Double sided Tape?

What do the oem companies use to apply emblems to cars?

I got buddy who was wondering this cause he bought a wing from Japan and it came with what seemed to be foam or glue but felt like double sided tape. It's used and there are no screw holes.:eek: 

What could they have used to make it stick with out falling off.

That would be double sided sticky...foam. Most double sided tape is like a foam, because as you can imagine it would be very hard to work with thin papery stuff that's sticky on both sides :(

OEM stick-on emblems aren't meant to be re-used though.

3M double sided tape works very well.  Thats what I have my wing held on with and I drive my car everyday.  Hasn't fallen off yet (knocks on wood)

CORRECTION: Use the 3M heavy duty.  It has a bright red backing.  That's the one used by autobody shops as well.  I used it to apply my roof wing on my Z and it held like a champ.

do NOT use the white foam looking one. it sucks.

yeah and its like 15 bucks a roll in japan....nad its a small roll

Go to a auto paint supply and you can find 3m duoble sided tape there. They have different size thickness and width..Since your in Tucson go to Pro-1 or that other shop on Grant and Stone..They also sell it at Autozone. IF you need some maybe we could meet up and I can give you a piece for your buddy....

DO NOT forget to use some sort of adhesive promoter as well.  This will make it almost imposible to remove, however I attached my side skirts and did not use promoter.......they came off.  Used it for the re-attachment and It has been years and they are still on.  And I live in oregon for christ sake. I got snow and rain and salt and still they wont come off!

good note! make sure to clean the surface! i use rubbing alcohol. gets all the grease and dirt off real good.

3M makes the best stuff, that's all I would use.

By far the best two side sticky tape I've used when applied correctly.

I mean for the promotor? Is there a particular brand?

thats what you would need to use. make sure the surface is clean before apllying the object on

3M also.  Good stuff when paired together.

Don't put the adhesion promotor on the car itself, put it on the wing or whatever you are placing on the car. Adhesion Promotor will damage paint, they make it in a alchohal wipe style, get that kind. Just clean the car good before sticking it to it.

Good stuff. Had that holding my wings west gfx on my ef and now thats all I have holding on my wing on the wagon...

3M's great stuff! I used it to hold a chin spoiler on my car and it wont come off and I hit 140 a bunch of times on the highways.

Team Losi has some very strong tape. It is an R/C car company...

For badges, the 3M double sided tape is good enough.  You can find them in your local auto store (i.e. AutoZone, Kragen, PepBoys).

Nothing is better then 3m. I don't know who was talking about adhesion promoter (never heard of it) but all you need to do is wipe the surface down clean with some alcohol or wax/grease remover and apply the tape firmly. No need to use any type of promoter, the 3m stuff is that good.
