98 q45 (starts right up but then turns off) HELP!

Hey whats up guys, i just picked up a 98 q45 about 3 days ago and today i started it up but then it  automatically turned off. It seems that the only way to keep it "on" was to rev my idle a little and it stayed on. Any thoughts on what this might be? is it common? thanks.

Fuel pump?

That happend to me . And i scanned my car. It wad my o2 sensors and some how my ecu took a shit on me to. So i changed my o2 sensors and my ecu and now its a normal car again;) so my best bet is too scan you car first!

thanks for the feedback guys and yes i will try that out! oh btw was your tcs/slip light on as well?

change the fuel filter also.its like 12 bucks.my q started to shut off when that was clogged.

I agree with beachbum-1 too.  Wait the slip was on when your car is on? If it is then it the alternator! Haha. Cuhs when my alternator was dying it smell like burning plastic and my slip/tcs will turn on before it dies! Im just telling you how i experienced on my q. Im not an engine geek or anything, i can be wrong :( lawls

So when i start my engine on it 50/50 comes on or not but yes when my car is on when the slip light shows. Also i forgot to mention, my car has a lower idle can that lead to anything else? @beachbum-1 i will look into that fuel filter as well.

If it Is your Alt. you could run the battery down to where it wont hold charge anymore. I would go ahead and get the alternator checked. Have you tried slaving it to another vehicle to see if it stays on? idles correctly?

Oh btw when idle is lower it is a symptom of an alternator dying. That can damage your vehicle because the components are not getting the proper amount of electricity. ex. Fuel injectors wont pulsate correctly or flow correctly.  IT COULD. .. NOTICE I SAID COULD lol . it could run lean and cause detonation and blazay blah

are all the harnesses in good shape or some sensors worn?

if any of those lights stay on while warming up, (tcs, slip, battery, abs) it is indicating that a major part will/has failed. mines was a simple vaccum hose... scan it with a obd 2 scanner, then tell us the code.

it could be many things like idle air control valve, fuel pressure regulator, alternator: if you want to check if its the alternator get the car running put it in park and disconnect the battery, if the car stays on your alternator is working if it turns off it needs replacing or rewiring. hope this helps

How hard is the fuel filter to get to, I wouldn't mind doing mine if it's not a headache to get to.

Well as I type and quoted this I'm sitting in the car with my fiancé  with this issue after the movies dammit I knew I should've done it yesterday .... DOH!!!!!
