that just doesn't make sense. if the lca is the same then the tension rod should bolt up, especially a heim jointed one with more articulation. the third member is on a ball joint so it should be able to articulate free enough to get a bolt through the uca if the only difference is 1" of length. i dunno, i haven't tried it either but my gut is telling me it will work.

The third member isnt on a ball joint, its more of just a bearing. It allows it to rotate, but not articulate. I was surprised when I found this out just a few days ago when I pulled my 94 members to replace with 90-93 members.

I assume they fit aswell, but again I have not tried. I am basing my info on justins post, hes a smart guy and had z32 stuff to actually try it. The only thing I can think, is that maybe the angle at which the 3rd member twists is slightly different. If that were the case, it would make sense why the angle was off.

As for the 1", that would be a lot of a difference. I would be stoked to find out they fit for sure.

there's a balljoint on the lca, which gives the spidle articulation. you're referring to the king pin which allows the spindle to rotate independently of the 3rd link. either way, we needs answers. lol.

figured Id post this here, since OG mentioned it.

z32 coilovers, s14 top hats, 4x front struts 90-93 3rd member. There is no engine/transmission or any interior in the car, and my tires are literally holding the car up in the rear(they came on the wheels =/) Wheels are 18x9.5 w/225/40f 18x10 w/ 245/45r

So I figured I would post in here again, since you were interested in seeing the ride height.

This is:

front coils fully threaded into lower cups, springs still fully preloaded. 14kg spring, full soft 18x9.5 225/40/18.
rear coils have 3/4"-1'"ish still to thread into the lower cup, spring is still fully preloaded. 12kg spring, full soft, 18x10 225/40/18

I will get pictures with a real camera soon.
