1st gen gs...non working gas gauge

Just bought the car, thought the buyer just being an ass by selling me a car with no gas haha. I put some gas to get home and nothing. Ive been busy with my newborn daughter so I have to time to check it out.*When i have the chance,My first think is to check out the floating device in the fuel tank. Wat u guys think Or is it eletrical?
