Y34 limited slip diff

Do they all come stock with one? Was it an option? If they do have one, what type is it?

They dont have lsd. R200 rear diff tho which is super common on the infinitis. One guy on nico swapped z32 tt internals into the m45 housing for lsd. After more research some of the z32 rears had identical flanges?
Its funny you asked cuz i was thinkin bout it yesterday lol. Im gonna look into finding a g35 6mt diff since they are a r200v and seein how i can get it to work.

Ok cool, I was just going to ask if it was a r200. Should bee easy enough to find some lsd parts for it then.

I had been thinking about it also. Maybe a PhantomGrip until the RIGHT parts can be put in?

Just think about every time you've done a one-wheel peel or unintentionally slid out or a corner

That's what I don't get: I did a 90' long burnout on old tires, and both wheels were spinning, and both wheels left stripes, although the pass side stripe ended about 4' before the driver side. How do I know it was 90'? LONG ass measuring tape (100') the kind with a handle that you crank to wind it back in.

weird cuz the y34 isnt equipped with a factory lsd.

mine has kicked out a few times when i first got mine with stockies and wet roads, but i havent power-braked it to see what it does. i do know an lsd would make a big difference...especially when you get stuck lol

yeah, I've done burnouts and the back was going sideways, both wheels spinning. I know if it's jacked up in the back, you spin one wheel the other goes the opposite direction, but anyhow, I don't know much about LSD. I know the Y33 had one, at least the T did, it was the same thing both wheels would spin. I can't power brake it though, even with the VSC turned off, it won't do anything. I just put in "1" and from a stop smash the pedal.

Been there done that. Y34 and F50 never came with a mechanical LSD, they relied on the VDC and electronic traction control. All the automatic V35 and Z33 use the 3.3FD R200 which is interchangeable with the Y34 and F50 pumpkins once the driveshaft flange is swapped. I currently have a F50 that way as they originally came with a 2.8FD R200. Huge difference in acceleration. I have also had a VLSD installed into a F50 2.8FD that was removed from the V35/Z33 R200. The manual tranny V35/Z33 use a 3.5FD R200 and have a 10mm offset so only the auto LSD can be used. If you plan to swap the manual R200 pumpkin, just do like stated above and swap the flange. Some aftermarked LSD manufacturers say that if you are installing an LSD into a non-VLSD equipped pumpkin, you need different stub flanges, but when I did mine I stayed with the original flanges that came with the F50 pumpkin. And the Z32TT came with the R230, it does not fit in the F50 as I have tried. It hits the subframe. Might be more than I'm remembering here as I did this about 5 years ago, so just ask if you got more questions. I've got a Quaife LSD and a ATS LSD sitting in a bucket for about a year now that I will be installing eventually.

you say huge difference in accel. Good or bad with the 3.3? I know they changed the 05? f50 diff with a different ratio to one that accels quicker but worse gas mileage

Reading a bunch of the phantom grip reviews it looks like a pretty solid part. Can anyone confirm which kit to use for the y34? Do I use the 240sx kit?

sweet. thats what i was needin to hear. just need to find a g35 vlsd rear end now!! then all i need to do is swap my y34 companion flange over with no spacers/shims needed? the higher gear ratio will give faster acceleration but you'll notice a lil higher rpms while cruising.

the 03 m has a 3.133 r200 2-pinion rear end
the 04 g35 6mt has a 3.538 r200v lsd rear end
the 04 g35 5at has an optional 3.357 r200v lsd rear end but most have the 2-pinion

02 F50 ran the 2.8FD, the 03+ F50 and Y34 got the 3.133 to achieve the 0-60mph claim they had made. There is also a 3.7FD but I don't know if it had the VLSD available. The 3.9 and 4.1 I think are sold as a ring and pinion set that have to be swapped in, don't think any car came equipped with those ratios. The F50 with the 3.3 accelerates much faster and will just light up the tires. I was stopped and when I smashed the pedal, by the time I started rolling, I could no longer see the car stopped behind me as he was blanketed by the smoke.

has anyone looked at the OS Giken rear Super LSD available for the M45 specifically? yes, it's for the VQ35DET version, but if we can validate the rear end, it should be a direct bolt in.

The 3.9 and 4.1 are off of wat cars?

So go for the 350z auto vlsd and pretty much a direct swap? Do you have the VDC/TCS override as well? DOes it let you handle better? Last experience with my RWD i had low back PSi in one tire and lost the rear end and flipped her, so as much traction (I wouldnt drive with the TCS/VDC off, just flip to do a burnout in a p-lot or something) as I can. Thanks

hahaha. sorry. fingers moving too fast and reading directly from the OSG site. the 3.0T

per OSG: Cedric Y34 VQ35DET D-NA402051605-S

anyways, my theory still stands: if someone can verify they have the same rear end, this seems to be a viable solution keeping the factory gearing.

i'm sorry nymviper but if you flipped your car with the vdc off....its cuz you cant drive. i drove with my vdc off in my g35 coupe all the time kickin it sideways with no issues. and even if your vdc was ON and one of your tires was low enough to activate the system (due to big diff in overall tire diameter) it would work as intended.

