contrasting seat piping?
is there a way to do this:
without having to spend big $$$ at an upholstery shop? ie. is there some sort of vinyl paint/dye that i can paint onto the piping myself without having to tear everything apart?

If your car doesnt already have piping, its gonna cost ya. You have to know what type of stitch was used as well. Some stitching wnt allow for piping (French stitching, etc) without leaving a row of old needle marks :(

leatherseats.com iirc sells leather kits for cars ALL the time on clublexus.com in their group buys section. i think for sure like 3 times a year. its like 5-600 bucks for a complete upholstery kit, including piping if you want it. install is like 200-300 extra if you dont want to do it yourself.
