#482657Appliance Wars - Can't trust just anyone.
My ramble of the week, because I hope it may benefit someone like myself. No shame to my game, with 3 kids and my wife out of work on disability for the LAST pregnancy ( LOL ) money has been tight from Late July/Aug. Anyway, Circa last week Friday, as I recollect; our washing machine stopped working on the final spin. That's the spin cycle that removes a major amount of water from the clothing. Good old Frigidaire. The upside is, we've had it for years, never a problem so I will not condemn it for it's first issue. Just caught us off-guard.
So like any normal family we called an appliance specialists from one of our weekly publications. They came out and began their diagnostics. I was waiting for a package so I stepped outside to go check the mail, while checking the mail, I saw the maintenance mans truck ( he makin' good money ). I observed he was a veteran, so immediately I felt we will do the repair with this company or with him. As any normal person I initiated some small talk, and he wasn't to responsive so I let him do his thing, no biggie, when I'm hard at work I don't care to be bothered either.
During, after, somewhere in between his diag. he said, I'll have an estimate for you briefly. Then he began talking to someone in Russian of the phone. Awkward, I thought. So throughout this time lapse, never once did he initiate any conversation, describe a problem, or explain some sort of trouble tree. Nor did he maintain any eye contact or casual courtesy. As he begins to button things up, he tells us the issue - '' Main control board", I can replace it for $36x.xx plus 10% off, for using the ad, comes out to $33x.xx. I'd have to order the part if you'd like. For some reason, I didn't feel like my money was as green as the next guy, it wasn't a negative vibe, it was just a melancholy ordeal so, I politely declined and paid them their $35 call fee. Then, mentioned I'd keep them in mind as we are still looking for quotes.
So the next day, I see a friend I haven't seen in weeks, he normally drops by. So we are sitting there chopping it up. Somehow, by the grace of God, we began talking about his line of work. The funny part was - coincidentally he fixes appliances, no incidentally, I see there was a higher power at work here obviously! We won't get into religion, I'm not here to preach, cuz' I'm no peach! On the spot my buddy, the appliance guru tells me how to put our front load washing machine in diag. mode. He expressed the washing machine will begin to show a series of codes. Then explained, if it's this code it's this, if it's that code it's that. and starting explain the random scenarios, problems and solutions.......Absolutely FREEEEEEEEEEE
So excited I went home and did just that....i told him the error code and he gave me prices on what it would cost to fix, etc etc. I said let's do it, the ;laundromat is not an option. Keep in mind he and I are not besties, and I recently met him through our neighboring shop ( Drew, aka Ritzy33 ) just under a year ago, he could have taxed me 2ways from Sunday. But He didn't. So we spoke around 7pm that evening, confirmed the job for the following day once he had the availability status. With him no extended waiting, he had the part next day. That morning we communicated to confirm I'd be home, time flew before I knew it he came over and fixed my washer by noon for LESS THAN HALF of the OP's price. Icing to the cake, at my wifes request he adjusted the dryer door at no additional cost.
Needles to say, Blessed to have such friends, and if anyone needs some or any appliance work or even looked at, hit him up. His name is Cisco, 626-626-1197, If this violates any rule here on VSC please mods lmk, I will remove the contact number. JIC if anyone needs his number PM me or Ritzy33 .
