Curb them wheels...!

I laugh when people talk about how they'd hate to run stretched tires because they don't want to curb their wheels. Of course, there's nothing wrong with not liking how a stretched setup looks...that's a subjective opinion...but folks just teem of hypocrisy when the same guys post pics of cars from Japan with stretched tires in "post pics of your favorite XXXX car" threads. It's sorta like how people love posting pics of extremely low cars, and talk about how they want to go as low, but then when it comes down to it, they never follow through, and instead blame bad road conditions for their vacillation. 

While parking and trying to keep an eye out on some seedy-looking kids across the street the other day, I had a lapse of concentration and curbed one of my Ordens. Whoops. My initial reaction: to laugh my ass off. No one else's fault but my own. Very stupid move on my part, and what can ya do but laugh at yourself for being stupid and not paying attention. You gotta think of the scar as a reminder, to actually pay better attention at all times. And if you fuck up your wheel real bad... buy another wheel. The blow to your wallet is another reminder.

This should apply to all aspects of fixing up your car, including the car itself. People complain about putting on bodykits because they don't want to crack it or have it explode when they get into accidents. Hey, then drive carefully up driveways, and don't crash into other people! And if you do, and it's your fault, laugh at yourself, and buy another bodykit, or buy another car. 

That'd be the VIP thing to do, eh?

because when ur vip, you can afford to just blow up ur wallet with buying new wheels! ahah. post pictures of the ownage or ban.

Truth.   I went through a similar occurence with my first set of aftermarket wheels (17" BSA cheapos).   After curbing them, I felt so entirely stupid that Ive babied any set ever after.   Unlike you though, I had a very cheap lesson.   (the set was 500 new with tires).    I think thats one factor people getting into VIP, especially the budget ones never think of.  When doing this style, the chances of breaking something by being so low, or so stretched, or so whatever is high.   People dont equate that when they buy something, and realize they may have to do more maintenance fixups, or will have to be very delicate driving from then on.      Nonetheless, Im anxious to see pics Van.

I'm gonna need to learn how to drive once I get the summer wheels on the car. 

My wheel covers tell many stories of sliding into curbs, rushing to park at work, or trying to get closer to the curb than my friend.

ya know but honestly.
look at most VIP style cars over here, and alot of them have curb marks. Its not uncommon. ive been ran into a curb before with my Viennas when a truck wanted to pull over on me.

shit happens. but its still funny when people run into curbs all on their own.

I learned the hard way too pulling off from an unfamiliar place cut way too short and there you have it.

With my minitruck I wreck stuff for fun. I use to have pinch welds on the underside of the body, I drug those off in the first month. Now my rockers are all beat to crap from dragging.

I hear ya on curbing though. I know it's gonna happen, just have to shell out the  $$$ when it does and dont be a chump about it.

EVERY set of rims i've bought from japan has curbage. . . my buddies Kranze ERM's were FUCKED. . .  120mm lip with the whole edge rashed. . obviously there are lots without curbage.. But PLENTY of VIP rims on yahoo have minor curbage. . . . Seems a common thing. . .

(They on his comp). . Here are the [B]after[/B] pics. .  .We refinished them ourselves, the whole lip. .  they look pretty respectable now. . . . (polished them too) They were pretty bad.. with one lip actually bent. .note to self.. you CANNOT bend back forged racing rims. . lol. .it cracked.. but with the stretch we're running . that part of the rim doesn't even contact the tire.. so fuckit. . I started with a FILE, yes a fuckin huge ugly rough assed file. . took down the really bad parts. . then progressed to a finer file. . then . . . diff grits of sandpaper etc..  then polished. .Still gotta spray the sides of the spokes silver or something. . 


This pic you can see the curbage on the outer section of the lip facing you. .
You can see how deep some of the curbage was. . (And some leftover paint :sad: . . )

On the very bottom of this one you can see the section where I fixed (tried to ) the bent section. . (crescent wrench and a hammer DIRECTLY to the rim, cuz with a pce of wood it didn't do shit to the forged rim . . ) Its about 4 inches long. .

Elbow grease is how you make an ugly, mangled set of $4000 racing wheels (yes the C5C's are $1000 EACH) bought for $500 bling like a million bucks. . .

Yep, most secondhand wheels you buy in Japan have curbage on the rims. My Eurolines curiously came with curb rash on all 4 wheels, so before i mounted them i took them to a wheel repairer who machined and repolished all of the lips to make them look practically brand new...
 
Anyway I tend to park & drive pretty cautiously, but a little while back i found a 3" gash on the side of the wheel. The damage itself didnt annoy me that much, because i knew it could be fixed up... but the thing that annoyed me was that [i]i had no idea how i did it!![/i]. If i am going to spend money fixing/repairing my rims, i at least want to learn a lesson from it!
 
And yes, i have since fixed the rim but still none the wiser as to how it happened.

the same thing happen to me...curbed the ol' scara....but your right, you have to laugh it up. havn't curbed another since.:rolleyes: 
 
Also, shelled out $177 bucks for a new tire yesterday..(only 2 months later) the metal was starting to show on the inner part of the tire cuz of camber:dance:

yea, I feel you guys on just laughing it off when you curb a rim. 

But I have felt a little ill before went I bent the ever-loving fuck out of one of my AME Shallen CX's back when you couldn't even find them here in the states. Couldn't get it repaired either due to the double-wall construction of the lip face. Yea, sick in the stomach for a minute or two.

Lol, laughing off curbed wheels are just showing signs that you are delirious from the fact that your wallet is going to hurt from the cambered tires and curb rash fix.

Sorry for going OT but have you aligned your toe correctly? That looks fat as hell, but its probably less than 5 degrees, so going through tires that quickly can only mean one of 3 things:
Alignment is out
You are drifting more than driving
You do a crap load of kilometers...
 
I'm now on 5 months and at least 3000 miles on my rear wheels and they still look great (though i have flipped them recently to get some wear on the other side of the tire)... And going by the wear thats on there, my alignment is actually a bit out...

I'm ready to finally get my car alligned....I was puting it off cause I was waiting on spacers and to finally be happy with actual stance.:cool: 
 
fronts are 9+13 now and look absolutley sick....
 
so, will a normal allignment correct my toe??:confused: 
its ok to have some -camber,right...all I need to tell them is to make sure they both match, right?

I'mma take this to PM cos its not really related to OneTon's post - you need to ask for custom alignment settings cos their computer program will have a spit about the camber...

Some people got the point... that you gotta pay to play, and money should not be an issue if you want to play the VIP game. Not saying that you need an unlimited budget or anything, but it's all about playing within your means, and don't expect to have a nice VIP car if your intention is to cheap it out. Unfortunately, we know that with the influx of cheap drifters into VIP, we'll see people jack up their VIP cars in some way, and not fix it just like they did with their corollas and 240s... and try to get off saying "oh, it's battle damage" or "yah that just proves that i drive my car hard on the touge!" VIP kinda doesn't work that way...

BTW, toyota multi links aren't as well-designed as nissan's... so even if you 0 out the toe, you will experience some bump steer with the extra camber... and accelerated tire wear. But still better to align toe to 0 at ride height either way
