I think people need to stop looking for cheap alternatives to fixing up their luxury cars. Sure, it's a cheap-as dictated by the market-luxury car, but at this rate these cars are going to end up looking like 240s with mismatching body panels and dents and dings everywhere and owners that think it's so VIP of their car to be that way. That's not too VIP at all. Exploring different venues of lowering a car temporarily to learn more about it is one thing, but to specifically look for cheap alternatives purely for the sake of being cheap, and not having any plans to ultimately do it right, is not too cool...(this applies to ALL cars, but more so when you want to build a "VIP" car)

not to argue or start a fight, but some people don't have a hell of a lot of money to dump into a car(even if they wish they could)...so, to me i think if somebody is putting their interest and money and time into a car to make it into their own, then thats cool with me...i mean, my camry isn't exactly vip, buts its my car, and i made it my own....kudos to everybody else doing the same, whether its vip, drift, grip, drag, whatever....if they're car people, they're cool with me.
as for the suspension question...no, that wont work...the suspensions are different in many ways

no.
you've got to pay to play. save your money, jic coilovers aren't THAT MUCH more expensive than s14 coilovers. don't cheap out and grab some fucking megan racings or k-sports or d2's (all the same coilover by the way).

I have to agree with you guys on this one. I am seeing a lot of people selling their "drift" cars and buying Y33s and G50s (because they are pretty cheap now days) with one purpose: to build a VIP car. But thats as far as their dedication goes. I give props to the person who tried OEM S14 springs and was able to get the car down on the ground. BUT I have yet to see a real VIP car to be modified in that manner. VIP cars are not cheap to build. But they don't have to be expensive to build either. I see lots of parts available on Yahoo Japan and Upgarage that are extremely reasonable.
What it comes down to is what's the point on buying a new car, just so you can cheap out and go with "alternatives" to doing it the right way.
I have no problem with people making a car their own. I am all for it...because I hate to have a Y33 that looks like any other one driving on the street. But I would hate myself if I knew that I half-assed on modifying it and forgoing handling just to achieve a certain look.
Coming back to the topic...I think you are talking about coilover sleeves, such as Max Speed and Ground Control. They should work...but why? The ride is going to be horrible, the struts won't handle it and definately won't impress too many people with that setup. Buy some Tein Springs that are made for the car. OR buy used set of coilovers that are made for the car...I have seen sets that can be had for well under $1K.

im not gonna do this or anything but since more people are starting to lowering there cars with parts not made for there car i figured someone was probly thinking about it...I def. agree to keep the VIP culture classy and maintain the original standerds of moding using the best quality parts available..I kind feel bad i posted this because its not about trying to cut corners to mod your car...:/
Myself personaly i try to fix my car using the best quality products out there. My last car (ep3 civic) was bought new and i never had the urge to cheapin it and cut corners modding it. Everything i bought for it was brand new..

ok, i dont know what the sigh meant, but i meant that my camry isn't vip, i had no intention of it being vip. hell, its a camry...i love it:smiley: , but i'm not about to make it into something its not.
and as for the suspension, you can make anything fit any car, but why would you want to? products made especially for YOUR car are meant to "improve" those aspects of your car...looks are important, and so is money, but quality is as well.
just my thoughts

the thing that makes y33 coilovers so expensive is the spindle-knuckle set up.

well sometimes its ok to make some parts fit to some cars that dont have such an aftermarket as others. my 98 acura rl has literally 1 coilover made for it and its over 2g im 17 work at shoprite i cant afford that yet but i got tsx ksports to work on the car and its holding prefectly. sometimes its necessary but in the sake of other cars like the y33 and ucf10/20's/30's there are many a choice of parts available for that car since its a pretty popular car. but the day i see those cars built like shit running some random parts with mismatched panels is the day i buy a civic. (hopefully never)

Definately...but what we are talking about are those sleeve coilovers that sell for $50 at your local wallmart.
I am going to beat you to it and get rid of my car before I see one running sportmax wheels with max-speed coilovers and a lip off of a 240sx zip-tied to the bumper. Well also because my car is screwed up...sigh.

I think its funny how people say drifters are cheap, and all f*ckered up. yea true.. but the parts are just as expensive. Funny how you all stereotype the drift community. When in fact there are expensive coilovers for drift cars as well. There is cheap vip, and expensive vip.. there is cheapo drift and expensive drift.
Cheapo drift is the people that want to do it right now cause they have to have right now. Most of these people are posers of the community. There is suspension for drift cars runnin upwards in the 2k section. Wheels are the same as vip cause the influance has transended to drifting and fitmint.
If anything, i laugh at the people who want jic. you all like it cause its the only coil over for the car! hahaha. Jic is as gay as megan or ksport or what ever off brand you have named. I would rather use a apexi n1 coil from a s14 if it fit a q45 than a actual jic product and relying on it.
Drifting is anything and everything. The 240/silvia is a band wagon. A lot of people that are hardcore into it want to sell it and get into something diffrent. Not just a Vip car.. But a Vip drift car. Drifting aint cheap and is about as expensive as vip, depending how hard core you are into the sport.
So before people spout off what they think drifting is.. look into it more not all of it is what you precive it to be....
PS To me drifting will always be my thing. I would much rather have a vip car to drift then it just to roll around looking pretty. To me thats baller status, cause i know alot of people cant afford or even think about pitchin their new m45 sideways at 80mph

i think dreamers think about drifting m45s, not drifters... even cheap ones.