Ok cats boasting about driving with no VDC turned on. How about this? I'm 42, NONE of the cars I ever drove until 2000+ had ANY sort of VDC or TCS. LOL Try driving a turbo Regal (not a GNX but not far off) in the 1980's, in the rain, no VDC, no ABS, no nothing. Now try driving it in snow (I'm from the south and the east before moving to CA). I guess learning to drive on primitive cars makes me a better driver than you younger generation that have always had VDC etc.... in reality, it surely does cause we had to control cars with our feet and hands alone. Modern cars have controls to save your ass for everything.

not all of are dumb enough to drive a Buick.. :innoutrofl2:

Its the same as all the honda kids, and the drifting guys. There is no traction control what so ever.. So its the same thing, different era. You dont get things like that til you buy a luxo car which most people cant afford. So on a non ass hat note.. I dont know where you are coming from on that.

But I guess the people who drive in ALMS aren't man enough cause they have traction control aids. Fuel trim, and cut outs and minimal abs. And yes you can say the older cars didnt have them.. all while that is true, cars have gotten a lot faster, and so did the drivers.

Its the chicken or the egg. Back in your day, there was no cell phones, or texting, very minimal distractions. With the growth of technology we have it. There are some people you swore should have taken the bus cause they would want to do everything else but drive the car they are in. So, with that we demand cars to be safer. If we didnt have those things, we wouldnt need 20 air bags, blind spot detectors, are you awake enough to drive alerts, and brake aid if you are not paying attention.

People would much rather talk about back in my day we had to walk up hill both ways. Before your day, there was horses with wooden wagons. And the people talking down on buick regals with no traction control. Its all relative.

I am 30 years old. I have seen most of the major transitions in life that got us where we are today. I still hate it when I see fools walking around or always having their head down in their phone passing life by cause they need to let everyone know whats going on.. yet missing the enjoyment of actually being in the moment. And yet when I was a kid, we dreamed about stuff that we have today.

So they made a button to help us reflect on our younger days. Its called Traction Control Off:biggthumpup:

:slap:
not all of are dumb enough to drive a Buick..

I never had a Buick either, my friends mom did, and anytime we went anywhere, we took her car, and I drove it. And BTW the Regal Turbo (T-Type) was a badass car, 1 notch down from the GNX.

The main reference I was making was people boasting about how great they can drive with TCS off (see posts above) which I found pretty rude. I drove for nearly 20 years before I ever had a car with any sort of electronic aids cause I always, and still pretty much do, have older used cars that I could afford to just buy without financing. And for nearly 30 years, I've always driven fast, and in my sorta-low VIP car, I still drive fast, rain, shine, whatever, I just love to drive.

so i'm boasting cuz i drove my g35 with vdc off most of the time? and i didnt say i was "great" at drivin cuz i turned it off. i'm just a good and smart driver period...maybe cuz i learned how to drive on cars that had no technology to them? lol

t-types are cool. my old shop foreman had a gnx and my old tech teacher has a t-type that he's completely restoring.

i've always had older, cheaper cars during my driving days up until i bought my g35 3 years ago....and all of them had no sort of traction control....maybe thats why i pity the other young and dumb drivers of today's luxury cars whether they be new or used....cuz they still manage to trash them :pat:

i have no idea where to find the numbers on the diff. i know we can take pictures until we're blue in the face, but that won't tell if it will fit or not. anyway to get a hold of a spare JDM/Australia rear end? that'd be easiest.

and also, does yours have VDC like the US models? that's my only worry is that the LSD will monkey with the VDC electronics.

Why would it make a difference? Its no different between a g35 with and without vlsd....vdc only disables engine output and works with abs to apply brakes in the necessary corners to keep the car on track.

My car has also VDC.

I agree with lowlyfey34, it doesn't has anything to do with the diff.

the 03 m has a 3.133 r200 2-pinion rear end
the 04 g35 6mt has a 3.538 r200v lsd rear end
the 04 g35 5at has an optional 3.357 r200v lsd rear end but most have the 2-pinion

That is correct, I have a 2004 6MT G35 with VLSD 3.5

Why does my car spin both tires like this with no LSD? I though with no LSD only 1 wheel would spin, like I've seen countless other cars do. In this pic it appears my left wheel spun a little less, but I've done it before and had the opposite result where the left strip was darker or longer than the right stripe. I don't get it. Maybe the previous owner messed w/ it more than I know about. It did have EBC rotors and pads when I got it, but that was it. It was a Japanese family and they were moving back to Japan. Forum image

Keep in mind, I don't make a habit of this, I want my tires to last as long as poss w/ -6.5º camber, but I wanted to know why / how this happens. This was a "baby" spin, just put it in 1, VDSC off, and floor it for about 1 second or so

In an open different you'll still get marks like that because the power transfers side to side they just don't lock together like an LSD

VDC/TCS is cheaper than a mechanical LSD. VDC is based on the ABS system so adding a few more programming and electronics isn't too difficult.
