antenna options
my 1997 y33 has the dated, expandable power antenna tube.
it looks so dated and does not match the current state of my car.
what are other options ? I don't mind sticking a faux BMW style roof antenna but it will look stupid with my oem power antenna on my left quarter panel.
any thoughts ?

Get the Junction Produce Roof antenna and have the side queater panel antenna removed, shaved and painted..wala..requires some work and $$ but if you wanna update it that would be the way to go... I personally like the chrome accent it gives the car I think it gives it a little more of a LUX look while the other (roof antenna) gives more of a sporty look.
Good Luck!

i say keep it, it looks good with the chrome accent. imo i think shaving it would take the little luxury detail of the q45s

Sorry to bump an old ass thread, but I have the same question. Has anyone ever replaced the stock antenna with some sort of stubby stationary antenna? Like s2000 style? I know you can replace non-telescoping antennas but Im not sure about power ones.

leave it..... is it that bad? I like the retracting antenna. usually only luxury cars had that option while cheap cars had a static rod. now antenna are built into the car...I think the window. the stub on top of like bmw I think is for satellite radio...possibly am/FM also

only thing i don't like about em is the motor always goes out. no antennae > antennae sticking up halfway, or jamming as it extends or retracts.

I the only repair I ever had to do was replace the mast which is not expensive

Exactly. I had to replace mine, $15 on eBay, 20 minutes to replace, never had a single problem with it.
And although telescopic antenna's are "dated" looking, for some reason, the brand new Lexus SC STILL has that type on it, which really surprised me.

@blitz- I didn't really think about it that way, but that makes a ton of sense. I'm all for keeping it classy. Maybe I'll just leave well enough alone.
