Problems with installing 97-01 Infiniti Q45 Megan Racing v2.0 coilovers with spindles
Ordered the Megan coilovers with spindles and tried putting it on my 1999 Infiniti Q45t
Touring today:
http://www.meganracing.com/products/product_detail.asp?prodid=1205&catid=30
Turns out the bearing where it bolts up is too short, not allowing the knotched washer to sit flush. Installer said this is dangerous as the bolt can come off, causing the whole bearing & wheel to come off. My question is: is anyone else running Megan v2.0 coilovers? And, how did you get the knotched washer/spacer piece to fit or did you crank the shit out of the bolt? Again, my installer advised he wouldn't install it that way for liability purposes. Here are some pics:
Factory/OEM: (longer)
Megans: (shorter)

sorry I should clarify; the Megan's are too short to accommodate the knotched locknut washer (#5) washer; the stocks are longer and sits flulshed without problems. installer advised the only way it'll work is if you don't run the washer but if you do, you risk the entire assembly coming apart at high speeds when and if the 32mm bolt comes off over time...
basically the megan's are too short.

From what I've seen that washer does not sit on the notch when the oems come off anyway. The difference in length is because of the difference between touring and non-touring. The coilovers are based on non-touring. I've sold k a good amount of BC (same manufacturer) with no problems. You'll need a spacer for stock touring wheels.

buy one from you? I have

oh i gotchya. Well as long as there is a spot for the spindle nut to be hammered in to keep it from rotating it should be good.

Consider Loctite Blue on that nut as well. I tend to Loctite everything these days just to play it safe. If you are still concerned try Loctite red, tho when you have to remove that bolt you're going to need a very long breaker bar as a nut that size with Loctite will be several hundred ft-lbs of breaking torque.

I just put my megans on and there were no washer. Just a 32mm nut straight onto tbe bearing.

jb weld.
edit: Actually if it is a big concern. take a paint pen and mark the nut and the spindle end. Drive a lot, check and see if its still on point. if not.. then raise a concern. But it would be something I check often on oil changes. Since oil change shouldnt just be dropping and filling oil. I check bearings, bushings, misc leaks and so on.

i spoke to a customer of mine (a dealership tech) and he installed without the washer. i will probably remove it in the future as well. the fact is the washer will not prevent the hub from falling off and does nothing to prevent the nut from loosening (that is the job of the indented nut as kouki mentioned). i was referring to a wheel spacer, since the shorter spindle causes the factory touring wheels to rub on the coilover.

You are a gentleman and a scholar.
Just so I am clear, it's perfectly safe to install without the knotched washer?
If so, I'm headed back to have the coils installed ASAP... thanks so much for the help everyone

I am of the
opinion that it is OK to install without the washer, however I can definitely understand a shop not wanting to be liable. Proceed at your own risk.
I believe the issue is because of difference from US to JDM spec cars. When I received the first BC set there was also a difference in the caliper mounting holes.

@floridags hey were you able to install safely and correctly? I have the same year and model and was researching the v2.0 coilover set. any insight and info would be great!

Reviving from the dead!
So, I'm under the impression that the tourings came with the notched washer and the based came with no notched washer? As Blitz stated, he just had the nut bolt straight onto the bearing, and I believe his Q wasn't a touring. Reason is that I bought a set of Megans that have touring spindles(I'm pretty sure that's what the seller said), and I was wondering if I'd have any issues with my base model.
Is this the reason Megans with spindles do not work on tourings?
