My first VIP.. Y50 Sport

So i finally got a Y50... but its for my wife. She is definitely down w/ making it a lil more fancy. I've been creeping on this forum for quite some time now.. and just finally glad i have a vip platform car to start with.

Been doing this for some time.. Just got out of drifting so the money savings is substantial.

We picked up a used 06 m35 sport...

The next day we bought the car we spent time doing a full detail

Even went ahead removed all the underhood plastics and cleaner it up underneath as well..
it was pretty dirty.. Also installed a Z tube to clean up the intake tract a ltitle.

Interior is in great condition with no rips or tears or cracks..

Our plans for the car in the near term at least
is to clean up the underside of car get rid of any dirt/debris
Get some Hid's for fogs and change out the headlights and all the bulbs to led.
Wanting to go w/ air suspension 
and figuring out some wheels.

Just gonna take our time and have fun with it..

Anyways.. we got the car tinted so far..
5% rear and 50% front. In tracy its always 100+ so tint is a must.

Also just ordered a Fujitsubo exhaust for the car as well. Wifey wanted quad tip but at the price we got it for it was a steal...

Once we figure out what aero we are going with we will then get some quad tips welded on probably. 


Next order of business is suspension..

I was looking into picking up some k-sport air bags/coils and then using accuair e-level air management. Total price is about 3800 but since its my wife's daily wanted to make sure it was set up right w/ auto level. 

One final thing, has anyone done 20x11 +0 and 20x12 +0 on these cars without massive fender mods?

RM450GT is on ksport with accuair and Im on D2 with accuair, pretty much the same thing from what Ive heard just different labeling and support. Anyway it's a nice ride IMO with the adjustability. If you look up fluid motorunion they put 20x11f and 12r but did some fender work, they also didnt mention specs so you might need to pull out the measuring tape and see what'll fit to your liking.

are you guys using the k-sport management box.. or did you dump it and go w/ the accuair e-level air management setup.
wanting to see if i should just get the k-sport complete kit then opt for the accuair later as the ksport tank looks quite a bit better polished than the anadized tank of the accuair.

Also.. i will probably just test fit my z wheels whenever i get them on this car to see how bad it really is..

I bought the d2 basic kit and then used the VU4 from accuair along with accuar's e leveling kit (contrller only tab). Also added the wireless fob from accuair too.  Some people have upgraded the 1/4 lines to 3/8 but I feel that the smaller lines are fast enough for me and left em alone. All I needed was the adapters from acuair to plug in to the VU4.

do you guys have any pictures of how you had mounted your ride level sensors?

so i guess i had another question..
for styling wise.. we wanted to do interior access like curtians and pillows.. however i saw the thread w/ the jp curtain fading and that was pretty bad.. was wondering is it a no no to mix and match.. ie... jp fusa and such w/ belleza neck pillows and jp pillows w/ say garson curtains? or would it be best to go same company for everything?

so exhaust came and we threw it on there right quick.. pretty quiet.. definitely a plus.. just gives it a lil z/g tone to the exhaust. not overstated at all..

It doesnt have that much range of motion, compared to the fronts. I don't know if this would be the case w/ the airrex

I have the same issue in the rear of my M45 but it hasnt been a problem

sometimes i just get paranoid.. i'd always like to be 4x4 when trying to get to certain places.. There are some messed up speed bumps and the y50 has pretty long front and rear overhands as well... 

RM450gt. i looked around but couldnt tell what air setup you are using?

with the D2 bags I can go above OEM height and thats with the coilover part set low, so if you increased the length im sure it could go 8x8 instead of 4x4 if you really wanted to lol

so if i raise the coils any more.. i can't get it to tuck rear wheel.. i tried raising the rear 1/2 inch and lost the tuckage.. it was a sad day...

Just picked up some 350z Kinetix High flow cats and a 350z HR y-pipe..
We shall see how it goes as i am unsure if it will even fit.. Will have wife install em tomorrow so hope it works out

Today we threw on a HR y-pipe and Kinetix High Flow Cats.
Sound overall is a lil throatier but i am on the fence w/ the added rasp from the cats.

Stock Vs HFC - Cats were a lil shorter but the rubber bushings in exhaust had no issues sucking up the gap (we shall see long term if there are any issues w/ cracking)

yeah its nice having the wifey help out.. She into cars too and this is technically her build lol..

also RM... are you using the ksport box or did you swap out to VU4?

so after sitting on ass for a while. we went w/ a used kit from one of our forum members.. Remind me to never buy used again, it was a huge pain in the ass. Having to replace fittings and picking up a new tank and other things.

