What would you do? Opinions please...

OK I am getting cose to graduating college and moving out of my parents place and most likely buying my home/condo. My parents (well especially my mom) are against me getting a motorcycle...I can understand why. But since I will be leaving on my own, I can buy one and never tell them that I have one. What are your guy's opinions on this matter? Main reason why I want one, is so that I can commute to work during the summer, go on long rides to the mountains, and put less miles on the Q.

If I don't get a bike, that's the money I can spend on the Q and get it finished (exterior at least).

So once again...if you were given the same opportunity and same constraints (parents against it), would you get one?

Find a job....buy a house.....let yer finances level out then start spending money on toys. Owning a house is alot more expensive than you probably think.

1. You need to learn to make your own decisions:
If you decide against a bike because it is what your parents want, you will always be resentful to them. It is not their fault; It is in their nature to look out for you. It is possible that you agree with your parents, then in that case, you should decide against a bike, but at least it will be for your own reasons. 

2. Your parents need to learn you can make your own decisions:
If you decide to get a bike, you shouldn't need to hide it. Your parents need to understand that you can make your own decisions. The better you can explain your reasoning, the easier they will respect your ability to choose.

I agree on the expenses associated w/ owning your own place. But I would rather pay extra every month for a place that's mine...even if it's smaller than an apartment that I could rent. Because at the end of the day, the condo is mine.
I have no problem living w/ my parents for a while longer...they don't mind either, because they want me to save enough money to buy furniture, add to the downpayment, etc. Plus I will have a place to store the bike.

I wish I could tell my parents about the bike...my dad would be OK. He actually would like that idea because like someone mentioned...I can see for myself if I like it or not. My mom on the other hand is against it. I can see why. They are dangerous, people get stupid on those things, other cars don't see them very well...but the main reason is that I'm the only son/child, so that's probably why she's so overprotective.

I am pretty sure that I will get one...get it out of my system now while I'm still young and my reflexes are still there. Plus it will perevent me from drinking when I go out...can't drink and ride.

Was he hit by another car or was he trying to do something foolish and lost control?

I think the reason why bikes get such a bed rep and high injury/death numbers is because people do stupid things on them. One of my customers told me about a guy who decided to flip someone off on the freeway, then proceeded to pop a wheelie, lost control, fell, snapped his neck and died. This type of foolishness happens every day.

But I am scared about this...but knowing myself, I will ride the bike without trying to showoff and stay safe.

he was a new rider, and he wasnt even doing anything wrong, just was accelerating, and pushed it a little too hard, and the bike went out from under him. from what i hear, it's kind of common for riders to lose control the first time they really push the bike, he just got banged/scraped up pretty bad and decided he'd rather live on 4 wheels, than die on 2 haha.

yeah. But at least he knows that he doesn't want a bike. I don't want to have that in the back of my mind as i get older. Who knows maybe I will hate it and will never ride a bike again. But at least I will be able to close that door. I will take a class before actually riding one...they are extremely helpful.
