Tire shop for stretched tires on step lipped wheels in SF Bay Area?

Hey everyone, looking for a tire shop that can mount stretched tires, but more importantly can mount tires on step lipped wheels. If it makes a difference, I have 20" Work Euroline DH's, 8.5 and 10.5 wide. One of them recently started leaking air (of course it would be the 8.5 with a hardly stretched 225/35), so I tried going to Les Schwab in Vallejo to have them check it out, but the guy said he wouldn't be able to work on the wheel because of the stepped lip. Wheel works didn't want to touch the wheel either. I buy my tires from directbuytire in Alameda and have them install the tires there, but it's hard for me to make it out all the way over there. The guys at directbuytire don't seem to have any problems mounting the tires, but I forget what machine they use.

If you know of a shop, preferably somewhere near Vallejo, please let me know. Also, I don't know much about mounting tires, so if you can explain what the difference is between mounting tires on reverse and stepped lip wheels and why a shop wouldn't be able to do it, that'd be great as well. Do the shops need specific machines or techniques?

Hmmm sounds odd, maybe it's just that they didn't want to touch your wheels or the wheel was to big (diam.) for their machine... :shrug:

Yeah, I have no idea. The guy went outside to get my license plate for their records, came back in, and was like "is the wheel the same as the rear one?", I told him yeah just narrower, and then he said "Sorry I don't think we can do it then." I asked him why not so I could understand, and he was like "I've worked here for 9 years and nobody has ever brought in a wheel like that." I went to the wheel shop right across the street, and the guy told me, "if they told you they can't, we probably can't either since we have the same equipment." I don't get it either, but I do think the place where I buy my tires from, although tiny, has newer machines (if that even makes a difference).

reverse lip vs step lip..

Reverse lip is mounting it from the back cause of where the drop center is. so the face goes down on outer rim clamps

step lip is standard mounting from the top.

in terms of shops.. alot of places will do it.. like mach 3  / auto rnd / etc.. 
but none that i know of in vallejo

Thanks for the explanation. I could've sworn that the guy that mounted my tires did it just as in that picture with the face down. I don't have direct pictures of my wheels without tires, but I do have pictures of when I test fit the wheels. I can't tell for sure, but doesn't it look like my drop centers are indeed at the rear of the wheel?

And looking at some stepped DH's at RavSpec, theirs look like the drop is in the rear as well.

If a step lip wheel has the drop center in the rear still, is there another name for the wheel? Fake step lip? Lol. I'm assuming being 2 piece welded might have something to do with it. And if that is indeed the case, does that change whether shops should be able to mount tires on them or not? Is there a difference between clamping the front or rear, or clamping a stepped lip? I see how the location of the drop mount determines which side the tire is mounted from, I just don't understand how that prevents a shop from being able to do it.

A shop near or in the 925 would do as well since I work out here, but the names of any shops would still be helpful, if not for me maybe someone else since I couldn't find any information. AutoRnD seems like a good place, it's just a little far and the opposite direction of where I am.

I think it's mostly because of equipment, not all places have newer machines... i.e. able to even mount 20's, and with stepped 20's the clamps have to extend to nearly 21", and regulars only 19" :shrug:

That's what I'd like to know, what the differences are between machines. I kind of want to take the wheel back there so they can explain to me exactly why they can't (or at least don't want to) work on it. It's not a good look with one different wheel lol.

What part of east bay you at? If your close to fairfield take it to tire depot. They do great work and good price. Tell them the one with the white previa
 sent you.

I'm in the 707, so Fairfield is definitely close by. I'll have to stop by there some time in the near future, thanks for the recommendation.