Dont go smaller than 20"s IMO and if you want step lip 21"s look good. Are you looking for multispoke, concave, etc?

i think i am going to stick w/ 20's as tire sizes are easier to come by... in regards to wheels, this is the wifes car. We are looking at three different setups.

I guess the other question is are my offset choices too conservative?

I have 20x10 +5 front and 20x10 0 -/+ rear and -3.5f -4r camber daily with very small amount of body work. And when I say small I mean like $800 bucks worth lol.

You can see I have a small stretch and the "duck lip"  style roll and pull. I rolled it in the garage and had the shop repaint and reseal the outer and inner fender back together. Although it didnt need to be repainted per say I just went ahead and had them respray it. Oh yea lol im static btw so with air... You can pull this off EASY

with those specs you will be pretty flush and probly wont even need body work if you use the right stretch and some camber. out of those 3 choices i like the first ones, the second set needs BBK behined em and third set has been done before with your color car.

my concern w/ going agressive isnt the fender portion its the rear bumper.. sumyungm35 on your car. the rear bumper would touch the tire if u went lower. i am trying to tuck wheel when aired out. so i don't know if even going massive camber will help with that situation.

I was going to repaint car completely a different color. and the budget w/ minor body work was going to be approx 5k..

If you google smitty's m45 and see the pics when he had junction produce rims, he ran 20x10.5+20 and was able to air out all the way if I'm not mistaken.

Naw it doesn't. When I jack the front up to tuck the rear tire as much as i can... (the bumper almost on the ground with 11-1 on the wheel tucked 11-1 like numbers on a clock) It doesn't hit. If you remove the bumper it has a mounting point that can be moved out just a tad to make enough room. That with shaving a little off the bumper (where the bumper meets the fender which can't be seen) makes plenty of room. There is a tab that holds the bumper to the fender that was removed and the bolt was relocated closer to the tail light or back  away from the fender. It's a pain and takes some time to look correct but well worth it honestly.

Fronts seem quite doable.. but rears are definitely going to be quite a bit harder.

nice wheels! i heard that g35/350z suspension parts were interchangeable and i also heard it was g37 suspension parts that were interchangeable. can someone confirm which it is? i wanted to buy spl camber arms for m35

G37 front camber arms do not fit. They are too long and hit the frame/inner fender well when riding low. Went back to stock due to the annoying banging sound. Read that alot of g37 guys switched to g35 sedan front upper control arms because they are shorter.  Not sure how much adjustment they offer tho. The rear g37 camber arms fit. The rear g35 toe links fit also. I assume g35 rear camber arms will fit as long as they are the designed with the bend (spl/ichiba). I was told that straight ones (megan) wont fit, but have never confirmed this.

have you personally used SPL g37 rear camber arms on a m35? how sure are you on the spl g35 rear camber arms fittings on m35's?

actually, I've only use ICHIBA and MEGAN arms. I believe SPC & ICHIBA arms are the same.

In my previous post, i meant to say SPC/ICHIBA not SPL.

From my experience, I can confirm:

ICHIBA G37 FRONT upper control arms fit M35. 
ICHIBA G37 REAR camber arms fit M35.
MEGAN REAR lower links fit M35.

I was told that G35 front upper control arms would not fit, but I assume since G37 guys are using G35 front upper control arms, they would fit, but I have not confirmed this.
I was also told that MEGAN G35 rear camber arms would not fit, but I assume it was because the straight arm design as opposed to the bent arm design of SPC/ICHIBA, but again, I have not confirmed this.

I assume SPL stuff  for G35 might fit due to thier bent arm design, but have not confirmed this...

so... for now the kit wont be coming in for like 2 months maybe and i really can't stand the look of it rolling stock.

i have another set of wheels that i can throw on there as temps till then..

20x10 -10 245/35/20

should i try and pull it...

body shop is making widebody f/r and will be repainting car so.... yeah.... should i try and pull the rear to make it fit?

all my temp wheels are pretty aggressive and i dont know if i wanna risk screwing the fender up.. just cant look at the car for a few months i guess. the front doesnt seem too terribly bad to make fit. But it might be worth it for me. im still up in the air.

thanks... we are just patiently waiting on the kit.. body shop is lined up to go ape shit on the fenders and i was looking online and saw something that might be pretty neat.

crazy.. i think im gonna go w/ the ls exhaust finisher... going k-break just too much work. and to risky if it wont look right cause i've been looking at some vip builds through the web and some of the weld on tips were very poorly executed.

