Why do you never see celebities embracing the VIP style?

They just seem to stick to DUB style and never really progress. Seems lazy to do that since there really is nothing to DUB style. Take a car, throw some dub+ wheels on it and you are done. Never any interest in how one modification will accentuate another, and vice a versa. VIP does also have a huge influence by the wheels on the car, but it's the environment around the wheel which makes it impressive. (Camber, stretch, fender proximity, width and lip ((In the extreme cases)).

I find it so hard to imagine not being creative with the power of anything at your hands. It makes me sad.

But this (VIP) ain't mainstream, and even more it ain't something easy that your preferred shop can slap on. This style requires plenty of effort,thought, sacrifice and precise execution so it ain't something that can be easily obtained by throwing money around if you don't know what really want... you really need to submerge yourself into this niche scene to "get it".

And personally I'm some what pleased if this scene stays as niche as possible, there're enough posers wanting to look cool (newest fad) anyway.

correct me if I´m wrong, but I dont remember I´ve seen any celeb driving a really low car. Yeah, the drive expensive sport carts, but they are not that low at all.
DUB is all about showing off and thats what most want. VIP is more a WTF LOOK :D

so i found out about a shop right on the outskirts of baltimore a few months before i moved away and they were well known for catering to the all-stars and celebs in the area (i found out after visiting a few times).  after talking to one of the workers he showed me a big book of like 100+ cars they had all done for vip's and those with a vip budget ;)   ;  well the cars were on point, a few were vip platforms, some of the rims were on point with nice offsets and fat lips, a few had nice kits, lights etc....   but the #1 difference was that not but like 2 out of the 100 or so cars were lowered a single MM.  most were in fact higher off the ground due to the larger wheels that had been added.

i had the shop shave my two front fenders, sand them down, paint the calipers, spacers, and spray the inside of the shaved fender down with some protectant stuff and it turned out pretty good.  the shop said they had done this lots of times and i was actually recommended to them because they did this.  afterwards they took a few pics of my car (lowered UCF31 UL on prolly Traffic Stars or VIP modulars at that time) in front of their store and asked if i minded them putting it in their book, i said no...

but i've always thought that so many of those 100 cars would have looked so much better if they had just been 'slammed'.  don't know why they aren't other than the fact that it is hard to deal with the resulting driving style and takes a lot more brain cells to keep it up and looking good after this mod.  i am just guessing but i think most who buy a brand new MB S65AMG for example want to keep it near stock so they can re-sell it in 2-3 years or return it after their lease runs out  ;)

I understand wanting to keep this scene on the low. A couple years ago, when a lot of Honda people jumped ship, I started to loose interest. It is probably the only scene that has stayed quiet for a long time. Af you mention anything about it, all they know, if anything, is ridiculous camber. I just day dream a lot about what I would do if I won $300+ mil in the lottery. Lol.

Because its society believes that the owners of such cars are people most would not want to be associated... 
Aside from the glamour you see in the media, these cars are usually owned by younger adults who spends most of their paycheck in their car... most reside in the outskirts (cost of living) so you'll rarely ever see one in the 23 wards of Tokyo; at least I haven't seen one.  Some refer to them as very "itai" people... As in, someone who chooses to go against the social norm. Not a generally appreciated quality in the understated harmony seeking society like Japan.  
with the cultural difference and such a niche sub cultural aspect of Japan,  It's a hard to paint a picture... Just remember that its unfortunately not a widely accepted subculture in Japan.

Celebs are the cheapest customers....they want stuff for free because of who they are.  With that being said, they do not flock to VIP style because most do not know anything about it.  They emulate each other and current trends.  If someone can rope a few celebs into a VIP style or VIP chassis, others will follow.  They tend to try to up each other or want what other celebs have done to their cars.

i forget which but i had a vip mag from maybe 2008 time frame which had a special like 5 page section with about 8 different cars that minor celebs and mostly baseball players and 1 mma fighter (kid; norifumi yamamoto; my favorite japanese fighter btw)  had done.  most of the cars were not extreme but were very nicely styled vip platform cars with air susp and rims and what not.  if i ever come across this old mag i will surely post up what month and volume # it was, hell or even some pics of it.

i remember 1 baseball player in particular had a very nicely done ucf31 silver i believe that was probably the best of the bunch.  i had later seen some cars of 'kids' on some blog and he has one kick ass (pun intended) collection that i am supper jelly over.  he had a few euro cars a few vip cars, and an exotic or two.

1 thing that i've really been noticing a lot lately since i've been living back in japan is that cars that are not super aggressive vip, ones that we would consider vip if they rolled up to a car meet stateside that was just mildly vip styled if you will, well those are just pretty normal over here.  there is a thick line between this mild vip and what japanese people would consider vip.  i believe this is why it is such a niche group or counter culture in the car world here.

i've been looking through some different styled car mags while waiting at a stereo shop out here and these mags had all sorts of different styles of builds on all sorts of different platforms and i noticed a re-occurring theme of lowered, body kits, flush fitment wheels with nice offsets.  so since this is pretty much the basic of what you see at a car meet stateside the only difference is that when its applied to a vip platform car, we think its vip.  but over here unless its a full blown build it is not considered to be vip over here, just a normal modded car  ;)

I remember seeing a ls460 auto couture kitted and wheels owned by a nba player can't remember who a couple of years back thought it was very VIP inspired

How many people have time to dodge every pot hole, be paranoid about DIPS in the road let alone actual road obstacles, messing with air, or dealing with static suspension that has 2 inches of ground clearance?!  It's a sacrifice and challenge to drive slammed, that's the reason it will never be common place, let alone entertained by celebrities or most car enthusiasts.

We all here think that VIP is the end all be all of automotive style, but honestly, most of the rest of the world either doesn't get it or thinks it's ridiculous.  For those few reasons alone a celebrity isn't going to embrace the style.  How "fly" is it to be a grown ass man dragging frame into a high end restaurant or club?

i understand where your coming from ....but end all be all is not my mindstate at all, i love all types of cars but just happen to like VIP better and im personally glad its a small scene (at least stateside) so it wont get watered down.....

My local car forum, which has a lot of off road/autocross/street racers...absolutely hate the idea of VIP, but will give my car props. Its kind of annoying how much hate they give out. Its mainly to the "stance bros" that half ass it, but I think most people are truely Function > Form.

And while I'm only low on stock wheels...I don't get any attention, from ANYONE. I mean, I'm the only low M45 within like 500 miles. But, its kind of nice to fly under the radar.

I hear you.  I think where you live has a lot to do with the appreciation of the style, and honestly, how detail oriented the person who sees the car is.  If you're an average enthusiast you won't understand the amount of time and effort, not to mention equipment, money and skill, that it takes to get these cars to look the way they do.  To stay more on point, I think your average celebrity is not truly a car enthusiast, they see a car as an accessory to a lifestyle.  Given that, they're not going to care about the small detailed changes that are the hallmark of a true VIP build.  This, combined with the compromise in owning a car this low, makes for a recipe that only a few truly appreciate.
