vg30det

not so much a mod, but a question regarding the vg30det engine, when a light appears on called (anti-lock) and the engine does not start why is this? may be the alternator or battery but both seem to be in sound condition. ive never seen this light before only now, appears next to the air bag signal or close to on the y31 cimas. thx

Strange, i had the ABS (anti-lock) light on with my Y31 as well, but had no problem starting at all. If the ABS light is on, you can do a self diagnosis, by checking the ABS ECU on the right side of the boot.

There is a red LED on the corner of the ECU that flashes a number of times indicating the issue. If there is more than one problem then it will only show the first one. Once you fix/stop that issue, it will show you the next one.

Go here and use a translator:
http://www.geocities.jp/blue31cima/4was_chk.htm

But i have actually translated that page properly and if you PM me your email address i will send it to you.

Actually, that site is great for diagnosing problems with Y31 cima's... The guy who runs it is a cool cat and i've met some of the club members when i was in Japan...

No other lights appearing just that one (anti-lock) which I guess has nothing to do with the problem occuring, it won't even fire up. Thanks and pm will be sent.

Na mate nothing at all. When jump startd, you can hear it wanting to fire up and did start running then once unattached to the donor vechial (the jumpstartee) it starts idle'n really low then just dies. Other than that just trying to start her normally you get nothing at all. I might re-check the batty an alternator as I think that could be it? Any info would be great as I can't take it to a mechanic at this stage as it's obvisouly not movable. Cheers man

Definitely sounds like a battery/alternator problem if you can get it started with jumper leads. Most likely the alternator because if it was charging then it doesnt matter what condition the battery its in once the engine is running.

Could be something as simple as a fuse yet...

check the ground cables in your engine bay.

ground for battery, engine ground etc, also test the alternator.

Sounds like a problem I have.
I also occasionally get this light when driving then it starts backfiring and dies. Also happens when I try to start it and it wont.
It's an alternator issue AFAIK. Tested when idling and the alt doesnt charge the battery, only when your giving it some juice. Now my battery is fairly flat so every second or 3rd start these days is a jump start :( New battery will temporarily solve your issue (i have done it before) but it will return in a month or two!
Not really sure what i'm doing with this, might have to either reco the alt or put in a working second hand one, as i was quoted A$1200 from nissan for a new alt, plus installation.
Sucks too cos I'm wanting to sell the car but I don't really want to pass it on with this problem so I will most likley have it fixed somehow first.
