112 wheels on 114.3 hub??
i just recently got some mercedes wheels that are going on my q, going to get adapter spacers, but i was bored and decided to try and stick it on the hub and suprisingly it fits? is this like safe, at all? or wobble city. it sits flush against the hub surface but i imagine the lugnuts are going to stress the studs this way. it got me thinking that if the bolt pattern is so close, would it be possible to machine out the wheels slightly? or is this unsafe. i would prefer to have correct bolt pattern wheels and a regular spacer instead of an adapter spacer.
anyway please let me know any info on this
PS. dont call me ghetto im not driving around with the wheels like this i just thought it was interesting that they went over the studs haha.

I am using mercedes wheels for spares, and I used a spacer/converter to put those things on.
But there are a few members running brabus wheels, and they had those machined out to fit the way they're suppost to.
I wouldn't drive on the wheels the way they are right now...they will wobble and put extra stress on the studs.

yeah, i have heard of people machining out the lug holes. there's someone selling some brabus wheels here, that are on a q45, and they had been machined out to fit 5x114.3. PM him, he'll tell yah what's up.

They fit over 114.3mm PCD because mercedes usually use 14mm wheel bolts... so the mounting holes in their wheels are large enough for the 12mm wheel studs to slip in and make up the 2.3mm pcd difference. The bad ass way to machine benz wheels would be to enlarge the holes using the 114.3mm pcd (i.e. not concentric with the existing mounting holes), and then using a tubular shim with a 12mm ID and OD to match the hole you bored out. what most people do is bore those holes out using the 112mm pcd, and then use eccentric shims to slip inside the holes in the wheels that fit over their studs. Only worth the time, money, and effort for really nice benzo wheels...otherwise not worth it

charlie, I have a friend who runs M5 wheels on his 80's V12 Jag. I forget the PCD's but it was somelike like 2-3mm of difference and he just jammed them on there with a tiny bit of force and they were fine. He's been running them for 2 years almost I think...

Don't do it, the difference is much greater than BMW wheels on a Jag.
With BMW wheels on a Jag, it's putting 5x120 wheels onto a 5x120.7 bolt pattern. It's less than a millimeter, but even then I personally would not run that if I had the option.
Putting 5x112 onto 5x114.3 is over 2mm, and at the wheel manufacturer I work at, we would never allow a customer to do this, due to it being unsafe. You could lose a wheel due to improper lug seating or fracture a stud.
What I would do if you want to run the wheels is redrill them, or have 5x114.3 to 5x112 bolt on adaptors made.

Don't do it, the difference is much greater than BMW wheels on a Jag.
With BMW wheels on a Jag, it's putting 5x120 wheels onto a 5x120.7 bolt pattern. It's less than a millimeter, but even then I personally would not run that if I had the option.

while pcd diff isnt the same as hub centric, ive seen someone install a wheel that wasn't quite hub centric. within a months time they flipped and totaled the car due to one wheel coming off on the freeway.
might not be worth the risk.

A wheel not being hub centric is really only an issue if the wheels aren't torqued down properly, or if the wheels aren't lug-centric too.
If you torque down a wheel the right way, and if the bolt patterns match, whether or not it's hub-centric won't really matter. This goes for bolt on adaptors too.

Putting on the rim is hard since there is so much play you have to center the rim with the hub while trying to put on the lug nuts. Holding up a 25lbs+ rim is super hard especially by yourself. I currently don't have any hub centric rings and have some wheel shake over 60mph but i'm not sure if it's due to the slight misalighnment or just the balance of the rim/tire itself. I bought these rims with the tires and its possibly these are slightly off balanced to begin with. With hubcentric rings it would make it much easier and would get it as close to centered as possible while the lugs are tightened down and seated properly. I have some on order at www.thewheelsupply.com and hope that would fix the problem with the shake and also will be rebalancing the tires.

You will need the hubcentric ring to keep the wheels from shaking at higher speeds since your wheels are redrilled. You can get custom wheel spacer/adapter to fit with the rings built in, but you cant get anything less than 20 or 25 mm.
