'95 Q45 OG/RE Build Thread

So... the President project has been given long term "it'll be done when it's done" status, the UCF10 has become an organ donor, the daily Titan got up close and personal with a freeway divider at 50-60MPH, and the once-Jeeus-owned-now-mine UCF20 was just a little too far out to make drivable in time; so I bought another old ass car. I'm pleased to say that I got back into my favorite platform, the G50, this time in post MC flavor. The car was purchased where cars like these are purchased, at the local scumbag cash lot (the owner was actually pretty cool) but was in unusually minty condition. Not to say it doesn't have it's issues; the car was advertised at 106K, but I eventually figured out the odometer was stopped and had been for thhe last 10 years (covered by buy back but I'm gonna keep it anyway). Also, the paint needs some resoration, there are an unusual amount of door dings on the passenger side, some typical 94+ door panel wear, a couple interior pieces that need replacing, weak battery (had to have it ordered) that i suspect is causing rough start/idle, a dead knock sensor that is robbing power, possibly bad motor/tranny mounts, the front end is a little twitchy, and the CD changer doesn't work (I hate the radio) but all that being said it is a very solid, strong, and complete car. Take a look (Instagram hipster pic):

So first things first I'm going to run through it and do the typical new car stuff. New fluids, plugs, tranny cooler, PDR, detail, tint, etc. Then I will either swap the JIC off my President or order some custom BCs (third link swap most likely required). Gonna hit her with some Battle Version arms and probably a bunch of ES PU bushings that are laying around since I have decided to go all spherical on the '90. I also have a Z32/33 OEM BBK that I'm going to powdercoat and install. Got a couple options on wheels, not sure yet, but the Impul mesh I had on the previous G50 will be out of the running because of the brakes. I may even do some audio on this one. That's pretty much as far as I plan to go on this one. Simple, clean street car that I can enjoy anytime, anywhere.

i didn't actually curb em, but i caught a bad angle on a stupid step up that was taller than the tire. first time i was hollerin' at fat bitches back in '99-'00. other than that i've never curbed an aftermarket wheel iirc.

Why not just finish up your current projects? No point of having 3 unfinished cars. I think if u spend less time on the forums and focus on one project at a time, it'll get done.. Just stay motivated and don't get side tracked

i bought this car because i hydroplaned my daily into the wall goin' about 60mph. believe me i was not looking for another project, this one was out of neccesity. the '90 president is on a no rush schedule (i predict it will take a few years to complete), the '92 ls has turned into a partout (because i didn't want more than one project any more), and the '98 ls was just a little too incomplete for me to afford putting it together in time. i plan on getting rid of everything except the president by the end of the year, and buying a 95-97 ls for the permanent collection. that being said this car, in this condition, was a rare find and if i get stuck with it i won't be mad about it.

truth be told, i'm lucky if i can put aside one day a week to work on my own cars.

got in the car this morning and shifted into "D", not sure if it was the wheels or not but it took a minute to move and scared the shit out of me. $200 later and the transmission is flushed and filled with BG additives. next "mod" will be trans. cooler and a new filter.

honestly, i only plan to own this car a couple months (until my truck is repaired). it's kind of a dual purpose vehicle: 1) i needed a car to drive 2) i want to test the market for selling "og built" (undercar) cars locally. all that is planned is suspension, brakes, wheels (different wheels, these aint goin' no where), and resotration/maintenance. i want to leave cosmetic mods to the next owner. i have a lot of spare parts for this car so i can load it up cheaper than someone can build it for themselves. i also know what points to hit with what so there's no trial and error. just a matter of finding the right buyer.

Car is buffed. Shes starting to look good. Next up is spark plugs and an induction system clean/flush. Also gonna do the in pan transmission filter since I have one I never used. Gonna start pulling arms off the '90 and blasting/painting/pressing bushings into them as sson as my replacment gun gets here. The plan is to use the OEM LCAs, FUCA, and rear knuckles pressed with an ES kit sitting around. Tension, traction, toe, and RUCA will be Battle Version. Brakes will be powdercoated Z32 calipers w/ Z33 track front rotor. PDR and tint also on the list. May paint parts of the grill.

1/16s going for redrill. spark plugs and bg induction service in the next couple days. may end up going spl over battle version on this one simply because i have the spl stuff in stock. still need to bust down the '90 suspension and get to work on that. been rollin' hood status for over a month, needs lows. also thinking about sound on this one. i have a bunch of stuff but most of it is too much for this car, still have the major components of a car pc so may do that. car pc -> onkyo sound card -> pg line driver -> pg xs 6 channel -> hybrid audio. seems legit.

