What do you guys think about Mix/Matching Aero?

I'm curious what you guys think about Mix/Matching Aero parts on a VIP project. I know people do it for other styles, but is this "acceptable" for the VIP style? Example, using a front bumper from one company, sideskirts from another, etc,etc. When I look through some of these Japanese Websites or Magazines I get the feeling that a part of the VIP style is to keep the parts matching, some people even go all the way with matching accessories. I figgure as long as the lines of the Aero parts are similar it should be fine, so I'm planning to do a Mix/Match setup. But I'm wondering if some of the hardcore VIP enthusiasts might view that as poor taste. I'll probably do it my way regardless but I'm just curious what others would think.

i don't think it would be wrong. as long as the kit seems to flow with the car i don't see why not. but if you have a clean front bumper with aggresive side skirts and a clean rear. it will look out of whack! other than that, i don't see why it can't be fair game.

Mixing and matching can work, but usually kits are designed to fit in as one set...it's more because it just looks better usually, I think.

Is this the same guy that used to drift a camaro?

mix/matching is technique, not a style.

if you plan on using replacement panels from more than one manufacturer/model without any modifications you are >not< "mix/matching."  you are just mixing.

mixing different body parts, in most cases, will result in a mis-match look.

vip emulates class, and style.  it is the tuning for the high-society.  expensive, large, luxury sedans with elaborate body, suspension, wheel, interior styling, are what we know as vip (definition should be discussed in another thread/section).

now if say you had a late trim q45, and wanted to get a kit for it.  you look and look and realize there really isn't much to choose from.  you see the sessions kit, and like that.  but they only make it for the president...

grafting the lower section of the sessions president front bumper to say a junction produce q45 late trim top could result in a very nice creation...  of course ONLY if you we able to mend the two and keep the shape/transitions consistent throughout the rest of the kit and car's body.

using components from different kits can be made to work, so long as adjustments are made to create consistency.

anything that abrupts the body's styling is usually considered a downgrade.

and if you are buying mis-matched parts because you cannot afford to get a complete kit, i would put yourself in check.

if its the acceptance of your peers you seek, in your vip styling exploit, you may want to just consider getting a cressida, couple cheap body parts from japan, and drift out of the vip scene, gaining acceptance from many of the other drifters "running mix/matched."

Yeah this is one of the guys from Hawaii that drifts Camaros, soon I hope to be drifting at Cali events in the Camaroku, but it depends on what happens with the local XD-1 events.

I appreciate the replies to my question here. I'm not looking to gain acceptance from anyone, I was just curious what hardcore VIP enthusiasts would think if they saw this. For me it just comes down to personal preferance in the sense that I like certain parts of certain kits, and dont like certain parts of other kits. But this is not going to be extreme like trying to fit parts from different cars or grafting one kit onto another. Its gonna be more along the lines of a UCF10 front bumper from company A matched with UCF10 sideskirts from company B, matching lines, etc,etc.

I'm not sure whats going on with drifters and the VIP style, I guess you guys are seeing a trend of some sort. My appreciation of the VIP style stems from my Sport Trucking days, long before I was into drifting. Someone busted out a VIP magazine at a truck cruise and that was it for me, I really liked the style. I just couldn't afford it at the time.

I thaught about mix/matching, but decided to keep looking...one kit out there, has to be perfect to your taste....and when you find it,go for it.
 
some do go further, sporting other goods from that maker on the car...
 
but nothing wrong with wearing just a clean kit from one company and lets say, wheels from another.

I mixed kits........ cause i like my mufflers. So to keep my mufflers and NOT have a HUGE square looking hole back there I went w/ Aimgain.  Once i figure out what dual tips I want to run then i can put my other rear bumper on, So until then this will do. 

I filled in the line that goes around the Aimgain bumper.

Not sure if they are your 'beach wheels' or not, but for some reason i kinda like them on your car :) 
 
The kit looks awesome too... Great example of mixing and matching IMO

Well from Oct to end of March have to use snow tires or get in trouble. This has been the most MILD winter in about 40yrs. Its still cold out side.:sad:

aint sure what to say, but normally i will flow with the line of the height from bottom.. like pic from {-_-} .. to me, i will make the rear skirt lower to flow the line from side and front :D

anyway that is a nice and clean ride ;)

Your right if you can find the right kit to mix......... so for now im not making anything cause I have the right rear bumper that I can use.  I  also have an extra front bumper just in case. :thumbsup:
