stupid and messed up!

In the meantime, Nick has sent his pink slip and a letter from the shop that the car belonged to Nick, as well as the carfax information stating that the car was not in major accidents. He called the police department to talk to the officer on Monday. He was told that the officer was off duty on Monday. It’s the same day that he got a call from the officer asking how to start his car. 



Now the police informed him that he would take this to DA to see they could charge him with a misdemeanor for having a car with no VIN!! 



This is WRONG! This is too CRAZY!! 

This harassment has to be stopped. We as RIDE family have to show that we the import car enthusiasts will not be bullied and threatened by police profiling. Show your support. Call your friends and share this crazy news with other fellow import car lovers. Post it on your Websites and myspace pages. 



Call your City Council person and complain. You don’t know the number; call me I will find it for you. Write a letter of support or email for Nick and Project RIDE and send that to me. We will unite to stop this! 



I will keep you posted with any progress. Meanwhile, Project RIDE is sending a letter of formal complaint to District Attorney Office of San Mateo. We are also looking for a legal aid from other nonprofit agencies. We will fight this injustice TOGETHER!

1. Don't EVER remove a VIN. (and check to make sure it wasn't removed)
2. Never run 2 VIN's unless its an imported car ISSUED another VIN by DMV.  
3. Not all cops are cool.
4. Not all cops are dicks.
5. Sucks for your friend.

it's pointless for them to post this up, thinking it's going to do anything. if they want to bitch about it, they need to call their congressman.

Thats Fucked up, but I doubt there is anything you can do about it. They are cops no matter what and unless it gets big media nothing ever happens in incidents of abuse from authority, Ive been beeten, Ive had bags planted, and I have been convicted of crimes I did not commit in 2 seperate counties with different stories against me pertaining the same incident. Never have I even gotten a sorry for the trouble after the judge's addmited fowl play. One thing altho is he should have gotten the vin on there some how or another. I can see where the pigs are comeing from, but to go and do all thats messed up.

Interesting story altho, this may even have moral to it. But Caoboy is right its pointless, but also pointless to tell congress as they dont care either and nore do they like civillians complaining about the way they enforce Laws.

Literally without any lobbying support you are nothing.... enter SEMA membership and their commitment to changing this. If Project RIDE is really serious about persuing legal recourse and or changing this behavior then they MUST work in conjunction with the SEMA organization to get this done. They have done a lot already to help us the enthusiasts to keep our hobby from turning illegal.

First of all, Nick is a close friend of mine as well as Lethal Injection. His teammate is on this board Jojo 'cruznody' - Honda Odyssey. The stupid thing was the people who worked on his car messed everything up. VIN was moved on the dash because it was CF which is a NO NO. The body shop somehow covered up the vin inside the engine bay. The San Mateo PD used paint thinner to find the vin on a $6000 paint job. Since the vin was tampered, it already gives the police probable cause of a stolen vehicle. Though, it doesn't give the local authorities the right to dismean the owner by saying I'm going to crush this car and take it a part piece by piece. Stella posted merely to inform the enthusiasts out there of what is going on. And for those cars entering Hot Import Nights, skip the next one and just drive a stock car and notice the cops. The staff of Hot Import Nights knew what was going on and did little to help out. The cops are only at their shows. Last year at the San Francisco HIN/Nightshift, the SFPD had at least 5 cars for each street around the venue as well as a portable command center. This does not happen to DUB, Extreme Autofest, FormulaD, etc. Oh and by the way, Nick's car was brought in by a trailer to the venue and pushed in since they couldn't get it started. This is where the police officer confronted him.

Once the VIN is tampered with in any way, you lose. The law is law.

Is the car still in, whats that they like to say...Janitorial custody?

Stupid cops and dumb words like that you know what they want, they want it there to impound it, they want you there to arrest you, Janitorial custody my ass!

Well, it really does suck for Nick, but I don't see what they expect to do by complaining about it. If it wasn't a show car nobody would give a shit. Just looks like the police are doing their job. That's why you must not ever remove the VINs from your car.

It is more of informing then complaining. The police are doing their job but at the same time what kind of city official degrades a person who is fully cooperating with him and after the car was actually towed the police officer decided to throw in more words like "I'm going to crush your car, take it apart piece by piece, and you'll never get it back." Ok tell me this. If you're having a body shop work on your car for a few months and just get it back. Would you even remember to check it? Of course you should but would you remember.

Yeah, the policeman sounds like he was enjoying it a bit too much, I doubt he was unbiased in his decisions.
But as for your question, yeah, I would.
I'd also expect a shop not to make the mistake of removing VINs though, or to at least tell me about it and keep the VIN tag...

what gives the police the right to search and confiscate these show cars. Is it because of the amount of cars stolen and stripped or rebuilt? I know Motorex created all those problems for themselves. THat could be why the authorties have been harassing more more.

Thats completely focked up I've never seen cops do crap like this in St.L most of St.L's finest wouldnt have a clue what they were looking for in the first place so I guess were lucky.Good luck to this guy and I hope he gets everything back in one piece.
