VSC GS400 rebuild thread

Hello VSC! Decided it was time to go ahead and begin the rebuild thread here on VSC. I wasn't planning on doing a thread because I've always felt it was a pretty simple thing. Thanks to Dranom from our good friends at Style63, he reminded me that I should do a build thread. I've been wanting to change up the GS a bit after it sitting as is since I started VSC in 2003. I wasn't trying to do anything ground breaking nor "start a new trend" I felt that a build thread would just bore people. I was going to rebuild this car my way and it may not sit too well with "purists" because of some of the things I wanted to do. I would like to apologize now for the quality of the pictures. Every single picture was taken using my iPhone instead of my 5DMarkII.

Lets start with how the car sat before we decided to begin the rebuild. Here is a picture from the shoot we did with StyleOverComfort.com

The car was built in 2003 with one purpose and it was to promote Junction Produce's move into the US market. Car was built with everything that was in the JP catalog down to the floor mats. We even went with the version of the Scaras which were made by OZ Wheels. Still to this day only this set has reached the U.S., and will always be one of my favorite sets. I kept that wheel setup for years. To most GS owners this setup was fine and personally I was proud of the build. We were able to pull off a complete Junction Produce build without cutting any corners. I will admit it was a crazy journey and that journey personally began to create a sense of distain towards having a full Junction Produce build. There were many nights where we were working on other cars from our crew, Endless Projects debating on if we should rebuild my GS. Carlin, Silas, Norm, and Jerry over at Impact Performance constantly gave me a lot of confidence that it was something we can do. Those were the 4 guys who helped me rebuild the Air Runner suspension and then Carlin and Norm created that trunk that I cannot be any happier with. I spoke a lot with Glen who owned the Rod Millen GS400 which transformed into a Job Design one. I wanted to get his thoughts on when he went through the rebuild. Then I found something I have been searching for, a Rod Millen Supercharger for my GS400.

That was it. Once I got my hands on that thanks to a lead Glen helped me on I knew it was time to start the rebuild.

Forum image

With the Supercharger, I also picked up a set of LS460 and G35 Projectors for the headlights. It was something I would do along the way and take my time with.

So it began. I decided to sell the wheels and toyed with the idea for months. When I finally made it official and took the wheels off, they didn't last long. Less than an hour after the post was made, the deal was made and my good friend Tony made it a part of his wheel collection.

So we decided to finally take the body kit off and maybe sell it? I had my eye on another body kit however I couldn't let go of my favorite part of the Junction Produce kit. I didn't want to let go of the door caps and side skirts. I loved the look that those gave and of course I couldn't come up with a front and rear bumper setup that would continue to match it.

Forum image

We also were able to obtain our old Junction Produce fenders from our good friend James also known as "VIPDOut". I really wanted the Artisan Spirits fenders however felt didn't flow too well with the JP sideskirts and door caps. Let's keep some of the original identity of the car when we debuted it at SEMA 2003.

Forum image

Pic of the car where I posted online and people thought I wrecked it? Don't know why that was, I was just removing the front end because we were deciding on what to do with the body kit.

Forum image

Now to the wheel setup. We were able to work out a line for VIPStyleCars.com and simply name it VSC Wheels by Work. We do have a few sets left if anyone is interested (wink, wink). I went with the Durandal 10.2. I really enjoyed the multi-spoke look of this wheel. I was torn between this or a mesh type wheel. I figured with the color I was interested in, this setup may be the way I want to go. Couldn't decide on how aggressive I wanted to go and what diameter. My Scara OZ were not aggressive at all. I'm more a tuck fan anyways rather than pushing the envelope with camber and fitment. I found a happy medium thanks to Impact Performance and the different Work Wheel setups they were doing.

Forum image

Since we had the car down because of the body work, it was time to start refreshing the motor in preparation for the Supercharger. Carlin over at Impact Performance put in a lot of work with the engine so that it can be bulletproof. The mileage on the motor wasn't too bad for we were sitting at 90k or so. We won't go too crazy over the motor but lets just say I love how it runs now and that was before we put in the Supercharger.

It was sort of a passing of the guard moment for me. We weren't going to be touted as the Junction Produce GS400 anymore. We were going in a different direction now. There are some fantastic JP themed builds out there now. Dennis over in Guam is one clear example. Bad ass JP build, he should have that torch now.

Just some quick pics of the motor being refreshed for the Supercharger install we plan on doing later on. New belts, seals, and other stuff. Don't want to bore you guys and gals with it now. ;)

Since it was going to body and paint next, we had to remove the trunk setup. I was very content with how the trunk came out however Carlin and Norm felt otherwise. Also we were blessed to work with our good friends over at Accuair so instead of hiding those components, we wanted to figure out how to showcase that. Stay tuned to that because we will work on that after we get the Supercharger in.

Carlin is putting the kit back together after we mounted the wheels on. Wanted to get the car over to 5Fifteen Autobody in Burlingame, CA.

These are probably the only pics I took of the GS with the new VSC Wheels on while the car was black. I never planned on showing these pics but I might as well add it to the build thread.

Now the car is over at 5Fifteen Autobody. We asked them to work their magic with my rear fenders. We can go over that at a later time. The car needed some body work, being almost 14 years old it needed a lot of work.

Now the fun part! The color choice was something that shocked a few people. I wanted to go away from black really bad. I wanted a color with a lot of pop. I had my eye on a certain shade of Orange. I started with the idea of using Imola Orange off the Acura NSX. That color wasn't the what we went with. I didn't think Imola Orange fit what I was after. After discussing it with Kris over at 5Fifteen, we came up with this shade of orange. Off to the paint booth we go!

This is where the car sits now. I am so happy with the work they are doing at 5Fifteen. Kris and Sunny have been working with Carlin and I every step of the way. Never have I built a car with shops that are working so closely together to get it done. Once the car comes out of paint I will update this thread. We will then bring the car back to Impact Performance and begin the Supercharger install. I know I am missing a lot of stuff but then again this wasn't a planned thread. Thanks for reading!

Are you using an oem orange mix or custom? This almost looks like the FX/Maxima/350z orange lol

Thanks Thomas, it was great to spend some time just talking about it all. Direction of the car build as well as the direction of VSC. Your car is a great inspiration to get the build done.

Appreciate it David. I've been stuck on orange for quite some time now. I'm glad we were able to find an shade of orange that we can be really excited about.

Dranom;495533 wrote:Yes!!! My post at IG worked! lol
Glad you decided to make a thread john the car deserves it!
Love the orange

Hahaha yes it did work! I should use the VSC app more huh? lol

It was time to give the car a facelift. I'll miss it in the old state but extremely happy that we get to add our own twist to it.

We started with an oem color mix and twisted it a bit. That Nissan orange was a choice too but we went elsewhere.

I think I would have kept the wheels if I kept the kit. a new color scheme and a couple detail mods could have updated the build while remaining "the jp gs". glad you're finally digging into it.

True, but I really wanted to go away from the whole "JP GS" mantra.

Nice rebuild thread, and a brave and bold choice in the colour! Bright colours are cool in the VIP scene now and at least in the States you have the weather for it to make it pop!