2 spark plugs replaced. i bought all 8 but the ones in there looked really new, but 2 were the wrong model. also added the d/c stillen pop charger i had on the '90. they say it actually loses power because it pulls hot air from the bay, but i say "who gives a fuck". sounds so badass at 3k+ rpm. now i'm positive about straight pipes. also dropped the carlssons off for redrill.

bg induction system flush done. looks like it got rid of my highway cel, which i attributed to the egr system. after some misbudgeting and with wekfest getting closer every day i have decided to ride jic/spl for now. hopefully i can come up with the funds in october to do custom bc coils with bv arms. trying to keep my investment down as much as possible.

it came after tape decks. remember? lol.

still doing lame ass maintenance shit, getting ready for the drive to wekfest. belts replaced, trans mount ordered, and trans pan filter change paid for. also ordered an air regulator, replacment gun, and infrared thermometer for my blast/powdercoat setup. gonna go ahead and install z33 calipers w/ z34 track front rotors and brackets. need to order an spl ruca but money is tight. then i'm gonna just swap the third link, install coils, and align; i'll take care of the bushings as i can. wheels are still out for redrill, waiting on me to drop off a pbm spacer so that i can have a custom hub ring made. also ordered some gold muteki sr48 lugs and got my fingers crossed on a nardi gara 4 all wood wheel.

put stocks back on, went to watch game, lost $200, and my car broke down. towed it to my mechanic this morning. hope it's the alternator (or something cheaper). it's like this car doesn't want to go to wekfest.

my wheels are back, but i can't go pick them up. also waiting on tire.

breaking news: i have a leaking injector which has filled the valley of the motor with fuel. lucky it didn't burn to the ground (i drive ~100 miles a day). today just got expensive. gonna go ahead and replace the bad knock sensor, hope most of the hoses survive, and cross my fingers that all the injectors are good and it's just a leaky o-ring. add to that the remanfactured alternator and the replacment tire. i <3 g50.

*edit - found a shoddy repair that was causing the fuel leak. lose hose clamp. sigh.

breaking news: i have a leaking injector which has filled the valley of the motor with fuel. lucky it didn't burn to the ground (i drive ~100 miles a day). today just got expensive. gonna go ahead and replace the bad knock sensor, hope most of the hoses survive, and cross my fingers that all the injectors are good and it's just a leaky o-ring. add to that the remanfactured alternator and the replacment tire. i <3 g50.

yeah. there was a 3-4" section of fuel line that had been replaced and the clamps were hella loose. i'm still going to have to take the manifold off to replace the knock sensor, that likely died from being drowned in fuel, but i can wait until next month.

it probably won't look much different than this when it's complete, or at least when i'm done with it. i decided to keep the sessions exhaust for the president project, so this one will get some tips and have the mufflers/resonators removed. got a couple more resoration items i didn't get to. other than that brakes and i'm going to try and get the fitment a couple mm tighter.

something along these lines. no bumpers, exhaust, wheels, headlights, etc. got backburnered when i totaled my truck.

updates to the q include updated oem cd changer and bad ass re sticker. had to tigthen up my suspension a couple times and bead seal a tire. next up will be the z32 brakes and modified oem exhaust (resonator delete, muffler delete, dual truck tips).

blew out a tire on the way to court. life's too short, fuck it...

so ordered a replacment since no one wants to stock nankangs any more. in the process of putting my stocks on i rounded off the lugnut on the pbm spacers. in their defense they state very clearly not to use an impact, but aint nobody got time for that so i ordered some nismo extended studs. gonna have some custom spacers made this time around.

Forum image

was hoping to get at least 1 or 2 decent pics from wekfest, but apparently no one noticed. oh well... i like my shit, which is why i took a pic.

so since this pic i titghtened up front fitment a little, changed the cd changer for the updated version, and ordered a replacment antenna. gotta take it back to best buy cause they did some dumb shit when thhey installed my alarm. transmission is leaking at one of the sensors so it's in the shop now. also gonna replace my rlca w/ the energy suspensioln/moonface rca one i have and rebuild the flca with new balljoints (hope the fit) and es bushings on the inner point. still need to drop the brakes off for refinishing.

so the car has been down since the tire blew out. i was having transmission issues and was planning a swap, but figured out i was leaking fluid out of the turbine revolution sensor. fixing it requires dropping the transmission so i decided to go ahead and replace the rear main seal at the same time. if my money was right i'd replace the tranny now, but i don't have 3 stacks or the time to spare. tire, nismo studs, and used antenna came in. haven't ordered the spacers yet.

she's back in action. next up is antenna, fog light, extended studs/spacers to replace bolt ons, energy suspension/moog rebuilt f/r lca. on the to do list is lighting, audio, and suspension revamp (going to bc/bv to reduce investment presale). other maintenance items on the list include axles and steering rack. the wheels are now for sale if anyone is interested.

