polishing wheel lips?

what do you guys use to polish your lips? esp with the wheel bolts in the way....

dismantling them is the only way to hit it 100%. then take it to someone with a polishing tumbler, or do it by hand. wet sand from 400 and work your way up and then polishing compounds.

now that i think about it...im sure the lips on my works are clear coated. guess i'll have to live with the amount of shine they have :shrug:

They are most definitely clear coated. I had nearly 6 trouble free years with my Eurolines. I just suggest you dust and spray detail regularly and then use whatever wax you like.

yeah, they arent getting dull or anything. i just wish they had a cleaner shine lol. i'll just buy some detail spray and wax

Are the lips anodized?  I used an anodize remover from Eastwood, had them polished, the coated them with Sharks Hide.
 
Much shinier than the old anodized lip.....and now I can repair if scratched.  The only issue is that I had 2 piece welded, so getting close to the face was a pain.  I have a local guy who does my polishing.

i use a carnuba based wax with the wheels off the car once per season, always washed by hand never seen a brush

I wash them and then I polish them with Meguiars NXT All Metall Polysh.
For the wax I use Finish Kare 1000P Hi Temp Wax.

MY buddy recommended some armorall wheel protectant, I haven't had time to put it on but he swears by it.

And I hate armorall products....

I'm having a bitch of a time keeping raw polished lips shiny though. Water pools in the lips because of my camber than leaves nasty stains I have to polish out. Gotta wax the fuck outta them I guess.

get them cleared. not as brilliant, but less maintenance.

I use to wash my euroline dhs with carwash soap then dry really good.then hit them hard with the big red ball on a drill with mothers polish.then id wax them with any meguires wax I had.and they looked like chrome when I was done.

Wash often...polish often...I do once a week...I use some pink chit from Walmart...

yeah i always hand wash my car with one mitt and wheels with another lol. meguires soap with wax in it. and i did buy some meguires carnuba wax for the lips along with a bottle of spray detailer. schwinggg

We use the stuff from our wheel finisher. Its pretty good but dunno the name since they buy it in barrels

I applied this stuff called "wheel ICE" (not Turtle Wax ICE) and it claims to keep your wheels cleaner. No shit, that stuff really works, my wheels would normally have visible dust on them after a day or two, but now after 2-3 days, they are still clean. I applied that stuff and then just spray detail and dust them as I normally would.  It's one of those products that you're like "yeah, right", but it really does what it says.

LOL I know most Euro cars come with such agressive brake pads that dust like hell, but it might help. If nothing else, I bet it would cut it down.

A friend of mine had a bottle he got at a wheel shop out here and let me try it out. Needless to say, I'm definitely impressed and shit's only 6.50 a bottle.

Is it good on anodized lips?

I bought Shark Hide to protect against stains and fading.  As soon as my wheel comes back from the polisher I'll put it on.  They say you can use it on anodized, or chrome, or raw aluminum, which would be great.

i just use some meguires carnuba wax after i wash them

Just wondering if after polishing waxing is nessesary...

when you have waxed it, the brake dust and dirt will come of easier.

I was watching my friend who polishes the lip of the rim.  From what i've seen him do is sands it with like 1500/2000 grit.  Then hits it with mothers mag and aluminum polish, and another type of mothers product that helps give the lips "water resistant" but he told me it was a hit or miss.

Yeah. You dont need to sand them if you have already polished them unless there are scratches. Just keep hittin it with polish once it starts to dull.

Griot's best wheel cleaner ever. My wheels were fubar from all the cinder they put on roads from winter and brake dust and so on. I used their heavy wheel cleaner and it was fun to use. I didnt have to put to much work into cleaning them. Spray wheels with water, spray the wheel cleaner, set for 5 min use wheel brush and bam done. took me 40 minutes to basically refinish my wheels that would take more than an hour a wheel. The lips are pitted but it got rid of the stuff you would have to tackle with sand paper to get rid of. And this is Bare aluminum!! Some killer shit. I got it from the shop I deal with. If you need it I will give you the number to order it and they will drop ship it to you.

Hand shined polishing will only yield a limited shine.  I've used mothers metal polish with a pretty decent result.  Chrome lips ftw...

High speed drill with denim polishing wheel and black (magic) Rouje...gets it like a mirror. then mothers wheel polish and a soft cloth.. Then wax.
