Buyer purchases wheels without research...Seller at fault? Required to pay shipping?
Let's take a hypothetical situation (not so hypothetical for me)....
You are the seller of a nice set of wheels. You are thoroughly descriptive in your ad...include wheel sizes, offsets, and even the hub disk for a COMPLETE fitment picture.
Buyer purchases your wheels via paypal and you ship them out very quickly.
The buyer asks you to ship the wheels expedited as well for an additional $40 out of your pocket, but is completely voluntary on the buyers end and is agreed to and promised to pay. I much would have rather shipped the most cost effective way to save on costs (at no additional cost to the buyer), but I paid an additional $40 for shipping out of my pocket.
Buyer is told that fender work will be needed upfront. Hell, any nice, flush fitting wheel pretty much REQUIRES a fender shave on our Lexus!
Wheels arrive and the buyer is not happy with fitment. Doesn't want to do any fender work, so files a claim with paypal for receiving items "Not as Described" SERIOUSLY???
Paypal goes in his favor, and not only do they lock my account, but they refund him the TOTAL purchase price INCLUDING SHIPPING.
So now you just paid this NOOB to go try on your $3600 wheels for 3 weeks. YOU PAID FOR THE SHIPPING.
What do you do?
PS, I've already filed Appeals with Paypal to get partial payment back. Seller won't return messages for days.

I'd send paypal the proof you described to him that fender work will be required and his acknowledgement of it being required. I would then also show proof if his response to not do fender work after receiving them. To be honest sounds like your out the money, had the same thing happen to me and a few other people I know. I'm starting to think that it's a new loop hole scam. Basically like you the guy made 120 off me since the shipping was refunded to him after I paid for it.

i'd beat the fuck out of him is what i'd do. morons like this is what's killing the car scene, cheap fuckers trying to scam people.
real talk, there's not much you can do i think but i wouldn't think paypal wouldn't refund him until he shipped the items back to you.

I have the wheels back already, just missing my actual shipping costs I paid to have them sent out there.
Besides the weeks of lost time and effort of course

I've seen people get rip'd off like this.
This is why I stick to local or a close states I can drive and drop them off. ( more of an excuse to get out of vegas haha)
Also when you're selling something used you should put on your ad, as is no warranty.
Its not your fault the wheels didnt fit. He should of re-sold them and moved on.
Plus from what I saw on your build thread you only had to do a roll, so I don't know why the buyer was cry'n about the fender work??
Best of luck.

stick to the rules, cover your ass, and expect bs. when paypal/ebay makes a decision there really isn't shit you can do so protect yourself up front. I don't see how they went with him but it's not the first time i've heard of them siding with the buyer, seemingly wrongly. fact is it behooves them to protect buyers more than sellers.

I agree with mike. My friend is going through a similar experience right now. Basically pp fucked up and awarded the buyer the refund, he has a recording of their rep saying it was pp fault but there's nothing ppl will do about it. Just have to tell us who the buyer is and chalk it up as a loss unfortunately.

I'm also curious who the buyer is, people need to take responsibility for their own fuck ups. Seems to be the trend these days to pass the buck, sad but true.

my personal favorite is when my customers tell me "what happened to customer courtesy/the american way/the customer is always right?" fuck ups like these people happen. I don't mind absorbing the cost if it's legitimately my fault, or to resolve the situation amicably. But when people stated abusing hospitality is when retailers start drawing the line. I get customers who DEMAND refunds and return shipping and start cursing at me. that's when i say, sorry read our return policy which is clearly on every item. fuck those people.
on a side note, i also don't understand when people spend large sums of money and don't know what they're getting into. if i was going to spend that much money, i wouldn't be asking questions after the fact.

Man I know what you mean. Sometimes working retail is the worst. I hate that "what happened to the customer is always right?" Not in this store not with that attitude and not with the part that you broke

I am not sure if he is on VSC...I just needed to vent more and extended my anger.
His screen name on ClubLexus is cchung0588. His name is Christopher Chung and somehow he can afford an ISF but can't afford common sense to research what fits on his F*n car before he drops almost $4k.

Did you report him on cl? I'd make a thread and warn everyone, post all correspondence and hope no one else goes through the same trouble that you've had to go through.

Yes, that should be him. He didn't research what would fit his hub/brakes and I even showed him a pic or my specific wheels on an IS (previous owner of my wheels had them mounted on a similar car of his).

Worst part about everything is that he owes me $40 and never came through. He probably knew he was going to return the wheels before they even got there.
And a super busta move saying he would include a check for the shipping and obviously not. Flake shit
And yes, I did put something in that buyer/seller thing but I did not make a thread specific of him there. I didnt notice a forum for that...but I didn't look that far

So I wanted to update you guys on this situation...
I left my Paypal account negative for around two weeks since I was pissed at the situation, paypal themselves, etc.
I got a call last night from a Paypal rep...don't think he was a legitimate collector since he actually listened to what I had to say, and had the power to make decisions on his own. Collector wouldn't give a damn, and would only keep asking when they are getting their money, etc.
I negotiated a payment/return of my account to zero'd status, minus the shipping costs we talked about before and the original paypal fee. So I saved about $350, and now I have my paypal account back in good terms.
So if paypal is screwing you royally...just don't pay them back LOL. Leave it negative, and perhaps you may get lucky like I did.
Decent ending to my shitty situation I was in...could have ended a lot worse. Happy new year!

glad to hear the outcome.. btw.. did you have a bank account or card linked to your paypal account? cause normally, don't they usually just take the money from your account?

Yes, I have my bank account connected, and I presumed they could just suck the money right out too. But when I negotiated the refund/return with this guy, I told him just to charge my bank account....he could not.
There is probably something in their fine print that keeps them from taking the money directly out...maybe they had too many arguments with users about returns/refunds bouncing their bank accounts and getting even more fees...not sure.
All I know is that they had to charge my card (already on file) with my permission. It just so happened to be my debit card linked to the same account anyways.

LOL you know what I mean though....if it's a separate company trying to collect, they don't really have incentive to work with you, esp after such a short time. They are paid to collect, and that's about it. Schedule payment plans or something maybe, or subtract off interest or something but not the principal owed. I'd think for most debts anyways...you'd know better than me :P
I am on the rocks about reselling my wheels. I do like my wheels and fitment, and I was happy when I sold them and had the extra cash to look for another set, but now I am not sure if it's worth the hastle anymore. I dunno.

that's kind of odd on behalf of paypal.
if you have proof like email chain messages, ebay messages, private messages that clearly shows that you have informed him that it might stick out and might have to modify his car to make fit, then you should be in the clear.

Wow, best outcome for a shitty situation, congrats! I like your wheels too, but don't let some d-bag change your mind for you, if you want new wheels sell them and get a new set :)
