been there, done that!
you can left the motor:
- modify the front cross member (engine goes up up to 30mm).
- put spacers (washers) under the engine mounts (I saw Japanese putting about 10mm fat washers...you can put 2x5 mm).
if you want some pictures and explanation on how to modify the front cross member, hit me a PM!

raising a car is loser´s option!
anyway..here is some info about raising the engine for the guys who drive super low.
The easy way is to put some spacers/washers under the engine mounts. I had put 2x4 mm washers, raised the engine 8mm. I dont know if its ok to put more, but I wouldnt suggest go more that 10mm.
What is does is it raises the engine/oil pan X mm, raised the catalizators X mm and the exhaust pipes.
Here are some pictures from minkara about the spaces.

The harder way is to modify the front cross member. The modifying is basically cutting some metal off, making the cross member shorter, so that it would sit higher.
Here are some pictures of my modification:
I have cut about 20 mm. I didnt go to hard on that, but I´ve seen japanese cutting even more, gaining ~30 mm clearance.

What is does is it raises the engine X mm, raises the cats and exhaust pipes. Compared to the spacers, it also raises the steering rack, and you will have less/no bump steer. It should also raise the tranny pan a lil bit.
NB! raising the engine, you need to be careful with the cooling pipes in the engine bay, a heater valve, a fan. I had to cut some plastic to let the fan spin. But I have a European LS400, so in US models you can face some other problems.
