thanks...nothing got low enough for my tastes, so I am currently have about 1.8 coils cut all around on number one pads...car rides fine. I want to get my Brabus/Wald kit on the car, but I have been waiting for my hydraulics so I don't scrape my beautiful new kit :)

i hear that. my bad bro i thought u were already running some kind of air suspension because of the height it's sitting at. good luck with your install. keep us updated.

Hydraulics are very universal...although they seem to work better on non-Macpherson cars

But why hydraulics when there is airsus for your car already? I mean, is there a specific reason to go hydro? Just as there are universal kits like that, there is also universal types of airsus. Just trying to figure out your reasoning

oh ok - Thanks for the clarification!
Well...here are my reasons for choosing Hydraulics over air:
My car's suspension is separate coil/shock (ideal for air bags); however, I do not have a welder, nor the resources to fabricate bag mounts, new shock mounts, etc (not to mention I barely have any room for shocks). I also want to go as low as possible, and Hydraulics will get me the lowest I want to go. Additionally, it's just a little cooler, in my opinion, to have hydraulics because so many people run air, and few even consider hydraulics-which makes it that much more unique. My brother has had several "juiced" cars, and hydraulics are more of his forté, so I would feel more comfortable having him assist me, than paying some shop a ridiculous amount of money to fabricate things for me. One of my brother's cars from back in the day on hydraulics (98?).

extra weight
what about the extra weight from the batteries. You probably need to run 4 batteries right? just wondering because if hydros have improved I may consider using it instead of air. My buddy use to have it in his toyota truck. he had 2 pumps, 4 batteries.

I have hydraulics in my LS (getting installed right now from my previous LS 400)
I personally love Hydraulics i wouldn't have it any other way, much more original and doing a little 3 Wheel motion is pretty fun.
The only reason the hydraulics are "bouncy" is because of the hoppers they run about 3-4ton springs. I currently have about 800Lbs springs and rides smooth as a mutha, only at full lock does it ride kinda bumpy.
Yeah I did mine for originality as well, from what i have heard some of the hardcore VIP guys run hydro's in Japan.
Hydraulics > AIR RUNNER/ AIR PERIOD Just my opinion.
I have 3 batteries and pretty bomb.
GL with the install.

To answer some questions:
I am running two Optima Yellow Top batteries. These should easily get me through one week between charges. I am choosing to charge the batteries myself because I want them to be fully charged, but for the lazy people, check out www.streetcharger.com.
Hydraulics can ride bouncy UNLESS you run accumulators. Accumulators are bladders of nitrogen that act as a shock for the hydraulic system. They give a very soft ride (Cadillac soft), and the car just glides over bumps...definitely cushy.
I am doing the install myself, so I am saving a lot of money this way. When I purchased everything though, I only bought the best of the best, so if you go that route, you have a much more reliable setup. Long live juice!

basically, if your tucking, your sucking.
radius your fenders to get ultra low, yet still have the full rim showing.

my car is fairly flush in the rear, although I might run spacers once I see it laid out (10mm perhaps)...just depends on how it looks to me...My front fenders are pulled and rolled, so I might need some 15mm up front to make it a little more flush...
note: pic is before car settled and before I had my system in the trunk

Both pros and cons to running hydraulics over air, yet the two things that make running hydros a plus over air as that only on "some" cars do I see bags sit as low as juice for the reasons that a bag can easily rub on something being compressed into such a small space opposed to a 1 1/2" hydraulic cylinder. The other advantage with hydros is sure it can be messy, but if/when there is a leak at least you know where it's coming from. I've had air before and when your car is falling the last thing you want to do is "hunt" to where the leak is coming from.

But remember not all airsus is bag type. Although many do use them, some do not at all. Air cylinders take up far less space and many new airsus companies are starting to utilize an air cylinder over a bag. Many of these cars don't need that volume of air like full size trucks. These newer types aren't using a rubber sleeve either. Instead it appears as a full air cylinder with no visible "bag" or "sleeve". I think after a while these systems will become more affordable as currently they're on the costly side. I'm sure you've seen these types before yourself. I personally hated the mess associated with hydraulics. Either way there's bound to be problems with either..so really it's just the users discretion on what they decide to run.

My thing with air cylinders is you just can't get as low with them, nor do you get the same lift with them.

cylinders becomming more affordable hasnt happened yet, and ive noticed cylinders are being replaced by air struts. air suspension companies in the usa have practically phased out cylinders, and prices haven't dropped. i think the product will eventually drop, much like the "accumulator tanks" that were sold along with these air cylinders... the ones that were just tanks plumbed with an in-and-out. at this time, the only advantage to a cylinder is the dog leg, when compared against a bag... this is what the industry will tell you also.
now if you are talking about the world of lorin, then yes, cylinders are still being developed... not to mention, before getting word of his internally dampened setup i was also working on a cylinder setup that would use accumulators... i just never had the chance to figure out how much nitrogen to charge them with, being that an air type system would run much less pressure than hydrolics. an experiment that's been lost by the way, probably for the better.
OCKlasse;51553 wrote:My thing with air cylinders is you just can't get as low with them, nor do you get the same lift with them.
air cylinders should go as low as their juiced competitor... im not really familiar with hydro rods, but in most cases the cylinders i see for sale are much shorter than the rods. i believe air cylinders will go as low as hydrolic rods.
although you are right about cylinders not being able to lift as high as hydrolics. but cylinders have way more adjustable range than air struts (bags)... which is why i was chasing the cylinder/accumulator project... an air strut with 3" of range is NOT going to get your tall vip kit off the ground enough to get over obstacles in the road.
i think your choice to juice the car is a good one. you've done some good research, and shouldn't go unappreciated.
