Pacific NW Y33 Daily

Been lurking for a while, figured I'd start a thread that can show my progress and allow me to ask questions! I am 20 years old and have been building/into drift cars since I got my license (basically a bunch of different 240s, a 510, stuff like that). This is my first VIP style car. It is a 1997 with BLACK interior! Super clean, I fell in love with it the first time i sat in it when my friend still owned it. Paint is in great condition too.

I traded my last S13 straight across to my friend for this Q45. When I got it, it had some suspension work done already. Since then I have ordered clear cima headlights, grand touring grill, and installed them all with a new hid setup. Sorry not too many pics right now! Any input is appreciated!

Yeah I really want to color match the bottom, but wheels are my next venture. I want to go much lower in the rear, a bit lower in front, and go down to 18s (these are 19s).

BUT FOR NOW the rear wheel bearing is what I am trying to figure out. Its totally fucked and the new one arrived in the mail, but I cant figure out to remove the hub from the knuckle on the rear. It appears as though the knuckle and the hub are one whole piece, which I find very hard to believe.

Have any of you replaced the rear wheel bearings on a Y33 before? If so please share with me any tips you have! Need help!

well the bad wheel bearing was quite a pain in the ass. the hub is pressed directly into the knuckle, not bolted on, so i had to remove the knuckle and take the whole assembly to a shop. then i found out the hub was bad as well, so took me even longer to find an oem hub in good condition... anyway, took care of that, replaced all break pads with Hawk HPS, and just recently got new wheels and an alignment! 19" vs-kf burning black 9.5J +14 10.5J +14

unfortunately my coilovers are now maxed out on all 4 corners :/ i would like to go about 3/4" lower in the front, and about 1.5" lower in the rear. will do for the time being. also test fitted my other rims for shits. i would love to try and fit these bad boys, but they are reserved for the drift car im building

Forum image

thanks for the compliments, anyone have any tips on getting coilovers to go lower? possibly a shorter spring? i want to avoid going with bags or a different suspension setup at this time, but if all else fails i will have to. i cant live with the ride height, still have lots of clearance.

megans. shorter shock body would be the correct solution. shorter springs, but it'll fuck with the preload.

exactly. cant remove collars because the actual shock body is hitting the bottom of the knuckle mount. i was worried about this as i had the same problem on other cars ive owned in the past with megan coilovers.

im considering shorter springs... would this cause the struts to blow sooner?

can you buy shorter BC shocks? i would assume the megan/BCs are very similar since they're made by BC

not sure if i could or not, but even if i could, i might as well sell the setup for something else at that point. not really sure what plans for this thing are now, probably daily it through the winter now that i am full time work/school... i will be spending the winter months on my ongoing drift car project, but ill start thinking about a new suspension setup. id like to stay with coilovers even though airbags would be pimpin!

vskfs werent really my first choice for this car, but i got them locally in ideal sizing. they are also burning black finish which is the only one i like. i think it matches the color of the car well.

its been raining so much i havent had a chance to wash it. finally gave it a good cleaning today for a couple quick pics. These show how lame megan coils are and how much more room i have to go in the future. please excuse the terrible fitment, i just got an alignment and im not going to play with it until i change out the suspension for something that can go lower...

I am just going to bite the bullet and buy a different suspension set up. There are ways to go about it as discussed previously in this thread, but I would prefer to just buy a brand new set up designed to go as low as I want. Ill be selling the Megans if anyone is interested. Great daily driver set up, I am just never satisfied unless my car is nearly impossible to drive lol.

sorry to hear the megans lack that low we all want! it's the same story with their UCF10/20 coils where the preloads need to be adjusted to be lower. go with BC and short shocks. talk to OG who is a great vendor!

Megans sold, new BC coils on. Rears need a bit of adjustment, fronts need a good amount of adjustment. Need to roll fenders more then get it realigned... I am basically happy with the car as is now. Might have the lower skirts/lip pieces paint matched later on down the line. Also considering trading it right now, I miss having a street drift car and getting into trouble lol I feel so grown up in this damn thing.. (accepting trade offers for FD RX7 btw!!!)
