Purple paint color choice for Y50 M35

So we are starting to get ready to send car off to body shop once new kit comes in. The car is a daily and will rocking a k-break kit wide f/r fenders and k-break pinstripe in silver. Wheels will most likely be the Luxury abstract's off of my z

We were looking for a purple color. Something that wasnt too dark without any light. For this paint job was looking for something that could be resprayed easily to match w/o going crazy, nothing that is really color changing either. My wife wants a heavy metallic as this is her car.

In the past her old car color was Firemist purple that i used from TCP global. I am having this painted at TNT autobody.

We didnt want to do firemist purple again and wanted to go with something a little lighter. Hide swirl marks if possible.

One of the issues i am running in to is that having a purple car online and in pictures isnt the same as seeing it in person in various lights.. We've gone through paint chips and having such a small sample i don't know if it is enough..

Any help w/ an actual color code would be awesome.. Thanks

also before someone chimes in w/ Holden's Soprano Purple... it is a bit too dark

skyline midnight purple from the r33 or r34 to stay with nissan paint?

I dont have any suggestions for a specific color but I can give you a few tips to help you decide. First thing is color chips suck. Period. They are only an approximation of what the color will look like. And most of the time  the chip is printed with ink and not actual paint.  Therefore if you want to see the true color you need to spray the paint out on a test panel. Preferably something with some contour to it so you can see the depth of the color or lack thereof. Allot of people use RC car bodies for this and I think its a great idea. If you decide on an OEM paint color any body shop can mix up a small amount of paint and do this for you. Once you have the test panel sprayed out throw it in your car and take it with you everywhere. Look at it in bright sun, overcast, gas station at night, you get the idea. I had an older mustang that was red. Two reds. At high noon it was your average bright solid red, but pull into a gas station at night and it turned into a muddy orange color. 

Ill browse through some chip books tomorrow at work and see if anything catches my eye but I will tell you that you are not going to find anything with all that flake like in your picture coming  from an OEM. Hope this is useful.

my z is already might purple 3 and it is a bit too dark for her. 

@sperm - yeah i might be screwed. definitely have to work w/ paint shop thoroughly to find a color that will work. but it would be nice if we can at least get a good base color w/o throwing the flakes in.

Well after looking at a couple of yearly books at work I got nothing for ya. All the OEM colors are your standard pearl color with no flake. Which makes me wonder, why dont you want to do a pearl color? Some of the ones I did see looked pretty good. And also that big flake stuff will be a pain to match if there should be any boo-boos down the road whereas a pearl color will be more blend-able. And also if you take some color you like and "throw some flake in" you totally ruin the formula, unless you record all the quantities used. At which point color matching for a repair will be almost impossible. Just some things to think about.

yeah, this is turning out to be quite an endeavor. i was always under the impression that pearls were harder to color match than metallic flakes.. Also, doesnt pearls fade in sun? or is that a myth

Depends on the clear, low quality clears have lousy UV protection if none at all... Every pigment will fade with out protection and maintenance, no matter what material it is, paint flakes pearls rocks everything...

Rocks? LOL! Yes , your higher quality clears will have U.V. protection added. But as far as fading in general ,reds are the most susceptible to U.V. damage. Case in point, ask any painter about Toyota gold color code 4M9. It is a nightmare to match because (my theory) the red toner (color pigments) fades out over time leaving the flake and other toners in-tact changing the color. 

But as far as purple goes I cant comment  on fading because I dont paint a whole lot of purple cars. 

I think you should start looking at pearl colors because in my personal opinion they look pretty cool and have good depth of color. Although browsing through my house of color book I found a color called BC 10 pavo purple you can check out. It is a metallic purple but does not have the coarse flake like in the picture you posted.

yeah i am showing my wife.. the pavo looks too awful on a big car..

the other color my wife picked out is

Bordeaux Pontevecchio from a maserati.
its a dark red but seems to change to almost black to bright red to slightly purple.

at this point this is getting more confusing.

The scion xb is a brick. Need to look at something with some curves to get the real picture. 
Check the vintage truck as well as the meister centers.

I think that color is called Viola Ophelia. And its a three stage.

agreed...I'm feeling the kbreak kits lately

this is one of the most frustrating things i've ever done. its such a big decision.. yet its damn near impossible for me n the wife to make a choice. at least i the kit isnt here yet... but i wanna iron out the color.

so we've narrowed it down a bit i think..

something light but still has pop..

One of the colors we looked at that piqued are interest is sierra mist.. Believe it or not it is a factory shade for a ford probe.. It is a little too much blue hue for our taste but something around this lightness in terms of purple color..

Based on the probe color I think you might want to check out Kia color  code Z7. The name is blueberry. Nice and metallic-y in person, not too dark in the shade. Google images will show you a few different colors but this is the one I am talking about. It sucks looking at the color on a ugly ass kia rio but try to ignore the poor styling aspects of this econo-shit-box and focus on the color itself.