*edit - thought i'd mention that i tried the griot's garage spray on car wash when i found out it was available at some advanced auto parts stores now. afterwards i took this pic. pretty impressive. i don't know that i would wash a filthy car with it, but i did wipe a couple dusty cars down with good results.

do it! just know that it takes some dedication to build one of these cars. instead of spending cash on mods you'll be spending a ton on maintenance. my first one i spent $6k+ on the motor before i really drove the car. this one i took a "fix it when it brakes" approach and have spent maybe half that on maintenance already. when i fix the knock sensor it will easily go over the previous car. it may not look like much but this is already a 12-15k build; and that's with some hot deals, wholesale on parts, and a fleet rate with my mechanic.

wont be dissapointed. trust me! The only thing i wish they had was a heavy duty compound to take out heavy scratches, or after wet sanding. But these products dude.. haha the paint sealant, and show car glaze are amazing to take out swirls after washing on a black car. I did the 1 through 4 process on my Q with their buffer and and then used the sealant afterwards.. it made me wish my whole car was painted

installed nardi/splash hub. haven't taken the time to figure out the horn yet. other than that i've just been driving it. i started to go in on the impul r1, i decided i really hate dailying rubberbands, but they are going to a new home as soon as they are complete in a trade for some wheels i should have never got rid of in the first place. carlssons are for sale. next on the plate is going to be z32/z33 brake setup w/ red wrinkle finish calipers. also need to knock out the steering rack and drive axles. money is slow right now.

so i was all hyped up to do some crazy shit (again), but with the new acquisition i'm gonna go back to the original plan (again). took her to the shop tonight, and will get started soon. new plan:

1) remove carlssons
2) cut off damaged lug nut, replace wheel stud(s), remove pbm spacers
3) wrap up impul r1 refinish
4) wrap up z32/z33 brake upgrade
5) aquire cusco fuca
6) replace f/r lca w/ rebuilt/upgraded parts
7) align @ 6-7* (guesstimated) camber f/r
8) size for new spacers
9) replace axles and rack

i think legit is stretching it a bit. i've used some of the ball joints/fuca when there weren't any other options. it's kind of parts house quality custom stuff. it's aight. on the other hand eibach and ichiba rebadge their parts so it can't be too bad. i've never had any problems.

Yeah for an off the shelf go to parts place it isnt bad. It gets the job done. And even "name" brand parts use noisey heim joints where i have had to buy nicer ones from some where else to use them. But! If you want better you end up going after higher rade race car manufactures that produce them and at that point it is so custom you have to do more to just get it to work; when most of the ones i used from them are bal joint replacements. I really liked the ones i used on the s2000 and made it a breeze to do. But doing it for a "look" only with no real performance behind doing it, spc is fine.

word. both brands i use use fk bearings. i always tell people to pay attention to the components the arm is made of; tubing, welding, and joints. that's where the difference is, but if you can't id it there's no telling. the designs are the same for the most part. hoping to lower the total investment and raise the comfort level of the car.

apparently i'm catching up on some bad karma cause i can't win for shit these days. the sts-v got hit, so the q is going back on daily status. i had it on jackstands for round 2, which started off with removing a stripped lugnut (and destroying a pbm spacer, a rotor, and 5 lugs in the process). luckily lugs are cheap, i have a spare rotor, and i ordered some 25mm bolt ons so that my stocks will clear my tie rod ends. also have to replace a fitting on the external tranny filter that i broke being careless. i'd really like to at least get my wheels/brakes finished up, but any money will be going to the cadi for a minute.

this will be the third not at fault accident on the policy in a year, so rates will go up and there's a possibility of getting dropped. that and the depreciation of value you mentioned.

i'm estimating 4-5k worth of damage, but am budgeting closer to 6-7k to take care of additional some stuff while it's down.

ahhh I see I am sure that bumper is like $1500 or something ridiculous haha
I just priced conservatively the price to paint a bumper/fender but yea this isn't some Honda Accord so I really didn't factor at all the insurance value for r&i

anyways hope you come out on top and his/her insurance handles the check

surprisingly the bumper isn't too bad. like $600 i think. less than a 15 year old lexus bumper. lol. i may switch it up to the non-v front end though. you can check out the plan in my sts thread. thanks for the well wishes.

A bunch of Eibach parts are actually made by SPC or vice versa. I've received SPC parts in Eibach boxes in the past lol
