Q45, Cima, F50...... All of the above. Building at a snails pace
I figured it was about time that I finally started my build thread. A little over a year ago I picked up a 2005 Infiniti Q45. I hate words but I love pictures. Here is how the story begins.........
Took a one way flight from San Jose to Ontario to pick up this gem from the original owner.
As the title states I enjoy building at a snails pace so updates will come slow and steady.

@Dranom - Yes, you are correct. It was just shy of 53,000 miles. The seller was asking $17k and I talked him down to $16k. Not a great deal but I thought it was a fair price for the condition and options that it has.
@4DGS - Beryllium is berry yum!
@33flavors - Agreed about the firebrick interior. It's definitely hot fire. But, I would rather have the beryllium then black exterior.

Nice car, looking forward to the build. I guarantee my F50 build will be even slower than your pace. haha
I saw a brown 2006 that had a burnt orange interior on one of those salvage sites a while back. That was my favorite color combo, not sure if it was OEM though.

It seems appropriate to post the first set of aftermarket rims that I put on the Q.
Yes, they are the same wheels that are on the orange supra from FnF. Racing Hart M5 in 19 X 8.5 & 9.5. Picked them up for super cheap with some used tires. I plan to relip them in the near future.

I quickly got tired of the sunk in look with the Racing Harts and found a set of GTR rims for dirt cheap. But I didnt have spacers to run the 9.5 so I borrowed a friends 10.5 and ran 2 different colors for a little bit.
Bye bye sunk and hello donk.

I was lucky enough to find someone in So Cal that wanted to do a straight trade for my 9.5 for his 10.5. Now I have 10.5 all around. Im running Falken 452 245/35 on the front and 245/40 in the rear. Honesty 245/40 looks to bubbly so plan on replacing it with a 235/35 and switching it to the front.
Stock height is killing me. Im short and I feel like I need running boards just to get in and out of the car. So, I decided to order air.
- AirRex struts (front must be cut and welded but rear just bolts right up)
- AccuAir eLevel with rocker and iLevel
- 3/8th lines
- 1 AZ OB2
And getting her all shiny and clean after finally having matching rims. I will post pics of the parts shortly. Stay tuned!

After all my parts came in my friend Ron spear headed this project and went over to DriftCave to get my fronts cut and welded.
And the final result
I wanted to keep as much of the trunk space as possible and decided I didnt need a spare tire. So Ron mocked up the trunk like this.
Everything will be tucked away in the spare well and the 5 gal AccuAir tank will be placed up against the back wall. Hopefully I will still have enough room for all the necessities that this daily will need to haul around.

It rides well with the AirRex struts. It will ride bouncy only if the bags are fully inflated and/or I turn the dampening to the highest setting (thats to be expected). The best part about the AirRex struts is the static and dampening adjustability. So, the driver can really fine tune the suspension to their driving style. I don't drive to hard (taking hard corners) but I do drive spiritedly and am happy with my choice to run AirRex air struts.

That is used to mount to the lower sway bar.

Its nothing special. Everything is in the spare tire and the air tank is pushed up against the back wall of the trunk.
I did install a gauge to monitor tank pressure and also quick connects to utilize the air in the tank. I would say that the quick connect is the best mod/investment so far. Tires are always at correct psi and I also use it to fill tank in case of emergency.

I do have a public service announcement for all that is or plans on going air.
So, my compressor is mounted below my tank. I also dont have a water trap between the compressor and the tank. I'm sure you can guess what happened. Well, water/moister got into the compressor and now prevents the compressor from building pressure to fill my tank. Thank goodness I have the quick connects and can fill my tank from there. I promote over rigging and fail safes but I made a huge mistake for not putting a water trap between the compressor and the tank.
Also, if the compressor was placed next to or above the tank I'm positive this wouldn't have happened. Lesson learned. I already contacted Air Zenith and they were quick to ship me replacement parts. Hopefully I can get things back up and running. This is my daily and having to use my back up compressor to fill the tank periodically this past week is a huge pain.
Here are some pics to show the ordeal I have to deal with

I havn't experienced any wheel to bag clearance issues yet. The 2 sets of wheels I've ran so far are:
GTR
20X10.5 +25
Falken 452 245/35 on the front and 245/40 in the rear
SSR LM-9
19X9 + 20 Toyo 235/35
19X10.5 +20 Toyo 265/30
(rolled fenders only, no pull)
I also had this same question when I was deciding on what direction to go. Yes, you will have less clearance if you go bag over coil. However, the pros out weigh the cons.
By freeing up the spring bucket arm you have the ability to run 350Z/G35 camber arms. To me that is a huge pro over trying to fab something to gain camber adjustably. Plus I doubt I will run wheels that have so much positive offset that will cause clearance issues.
Build out not in if you know what I mean.

You are most certainly right. This happened after neglecting to drain my tank for almost 3 months. Now I will be sure to drain it more frequently. You live and learn.

Thanks! My buddy who owns the M45 lives in Japan town. I'm currently prepping my car for Spocom next week. Not sure if you have plans to go but it will be there. If not hit me up and we can meet around Japan town. I spend a lot of time in that area.

unique factory paint
Title says "snail pace". Well I wet-sanded my car about 7 months ago and barely got it painted last weekend. I say mine is more like crogenically frozen within those time frame. John mentioned you concerning about F50 meet this summer....05-06 front bumper is a beauty btw.

Took a one way flight from San Jose to Ontario to pick up this gem from the original owner.

As the title states I enjoy building at a snails pace so updates will come slow and steady.

I've seen the pics of your car that John posted. Awesome to see more Q's with color. John and I have been kicking ideas around for a all F50 meet. Let us know if you have any suggestions.
Ok so.....I replaced the parts for the AZ compressor but unfortunately it still couldn't build pressure because of the gouges in the cylinder wall. I was cutting it to close to Spocom so decided to just buy a dual Viair 444c pack to replace the AZ. Made some changes to the trunk while I was at it.
Raised the tank up with some metal spacers I found at Lowes
Here is the new layout for now. Still nothing special. Compressor is moved up next to the tank and all the electronics have been placed on the top side of the board for easy access. Only running 1 compressor for now until I figure out where I want to put the other one.

Finally decided to get a custom exhaust. Paid a visit to my muffler guy Andy at Classic Muffler in San Jose and this is how it turned out.
Cut everything after the secondary cats. I really wanted to cut those out but he convinced me that I needed them for Cali smog. Maybe I will put in a flange in the future so I can remove them and bolt them on during smog time.
Went with 2 Magnaflow mufflers. Inlets are 2.5 instead of 2.25 because he didnt have 2.25 in stock.
X pipe getting welded in.
Coming together with 2.25 piping.
Couldnt make a decision about tips so kept my stock ones.
Still need to polish them up and make them shinny.
I will update this with some sounds clips when I get a chance. Its nice and throaty during acceleration but quite when idling. I'm very happy with the sound. I also had him cut out the useless exhaust valve too.

Made a trip to visit John's shop Autosport in Stockton. He is a very helpful and humble guy. I highly recommend his shop if you're in the area. Brought it to John to have my Battle Version toe and camber arms installed as well as my T-Demand oni camber plates.

Getting the alignment done with his sick in ground rack. This is my full slam not ride height. Im not about that life, lol. Ride height is set at -6 camber front and back. But at full slam its closer to -6 front and -7 in back.

I really need to rebuild these wheels now. The sunk look just isnt me but unfortunately the money has run dry. Looks like I will be buying some spacers in the meantime.
And the customary shot in front of John's shop.

Thanks! Yes, I'm on stock front end links. Need to save up and get something aftermarket. Is there any big benefit by shortening them?

I saw your blue F50 but sorry I didn't get a chance to talk to you. John and I are planning a Bay Area Q45/F50 mini meet. Let me know if you have any suggestions on a location.

shorter end links will put the sway bar back to a functional position, resulting in better ride quality.

Ah man your car is such a beautiful machine, if I didn't wanna spend too much I I would buy it over 02-04 model. If you want wheels that poke you can buy mine, I have another set in mind. I'll give you reasonable price..

Been ages since I've updated this. Nothing has changed other then going back to GTRs. Also, picked upped front and rear 09 GTR lips for cheap. Hopefully I can figure out how to make it work so it flows smoothly. We will see how it goes. Suggestions/comments are appreciated. Trying to keep focused….I stay OEM+

Hey Sonny. Not much has changed. Only thing I upgraded was a baby BBK set up. Installed the Akebono front calipers. Rear is still stock but replaced the rotors and pads with stoptechs. Sorry to hear you don't have the blue Q anymore but excited for your adventure in finding an 05-06. Good luck!