Yea I completely messed mine up... Bent the hell out of them getting out of a friends driveway... I think im gonna wait for a min and order a whole new exhaust lol

yeah it sucks that there arent any good exhausts available in the us w/ quad tips.. 
only one i've seen is megan but aint got no time for that crap.

Also as a side note.. just picked up some Akebono calipers and stoptech rotors..
will need to run the spacer action for now =)

we ended up having the bracket for the rear bag welded w/ a nut on the back to ensure that when we jack up the car, the bag doesnt move.

I finally broke down and bought a 5 gallon polished tank cause it would save space w/o losing too much air storage

For the rear e-level sensor we ended up making a bracket that is sandwiched between the sway bar bracket on the upper control arm

Here is the trunk setup. we put it on a board and used the existing spare tire holder to hold all the pieces in place. Ran a 2 gauge power line from battery to a distributiion block then had it go to a pair of 30 amp relays.

so would two 3 gallon tanks not fit in the spare tire well?

i wasnt able to get both tanks + ecu / valves compressors inside spare tire well. also the 3 gallon was slightly bigger height wise than the top of the floor. so i thought going 1 tank would make it a little cleaner without losing trunk space.

Wheels will be here next weekend and fenders can be made. Going to radius fender and go quite a bit wider. Now we are just trying to finalize the full color scheme. 

Also grabbed a new VU4 and I-level, My vu4 was sticking and was having issues.. will probably need to redo the tank setup and throw in some watertraps before the vu4 and at the compressor outlet before the tank.

Sooo we are going pretty agressive in terms of size and offset..

everything sort of went out of the window in terms of a conservative setup. we are now shooting for some pretty agressive fitment w/ minimal camber. Widebody will be flaring out the bumpers / doors / sideskirts to make it look proper.

the quarters/ fenders / bumpers / skirts are all getting redo to accomodate the wheels.

also removing the factory body line as that was one of the thing i really do not like about them .

So it sounds like your doing fender flares and not a full widebody

Had a baby, car took back seat. Dropped my car off 3 months ago to 1 body shop. They did nothing so it fucked up my plans pretty bad.

Took it to another shop and they are making it happen.

Coming together...wth did the shop do for 3 months?!?

the first body shop did absolutely nothing and pretty much fucked me.. the new baby kept me busy and i couldnt do much about it.. but now i am spending more time and hounding the new body shop to make sure shit gets done right and proper. the widening of the body will begin at the front of the rear door to try and give it a more seamless flare. the rear bumper will need to get widened a bit and we are working on figuring out how to make it look right w/ the k-break bumper mouldings

that's awful...glad to hear things are on track now though

yup, glad its on track, just want the damn car done and back... but i guess it was partially my fault cause i couldnt hound them enough. it is what it is and life goes on eh.

Maybe it's the pic but the bottom of the rear door and side skirt look some-what funny

that was before the body shop did any work on the side skirts...
the skirts were entended up to meet the rear fender better.

Car is pretty much done and should be picking it up tomorrow.

Won't have enough time to do interior but that just means i won't be rushed into anything

never checked this one out before. a lot of progress in a year. i like how they did the widebody up top, very smooth, but i agree that they should have put in more work at the bottom.

yeah, they just finished up the metal work in that pic and just started test fitting the fiberglass bits. They extended the rear of the skirts similar to how the lexus rear's are like now.

The trip to sema was nice. met some cool people... Ended up losing a o2 plug on my high flows on hwy 5 on the way home and had to drive for like 3 hours w/ an exhaust leak. overall not bad at all

lol he has a ton of fender work if you read through the thread. you won't fit that on stock body.

I'm doing a widebody on mine as well

your best bet is to just figure out what fits stock w/ your car w/ just a roll then add a few inches and do the math. Cause what works for the y50 will probably not work right for the y34. Especially considering the y50 stock fails in terms of fitment

Just wanted to give an update. Wifey has been driving the car around like crazy.

Ended up getting new e-level sensors for the better accuracy and changes from the toggle switch to the touchpad.

Beautiful car. I have a tan leather interior. Have you tried Lexol? If you have really stubborn stains, this is gonna sound crazy but scrubbing bubbles work. Don't over do it though.
