w140 chrome grille trim

Okay, so I looked around a lot on the internet to try and find a cheaper solution to redoing my s500 grille which looks very outdated and plain.  I only found one thread with someone else doing this so I thought I should share this small project.  The S500 grille has only a couple horizontal chrome lines on it and in my opinion looks very dull.  One of the solutions is to get an s600 grille with more chrome lines, however the 600 grille did not haveenough lines for my taste and I didn't wanna spend the 150 bucks for a knock off 600 grille and have the difference not be a big one.  So... I bought some chrome trim from auto zone.. yes, the same stuff that people put all over there cars and make em look ricey.. I figure if I do it in small amounts, it wouldn't be too overwhelming. Anywho, here are some before and after pics of what it turned out like. I in fact like it a lot more than the 600 grille and for a 15$ mod, I can't go wrong...:shrug: ..let me know what you guys think

Awesome , man! would love to see it. when I did mine, I made them slightly longer, then, tucked em underneath the sides, then trimmed to fit with an exacto knife.. You'll see what I'm talking about when you look at it. If there's any gaps on the sides it looks kinda funny.  Best o luck! can't wait to see it

I think that the hood ornament looks very old fashioned and not to my taste at all. Anyways, for the people who don't like it, here's what I did. I first took apart the factory ornament, carefully do this as the part is spring loaded and will explode if not careful. next, to fill the hole that was left from the ornament, I couldn't find really anything that was a good fit and looked good at the same time so I decided to fabricate it myself. I know you can buy flat emblems on the [/FONT][/COLOR][URL="http://www.benzworld.org/forums/#"][FONT=inherit][COLOR=#009900][FONT=inherit][U]internet[/U][/FONT][/COLOR][IMG]http://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png[/IMG][/FONT][/URL][COLOR=#000000][FONT=verdana] but I hear that they do not sit flat. i think the oem flat badge would have looked better,  but this isn't bad.

thnx man, my factory ornament was really messed up anyways, was cracked on 2 sides of the star and would wobble on the highway.  I just did this to clean it up.  I'll prob get another one eventually, I'm kinda missing having the star on the front, but I figured in the meantime this will do..

I like the flat oem badges too, but I've heard they don't sit flat against the hood. I'm most likely going back to having an ornament up front but until I actually make the decision, I just wanted to plug the hole.

Looking very nice with that Grille. I bought some chrome trim a while back and i tired doing this and it didnt turn out so well... was it a specific kind of trim? I still have a whole roll of it lol.

ya, not really sure which one I grabbed. it was a 1/4 in and the package said "3m tape" on it, so I was sold.  there were a couple different types but only one said 3m on it

ok ima take mine apart and take a look at it again. Did you remove the grille to make it easier to install and cut?

I took it apart to make removing the old slats easier. Then put it back together before sticking the new one on. Also, I tucked the trim pieces under the outer trim before cutting them down so they line up perfectly. The angle of all of them are slightly different, but I took my time, n then came out even with each other..
